Signing players in the junior major

I am trying out a team in the QMJHL and am finding it rather hard to sign players. In between the trading deadlines, it seems that you can only sign free agents for the post-season (not immediately) and any player not from your region is not available either. So essentially there is no way to bring in new players except by signing from your roster until the next trading period. Is that right? Are free agents always only ever signable for July 1st?

You can sign free agents from the QMJHL protected regions during the season. I did an experiment with my Saint JOhn team and managed to sign a player in February. However, there seems to be some kind of deadline as to signing your own prospects. I know that IRL the OHL has a rule regarding the amount of players that you can sign from the latest draft. I don't know if it's the same in the QMJHL or if there is a latest date of signings

Yea you can sign them, but all the contracts start next July 1st.

Your expected to get all your players from the draft in major juniors. Players playing cannot move from their current team once the season starts.

Thanks. I guess I should have known that before I started! Oh well.

I've noticed something strange, players switching from QMJHL to WHL. :D
That's not supposed to happen is it? :P

If they are released by their team they can choose whichever team they want in all CHL
