EHM Won't go into Windowed Mode

Greetings;
I've been trying to get EHM to run on my laptop the way I like (windowed). I have a Toshiba Satellite with an ATI Radeon X1200 video set. The max resolution is 1280x800. When I try to put EHM into windowed mode it says that the screen resolution must be greater than 1024x768.

Any ideas?

Is you regular set to the maximum (1280x800) allowed on your computer? Just because that it the max, doesn't mean it's already set to that resolution.

Yes the screen resolution is set to 1280X800. Which is why I can't figure out why it gives me the error that it does and prevents from playing in windowed mode.

I wonder if it has to do with the dimensions? The height is so close to the requirement but the width is a decent amount more. I wonder if it just can't translate to work with those?
Oh, you know what? I just did a search and found this...

This thread seems to have a trick where you can copy "-small_screen -windowed" (only what's inside the quote marks) to the end of your target line in the shortcut for the game. Read the full thread for more info. Also try a search on "windowed" and make sure to have it search both the title and the message text.

The difficulty is that when you run the game in windowed mode, it needs extra width and (mainly) height for the window to be drawn around the EHM screen. Thus the total size is a bit more than 1024x768. Perhaps 800px isn't quite enough space to draw the window around the screen.
Have you tried running Windows with the Taskbar set to
"auto hide"? That might give you a little extra size.
By the way, this was an issue with EHM 2005, too:

The solution the bruins posted is what I had done, and then I just moved the taskbar to the side of the window.

Sweet!!!! Works great now. Sorry that I missed that previous post.

Either merge or delete this one then. Thanks Bruins

I'm having the same issue with EHM not wanting to go into windowed mode. I tried the target trick above but it's giving me an error. This is what I wrote into the Target box of the shortcut properties.
...ehm2007.exe"-small_screen -windowed
It says this is not valid. I'm on Windows 7. Any help?

Is that extra " in there a typo?
Try removing that...so your path would be:
Code: Select all
ehm2007.exe-small_screen - windowed

hmm still not working.
This is what I have in the target box:
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Sports Interactive\NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007\ehm2007.exe"
The quotation marks are in the target box.
So how would I type this properly? I would really appreciate any help.

This works for me:
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007\ehm2007.exe" -windowed

Nope. Still no luck.
I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and have a max resolution of 1366x768, that's as high as I can go. There's gotta be a way to do this.

I'm wondering if it's the resolution that's causing your problem? I can't remember the exact numbers but I want to say that it requires the height to be at least 800 pixels.

That could very well be it and if so it's very disappointing. But it doesn't explain why the target info isn't accepted.

That's weird... it might just be a bug in Windows 7. I had no problems with XP, Vista and Snow Leopard.
So it might just be Windows itself.

I don't know about the target info. Has anyone else had success using that with Win 7? Maybe something has got to be done a little differently there?

Well I tried a few things, but I don't think it's going to work. Unfortunate. If someone figures it out let me know, but I think my resolution settings are a non-starter.
Thanks for trying to help guys.

Was looking around google. Can't speak for EHM but Football Manager uses the -small_screen -windowed too and supposedly it will force windowed mode regardless of resolution. When I try this and load EHM I get this error:
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:...Interactive\NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007\ehm2007.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information"

I'm getting the same result from all of the above suggestions that empach is having. I'm running on the same resolution as him with my Acer Aspire 1410, and it doesn't get any bigger. I also have Windows 7. Did anyone find a solution to this issue?

I've had the same issue with Win 7.
I have used the "short cut" before with previous versions of Windows but it wont work for Win 7. If anyone finds a solution - please do post it. I will continue to look and post any progress.

I've been wanting to get a laptop but I'm reluctant to do it since it sounds like I won't be able to run EHM. I keep hearing about issues with EHM running on Win 7 and then there's the problem with most new laptops running at a resolution that won't work for EHM. Ugh!

It's only for my laptop though. I host the DMHNL EHM online league with Win7 and it works fine in windowed mode.

And it works fine in windowed mode in Vista, if you add this in the target field in properties:
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007\ehm2007.exe" -windowed

For me adding "-windowed" to the shortcut does not work. I have a laptop with Vista. But I'm used to playing it full screen. On my desk puter with XP I manage to get it on Windowed mode.

How new is your laptop? I didn't think the game would run on most of the newer laptops because of the aspect ratio. All of the new ones seem to be widescreen and the game doesn't fit that way.
