Hockey Debate #4

Hey all. I hope this topic gives a few different answers because it is definitely a subjective topic for sure. The question:

Who is the best player never to win the Stanley Cup?

A lot of members of the Hall of Fame and a few others who are on the cusp could fall into this category. Who would your choice be and why?

Pat LaFontaine. Great player, great career, great character. :-)

Boring as I am, I think I have to agree with Selne on Pat LaFontaine and for the same reasons.

Cam Neely. He was the prototypical goal scoring power forward and a member of the 50-50 club. He's a guy who really should have his name on The Cup.

As much as I am a fan of LaFontaine and his great quote about his career:

"I think I'm the only guy to ever get traded twice and not have to change my license plate," because he played for the Islanders, Sabres and Rangers,

I'm going to go with Marcel Dionne. He played 19 seasons, Art Ross winner in 1980, won the Pearson in 1979 and 1980 and his 1771 points rank him 4th all-time. But, in his 19 seasons for Detroit, Los Angeles and the Rangers, not only did he not win a Cup, but he never made it to a Stanley Cup final.

If I had to pick a starting lineup for the same question, it would be:

G- Roger Crozier, with an honorable mention to Vladislav Tretiak
D- Borje Salming
D- Brad Park
F- Marcel Dionne
F- Peter Stastny
F- Gilbert Perreault

My opinion comes behind finnish-glasses, so i have to say Teppo Numminen, and why not Jyrki Lumme.

Never think of those two guys, they both really deserve it but they never got the chance to win it.

I really want to give the name of a Blackhawk or Ranger who never won because they played so many years on team that were pure garbage. However...part of the reason those teams never won was that they dealt their future away.

Got one I think: Steve Larmer. Oh wait...nope he won it in 1994 with ....the New York Rangers. That has got to be one of the weirdest twists of fate in hockey history. Play for the team that had the second longest futility streak, and get dealt to the team with the longest...and then win it. Sheesh
