Pros and Cons of starting with current rosters

I'd love to start current but doesn't the game start in like 2006 by default without a way to change it? How do you guys adjust to that? It seems like it would bother me!

Doesn't bother me one bit. In EHM the hockey world will change so much you will not be able to recognize your own team in five years time anyway. New players will be generated and old superstars will go to teams you'd never dream of seeing them play for in the real world.
You just have to accept the fact that EHM is not real, it's a game. Updated rosters are just a way to keep the game fresh for those of us who've played the default rosters a gazillion times. If you think it'll bother you, use the default (or the fixed database atleast) and start your scrambling with rosters for the correct year.
That's how I see it, atleast.

I'm with Tasku on this one. I can't tell you how many times I've seen players like Joe Sakic leave their team as a UFA and sign elsewhere. Its more about getting a fresh look at them than anything.

In my opinion...
Pros:
- Players are on their current real-life teams, with correct contracts.
Cons:
- Situation won't match the un-changeable start-date.
- Birth dates altered for correct age.
- "Current-ness" of rosters will be obsolete after a few months of play.

I agree with this. I don't actually use the
very latest current rosters for this very reason. I understand there's loads of people who prefer correct age and correct draft to correct birth date, but I just can't get over the fact that my players would have wrong birth dates, so I pass on the 08-09 update.
Not sure if there's a point in making an update without the edited birthdates though... two years is a big difference, teams may be unbalanced and players under developed for their "up-to-date roles" in their new teams in many cases.
I'm sticking with TBL RU 1.5

but what about the new players added to the roster based on the recent drafts? some players are missing from the original rosters and are only available in the new rosters!!

I second what Tasku said, as well. He hit the nail on the head.
Why bother for up-to-the-minute rosters when they are totally re-done by the game within two years of playing time?
