Trading Players with No Trade Clauses

I just recently started a "career" or whatever you'd call a new game in EHM with the Colorado Avalanche. I'm a big believer in "trimming" the fat and constantly look for ways to free up as much cap space as possible so I can be very versatile come free agent time.

Anways, Ryan Smyth is currently signed to something like 4 year 6.5 million dollar contract. He's not that great, something like a .75ppg player, which is to low to make all that money for a forward. In my Blues game I have players like Perron and Higgings producing ~70-80 points from ~$2 mil. I tried to trade him but noticed he's got a no trade clause.

Is there anyway I can make him waive it or request a trade? I've tried criticizing him and it made him unhappy but I still can't trade him.

fine him. If you do it enough he'll let you trade him.

Be careful though. Treating a well thought of player like that can have a negative effect on other players on the team. It can also have a negative impact on future free agent signings.

If you need cap space you could place him on waivers and then send down to the Affiliate if nobody puts a claim on him. ;)

Yeah I'll probably just place him on waivers at the end of the season if I want the cap room. He's Ryan Smyth, so I'm sure somebody would claim him.

Thanks for all the replies. :-D

What normally works for me is to set their player status to "Not Needed" and put him up as available for trade. I've traded 3 or 4 guys with no-trade clauses and that's always seemed to work for me. That seems to make them angry enough at you to want to leave the team.

I just discipline them and fine them for no reason and stop playing them. That usually upsets them and they're usually happy to go anywhere after that.
