My Personal Challenge

Decided to do my own challenge for myself similar to the ones TBL does. This is how mine is set up:

Lidas DB1.3

Taking control of the Tampa Bay Lightning because they are a Lecav/St. Louis combo team with mediocre defense, goaltending, and secondary scoring. They also have a weak prospect pool.

My Goal: Over the period of 10 years lead the Lightning to 4 Stanley Cups, refill the prospect pool, and create a dominant team.

Rules

Waivers: Per season may claim 2 players with contracts less than 1,750,000 or one player with contract above 1,750,000.

Trades: Per season may make 2 trades involving secondary (or worse) players (Pettinger, Halpern, Szechura) and 1 trade involving a star player (Lecavlier, St.Louis). One of these trades can only be used on the trade deadline. Trades may not be used at all.

Free Agency: May sign 1 Superb/Star player per year as a free agent OR 2 Very Good (and below) per year.

Draft Picks: Must have at least 4 draft picks per year. Therefore, no more than 3 draft picks used in trades. Must have a draft pick in the 1st or 2nd round EVERY YEAR.

Draft Day: On draft day I am allowed 1 trade to move up a maximum of 6 spots. Ex. Tampa - 1st RD (12th overall) + 2nd RD) for Ottawa - 1st RD (6th overall)

Tactics: Cannot use Red Playmover Barrage tactic. But may use elements of it.

Staff: Can sign, fire, and rehire any staff I wish.

Cheats: Cannot use injury cheat to pick up someone for a significant deal. Cannot exploit AI in trades. May not save before game and restart if outcome is not preferred.

Tell me what you think about these rules and if I missed anything big. Thanks!

I think 4 Stanley Cups is going to be a bit much with what I've seen from this team so far.

First year I just finished I squeaked into the playoffs (last game of the season) in 8th place. I played the Devils, went up 3-1 in the series and then lost 3 straight. Ouch.

My two trades throughout the year were to pick up Olaf Kolzig to take the majority of the goaltending icetime and Jay Pandolfo to round out my shut down line. Stamkos was sent back to juniors, Ramo to the AHL, and so on.

I finished with the 16th overall pick in the draft and managed to land Svensson-Paajarvi which I was pretty happy with. Also got a couple other bargain picks and overall drafted happy.

Went into free agency 13 million under cap expecting to land a star defenseman and a depth player. Except due to financial difficulties for the organization they will only free up 1,690,000 for a contract for a key player. Even though I have tons of cap room.

Ouch.
