So I have run into a problem in my Rangers game, I can't sign or re-sign scouts, they all want wages above $250k a year, a sum that seems to be a hard coded cap for scout salaries, is there anything I can do to try and offer them what they want?

I've already tried making up for the difference with sign on bonuses but that doesn't work.

Let them go and re-sign them in the off season. Their demands usually go down once they're not under contract to you. Or find someone else!

Yup. TheBigM is right. That's pretty much the only options I've seen. It happens with players too. Lots of times you can't sign them no matter what you offer but then once they've been let go in the off season they'll re-sign for less than you were offering them before.

Sometimes you are allowed to give scouts more then 250K p/a.
If the scout is born in the city of the franchise it can happen.
I always try to find good scouts from the near area and could offer wages up to 290K a couple times.

In general if a scout is asking too much i offer him a one year contract with 250K and maximum of bonus (about 60K)
If he refuses, well, have to let him go and try to sign him next season.

I take whatever the staff is requesting and extend the term to 10 years.

They always sign.

Already tried that, they still want 275k p/y.

Is there a reason that not all unsigned staff members that are in the database don't show up as staff members when you start a new game?

I'm starting a new game with every league set to enhanced though sometimes some guys will show up and the next they won't, it's a total rubbish shoot.

Any help will be appreciated.

can you give a specific example of a staff member that shows up sometimes and does not others. It could also be staff that is generated from player retirement pool. Are you sure these are REAL personnel in the real world? if so, provide an example, and maybe we can find whatever the issue is.

Sometimes Bobby Orr or Billy Smith or Terry O'Reilly etc show up, sometimes they don't.

Marc Crawford, Paul Coffey, Peter Laviolette always show up.

John Tortorella never shows up.

They are all real staff members who are in the database as staff members who are unrestricted in terms of a team and also rights.

Are you putting in search parameters or are you just searching the name?

To be honest, never noticed this issue in my games, so not 100% sure and trying to figure it out.

If it is name search, you are filtering for staff away from players. The game defaults to player.

If staff search, are you putting in any kind of filter?

I'm looking both by:

Staff Search and then just looking at those who have no team. Sometimes there are 196 pages of staffers, usually 198 pages but sometimes 199.

and by:

Searching for the staff by typing their name in and making sure I'm searching for staff and not players with no filters.

Do staffers pop up after you begin a game or is the 198 pages of staffers the ones that you're stuck with for your entire game other than regens?

I've tried this about a dozen times or so. Never seen John Tortorella, only seen Bobby Orr and even Tretiak once, always see Marc Crawford and Ken Slater.

Btw, I'm using Lidas' latest database.

Weird, Torts has been a major signing in every one of my games in Lidas (and I have played about 9. I have signed him 3 times myself. SAme for Tretiak. never pay attention to Orr.

I found the problem. For some reason my preferences were not set to "full."
