Hey guys,

When you get your scouting reports how do you use them.

If it says, for example, the opposing coach likes to match lines and dumps the puck alot.......... how can you alter your tactics to exploit that?

I'm not the most gifted tactically and don't want to waste this info......

Depends on what kind of team you want to run. Do you want to be defensive-minded and prevent every opposing attempt? Then you need to use those reports. Do you want to be more offensive and create troubles no matter who the opponent isand how they play? Then those reports are mostly here to say "hey, we've got a game tonight!"

I'm not highly skilled tactically speaking either (ended fired in the Coyotes challenge ) so i personnally go full offense right now and see how it ends... I win more Oh, sometimes i allow 4 or 5 goals, but i score 6 or 7 times in those games, so it doesn't matter...

Ok, so lets say I want to be the defensive kind of coach you mentioned and need the coaches report.............. how do I use it to my advantage?

Ie - against a smooth passing, free flowing team or a dump n' chase physical team?

well for starters you want to set up your defensive tactics. I don't know about the others but for defensive strats I use a modified trap. The scouting report then gives you players to target. You set your best checkers to target those players. I use that part somewhat but then also will at the individual ones to see who all are the ones I should target. In general though I use an offensive, the defensive one is for when I need a shakeup.

Like I said I don't use it much simply because I prefer my offensive strategies much more, but it is very similar to the trap used by quite a few NHL teams. Its a mid zone trap an example of this would be what Minnesota uses. I will do some different things mainly because I tend to have to have a lot of offensive players which is why I tend to go towards the offensive strats. The trap is mainly used to shake things up when nothings working.
