What Teams would fit into a european locked proffesional hockey league á lá NHL?

My idea:

Scandinavian Division

Färjestad /SWE
Djurgården /SWE
MoDo /SWE
Västra Frölunda /SWE
MIF Redhawks /SWE
Lillehammar /NOR
Espoo Blues /FIN
Turku /FIN
Helsinki /FIN

Eastern Division

Sparta Prag /CZE
Omsk /RUS
Moscow D /RUS
some other czech, russian, slovakian and perhaps baltic teams

Central Division

Berlin Capitals /GER
Kölner Haie /GER
München Barons /GER
some other swiss, austrian and perhaps benelux teams

Western Division

Manchester Phoenix /UK
some other british, french, swiss and perhaps a spanish team?

This is of course a bit unrealistic since europeans dont support a pro organisation like the northamericans do (Wimbledon FC for instance), also there is a serious cashflow difference between the NHL and european teams in general. But what if? :D

I can only say there's a few good Finnish teams missing there, like HPK and maybe Tappara too (Hämeenlinna and Tampere T in the game), don't have a clue of other countries teams :P ...

Are they playing European Hockey League anymore? They used to have that, as a sort of tournament, where all the top rated teams in some countries took part...

Those games were exciting to watch... don't think they're playing them anymore... :?

I think there is some sort European tournament but it's not in EHM :x
IIRC, Manchester Storm won it once or atleast got pretty far.

There is an european tornament this year Panthers are the only British team in it this year (I think it was because they were the only team eho could afford the trips and the fees)

I haven't seen a Phoenix game yet since I spend most of my life at uni in Norwich, BUT to me it feels different. It doesn't seem the same as having Storm. It feels like a totally different team who are from a totally different place.
I miss Frankie between the pipes and Pierre Allard and Jeff Jablonski.
I support the Phoenix simply because they are Storm's replacement.

Maybe I'll make a Storm mod for EHM 8)

EEhh.
I guess you have changed your mind regardin MODO and MIF and DIF too.

MODO is a pants team whit a pants arena and they are not producing great players as during the 90´s

MIF are on their way to relegation and DIF suffers from financial problems and Stockholm lacks of interest in hockey.

even if it's a "what-if"-topic:
the münchen barons folded in 2002 and since also then the berlin capitals are just minor-league-hockey ;)
currently 3rd division.

Hmh, there should be more finnish teams than just 3, like 2 teams from helsinki, Oulun Kärät ofcourse, since they are one of the best teams at the moment etc.

And no, EHL does not excist anymore. They are, however, playing this sort of European Champions Cup, with total of 6 teams attending, the current champions of Finland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Atleast here, the games will be broadcasted by MTV3, though only few of them are live.

I think the point is that this has been suggested again as a proposal for real. I doubt it will happen, but would be great if it did.

The Idea with East and West, Scandinavian is very good !

But it would only works with the "big" Teams in Europe with big Arena and many attendance.

Top Ten in Europe:

http://www.hockeyarenas.net/index.php3? ... aison=2005

Like in Football Champions Lague they should have place for shure.

And Stadium 7000 Sice or bigger ! (Its same in Football, you must have at least 8000 Seats)

I remember when Bern was plaining againt Jokerit, over 13`000 Fans where there. One week later against Jaca from Spain only 800...

The fans want to see "famous" Teams like Djurgarden, Köln, Jokerit, Sparta Prag etc. from Top Nations and not "exots"

My EHL:

Top 5 Nations in Europe have 2 Places in the Group. All other must play qualification for free Place Nr 5 and 6.
Stadium Size must be 7000 or bigger

Skandinavia: 2 x Sweden 2 x Finns 1x must play qulification from Norway Latvia or Danmark for 5 Place

1 Göteborg
2 Färjestad
3 Jokerit
4 IFK Helsinki
5 Team from Norway, Latvia etc.
6 Team from Sweden or Finnland play Qualification for place 6

East Europe:

1 Dynamo Moscow
2 Lok. Jaroslavl
3 Pardubice
4 Sparta Praha
5 Slovan Bratislava
6 Teams from Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine etc play Qulification for this Place

West Euope

1 SC Bern
2 ZSC Lions
3 Kölner Haie
4 Hamburg Freezers
5 Team from UK, France etc
6 Team from Austria, Italy etc.

The First 2 from each group are qualificated for the next Round.

The only problem with an international league is the cost of travel. Most hockey clubs don't have that much money and wouldn't be able to afford to travel often.

I think if there a 3 Regional Groups like Skandinavian, East and West Europe, the coast will be low because the way will be not so far. One game you have in your own county and the rest in a nighbour land.
