Runtime Error has stolen EHM!

And I'll get him for it if it's the last thing I do.

Ok so this most likely in the wrong spot, and I apologize for it but I couldn't find the right one and the SIgames forum keeps giving me a 404 not found message and I'd really like to play EHM because I enjoy it and can't and am panicking and creating run on sentences. See?

Ok here's the dilly yo:

4 days ago it worked fine. Now when I double click it it says:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: [where and what the program is]

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

</end sadness>

Ok so I searched the internets and found A) That someone in Russia has had the same problem. B) Google translator translates everything but the parts I really want to know. C) Someone who speaks English has had the same problem but no answer emerged on his post. D) That this error comes up for more apps than EHM.

If anyone can help me with this it'd be amazing.

Someone will prob want to know my sys stuff so here it is:

I'm using Win XP, version 2002, Service Pack 2.
Cekerib(R) D CPU 3.20GHz
1GB of RAM

I dunno what's needed so I can give more info if yous wants.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled EHM and it made no difference.

I've removed all my java from the add/remove thingy. No dif.

And I removed my flash player. Nothing.

I bet dollars to donuts if I wipe my hard drive clean and then start again it'll work... but I'm terrified of losing the elicense as I'm using my second one...

Sorry for posting in the wrong section and making this post enormously long. I look forward to your TLDRs.

I have disabled smiles on this post as there is no reason to smile any longer.

Ok so I've totally hotfixed my comp and it still does the same thing.

Did you mean a particular hotfix or just all the ones windows was offering. If you meant a particular one then I might have missed it. Where would I find such a thing should it exist?

If not any further suggestions will be greeted with a warm welcome.

Hey Noah, welcome to TBL

Prior to the error occurring, did you install anything new on your system? Have you altered the EHM.exe file in any way?

Thanks!

Well... the only thing I'm aware of installing is an upgrade in Flash and Java. And I removed both of those during my trouble shooting.

Get rid of XP... It's evil.
Seriously XP sucks.
Updating your system is going to be your best bet, try service pack 3 maybe

Just updated to SP3 myself. No change whatsoever. I had the problem after a virus came in and completely destroyed a good chunk of my computer. I was able to salvage a lot of it using ComboFix, but I haven't been able to fix this particular error, even after putting my computer through regcure and ccleaner.

Strangely enough, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It worked perfectly the first time I played it, not showing an error message. Then I updated to v3.0.4 and it gave me the same error.

I posted a question like this in another part of the forum, but I dont know what happend to that one so I hope its ok if
I ask the same here? I could realy need some help.

I have my lap top connected to my 42" Plasma tv and it works great, but when I try to start EHM I get this error message
about runtime, C++? Is it not possible to run ehm like this, with the lap top connected to a plasma tv. It works with other games.

For the sake of forum cleanliness, your last post was moved to an appropriate existing thread regarding EHM on laptops.

http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 154#104154

But judging by this new post, it sounds like your problem is more appropriate for this thread, which unfortunately appears to be unresolved.

Could you possibly post the exact error you're getting?

HI

I solved my problem with EHM on my tv. I got this error:

Runtime Error!

Program: C\Program Files (x86)\EHM\ehm2007.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
unussual way.
Please contact the application“s support team for more infomation

So, I tried this one last thing, removed the HDMI- cable from the lap top and then
I then started EHM, when I had loaded my game I connected the HDMI- cable to the lap top and
I could play the game on my tv.

Hmm this is very strange. How could the addition of an HDMI connection cause a runtime error? I wonder if the graphics software (e.g. ATI's Catalyst Control Panel, etc) is somehow conflicting with EHM? Maybe a similar application conflict was the source of Noah's runtime error (the original post of this thread)??? :-k

Have you tried changing your monitor resolution higher? I had the same problem after I had to temporarily change my monitor to a Samsung LCD TV. Found out that the windowed mode doesn't work when the monitor resolution is set to 1360x768, so I switched it to full screen and it worked again.

I realize this is a fairly decent bump, but I just wanted to say that I came looking for this after the error occured, and I too, had a VGA cable plugged into my TV. After removing the cable, the game opened up perfectly.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future as well.

Did you move the program or change any of the directories? You can't do that of the game won't know from where to load the data.

Do you have EHM set to run in windowed mode, or full screen? It looks like you have a 1280x768 resolution, which means you have to run the game in full screen.

I think you might have it set to windowed, and it's crashing because it can't run a window on your resolution.

I would try updating my graphic card driver and try "smartclose" program before running EHM to see if another program or service is interfering.

Also a virus can give runtime error and a memory problem can give runtime error too.

Good luck

I would just like to add that I was having this problem, tried all sorts of Adam Oates to fix it to no avail.

Turns out for some reason when I re-installed the program it kept the windowed mode option within the game. (must be in the registry)

I did the DisplayDownScaling trick, turned full screen mode back on, turned DisplayDownScale off again, and now it loads fine.

So it seems this problem is a symptom of having windowed mode enabled with an unsupported screen resolution. God I hate 1366x786.

P.S. I was reading other forums where people said this is because the CPU is too slow, don't listen to them, they are idiots. It's all about the res.

Hey guys,

recently I got the urge to go retro on my ehm 2005, since I got it on my HD ever since I first install it, I just started and went on playing. Anyway, after some time I decided to switch to full screen just for lulz but it crashed and I can't get it to run since. It says "unable to load fonts". I'm on win7 1900x1080. I tried switching resolutions, adding -small window - windowed to no avail. Anybody run into that sort of thing?

Nevermind. I just copied the fonts folder of ehm07 to ehm05 and it seems to work and looks better too :).

Come to think of it, anybody knows form where can I change the colours of say attributes ingame?

I found a topic on that..so nevermind that as well. No more edits I promise :)
cheers
