Extra "Grey" Goalie Issue

I'm coaching Kalamazoo in the ECHL with Lidas 2.1.
I FINALLY have a decent team with all cogs clicking. I got a goalie handed down from San Jose AND from Philly so I'm sitting fat. I finally let the two that I'd signed go. I played three games and now all of a sudden I have that gray POS third goalie that I can't get rid of.
I've saved, closed, reopened only to see a different dork third goalie three different times. I finally gave in and dumped a guy I've been looking for a reason to dump just to see if the roster nudge might work but to no avail.
Any suggestions?
MOD NOTE: I'm renaming this so that it's a bit more descriptive and others might find it later with a search. - B72

The "grey" goalie pops up if you don't have enough goalies available to dress for a game. I'm guessing that one of the goalies that was sent down to you still has to clear waivers and can't play yet. Play a couple games and I bet your "grey" goalie will go away.

I've played four games already with the two goalies I still have on my roster. They've each played a game as well. Is there a chance the parent team hiccupped and reset their waivers or something? Pretty dang frustrating I tell ya.

It's possible. Does it allow you to dress both of the loaned goalies and play them in a game?

It is most likely that there is some sort of regulation in the league you are playing in on numbers of players loaned to you, or an age limit (vet status like AHL), or number of players your team needs to have under contract.
Also...could be that because your team is independent (not sure if you are actually) the game forces the grey goalie on you to fill out your positions even if you have loaners

Okay now more wierdness I hadn't caught before. The extra goalie isn't taking a roster spot afterall...yet he's still there and trying to start a game brings up the "You'd better fix your roster or CPU is gonna do it and you're going to lose that stud you blew the bank on." warning.
I let it go and the CPU made no change, and the squatter was still there after the next day's update.

It might be because one of the sent down goalies has played too many pro games, therefore the veteran status, even in a minor league, I don't know why the COM still don't assign the goalie to the second goalie spot though, but maybe the COM doesn't dress some defenseman or forward who also got the veteran status.

Mr. Unwanted isn't showing up on my practice screen either, I have offers out to a couple goalies. I signed another goalie and the gray goalie went away. I released the new guy and the gray one came back.
Neither of my existing goalies has the "V" on them. My starter only has 46 pro games. The other one has 283.
I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and see if it changes. I've played a few games getting the roster warning but no changes are made.

This is because he isn't with the team, he's just a fill out player.

When you don't have enough players in a particular position then the game creates random grey players to fill up spaces. So I guess you need at least three goalies in your team for sufficient depth - so that if one of your goalies becomes injured/suspended then you can use the grey player to fill the gap. I don't believe they count towards your roster limit.

i was just having the same exact problem with Victoria in the ECHL with Lidas 1.whatever i'm using.
i had some 20 year old kid, and curtis sanford as my two. The regen kid got signed by detroit and manitoba send me krahn. but both count at vets and since echl only allows 4 per game that put me over the limit every day and they threatened me with roster moves, but all they ever did was dress the grey guy for games.
my guess is you can only dress one vet goalie, even when i only dressed two veteran skaters and the two vet goalies they complained.
after about a week and then signing another young goalie and sending krahn back to manitoba the problem went away.
