Jiri Fischer (Det) Collapses

Wow... I was just watching the Detroit/Nashville game and Jiri Fischer went down behind their bench. They were doing CPR/chest compressions on him and cut his jersey off... they are reporting that he took a puck to the throat and collapsed straight backward. Pretty scary. They didn't take him out in the ambulance and say now that he's breathing on his own and receiving care after being moved to the dressing room.
No word on if they're going to call the game or not but they've gone to intermission with 7:30 left in the first yet.

I just hope he's okay.

They are saying it now looks like he might have taken a stick to the throat while sitting on the bench... and that they did take him out in an ambulance. They say now that he's breathing on his own but unconscious. I don't think heart trouble has been ruled out though, as Fischer has had a history of heart problems too.

Just saw an update on this:
His heart had actually stopped, but quick work form the Detroit medical staff managed to get it beating again, hes in a local hospital in good condition and isn't expected to miss much hockey.
The game has been post-poned, with no make-up date annonced just yet.
Lets have a round of applause for the Detroit medical staff.

I heard this news this morning on the radio, it was the first thing they said.
Good that he is okay, it's been too much incidents like this.
Good job by the Detroit medical staff.

What an odd thing to witness live, or at least televised... it really was about 40 minutes before they really knew what had happened as they had thought he got hit by a puck but then on replay the puck wasn't near the bench, then they thought from looking at the replays again (though they didn't have any good angles since cameras don't show the benches much) that maybe someone coming off had been hit from behind and caught him as he was sitting down with their stick in the neck...
As they say now, they had to use a defibrulator on him and it was clear from when they were showing the benches live before they really knew what was going on that someone was over there doing CPR chest compressions on him as well. That was the really scary part

so I'm not surprised it was a heart related matter. Best wishes to Jiri for a speedy recovery and hopefully he'll be able to come back and do what he loves to do which is play hockey. Thankfully his fiancee was in the stadium and they escorted her over to him at the bench so he had someone special to be with him in the ambulance and later in the hospital.
