How it works

For someone new to the game, how do the new rosters work in-game? I mean the rosters will be updated to the current year 2009, but in the game you will start from 2007. So how does it work in terms of both retired players, and also the fact that teams will have drafted players from 08 and 09 drafts already on their lists? Or are they excluded?

I'll prob wait until the new rosters are finished before playing it properly.

The drafts for 08 and 09 will most likely be included in the new update.
Meaning that the players drafted will be on their team's prospects list.

The players that has retired IRL will be retired in the game.

Also for the players to be at the same age as in real life the players has been made two years older for the 2008-2009 update and will be three years older for the 2009-2010.

I presume there is no way of just making the start date of the game two years later then?

Kinda strange that they would be 2-3 years older but there would obviously not be any histories added, so it would be like 2-3 lost years.

I presume there is no way to get the files with their ages remaining the same? Or any other way to do it, short of editing every single player in the game.

No, you can't change the start year.

The players are actually not older in the game. It's just that their birthyear has changed. An 18-year-old IRL player is 18 in the game

Yeah I get that they are the same age as now, but like some guys have just broke out with big years so they will have increased attributes probably, but be two to three years older than they were in 2007, but their histories won't show their numbers.

I love the EPL, and have played Football Manager for years, so despite never playing EHM before, I understand how the engine works, cause its very similar. I like the histories of players and keeping track of them throughout the game, so I guess that's what I have the issue with. Plus I guess having them 2-3 years older (current age) but it being 2007 takes a little bit away from the immersion, at least for me it would.

I presume there is no way other (through an editor or something) than the ridiculous method of changing birth dates for every single player, to have them reverted? I'll still use it regardless though, good to see such an old game is still being supported.

If you want the birthdates being reverted just use the original database with out of date rosters, then you're back on the 2006-2007 season.

There might be a mod with the updated rosters and with the correct birthyears, but I've not heard of any.

There is no possible way to change the starting date for the game, and yes, the years of data are lost. The best course of action is to push back all the data and include the last years data as if it happened in 2006, but this causes a tremendous addition of work, so as far as I know, no major roster updaters actually do this.

The only real way to do it would be to do it with a saved game instead of a database. The first year after there was a guy who did it that way. He used hexeditors on some of the things which made the game unstable, though.

Piggybacking on this thread.

I decided to give the PC version a go since the MAC version is done.

How do I get the database to load so I can run the '08-09 season instead of the default?

The readme file says that :
When starting a new game in EHM you will be presented with the option to choose which database to use. Select LidasDB1.2 to use the updated database and click on OK.
But, I never seem to get prompted for picking a db. Am I missing something?

Here is what I'm doing:

1. Select "New Game". Then I get the "select league(s)" screen.
2. I select all and set them to "enhanced"
3. Set my start date to "Russia" on Aug. 2
4. I leave "real players" and "fog of war" checked.
5. Select the Bruins as my team.

What did I miss?

You probably need to update to the latest version of the game. Version 3.0.4 allows you to choose between multiple databases.

Also, check out this thread for info on where to install the new database.

You can change birthyear for all players and staff at once in the editor. 'Tools' and 'change all staff ages'
But that would leave the players with being too good for their age
