EHM The Blue Line

Hey guys!

I have created a guide on how to play in the OHL. It makes it a bit easier for anyone that wants to do so for the first time and might come in handy for our next challenge.

There might be some things that I've missed but just let me know so we can improve the guide

I prefer it to OO, because it doesn't use X11 environment. And yes, it's also free.

I do have OO myself, but I don't know what to open with it. When I download and unzip the files, I get UHL folder where are following folders: Configurations2, META-INF and Thumbnails
and files: content.xml, layout-cache (exec file), meta.xml, mimetype (exec file), settings.xml and styles.xml

I've tried to open content.xml and meta.xml, but both of them open in OO Writer as a page full of code.

Hm, weird. Because it shouldn't be a zip-file at all. It's just a .odt-file.

Good guide It comes handy for sure.

But I don't understand why you published it in ODT format. Why not PDF or DOC (OpenOffice/NetOffice can open DOC, but MS Office can't open ODT without plugin)? Or even TXT, because there is no graphics... OR, the best way, write it here directly in your post

I don't have any problem with other .doc.

Maybe PDF is the way to go? Open Office lets you save to a PDF.

To go on topic: developing players in OHL seems somehow weird. The better (and sooner) you develop a player, the sooner you will lose him in pro team (NHL). Let's say he's 18 and NHL club decides to sign him immediatelly. OHL GM should be glad when his players are drafted in late rounds... Perversed, isn't it?

I don't understand the upper age limit. So 20 years old players are OA, 19 are not OA. OK. And 21 years old players? Are they allowed to play there? If so, I suppose they're OA, too, right? And can I sign 30 years old players?

No, you can't sign a 30 year old player. A 21 year old play would be considered an OA but I believe the only reason he can still play with your team at 21 is because of his birth year. Everything is decided upon by birth year in the OHL, as far as I know.

As I wrote in the guide, playing age is of birthyear. That means that some are going to be 21 during the latter part of the season. Their hockey age is still 20, though. And no, you can't sign 30year-old players(Or maybe you can, but they can't play any games).

Both .odt (used NeoOffice) and .doc (MS Office 2004 for Mac) files that Manimal posted work for me, so I guess they're alright. Whatever the problem, seems like it's somewhere on your end, guys.

Yes, you're right, McQwak. However, I'd still recommend downloading OpenOffice (or NeoOffice) to most people, and for a couple of reasons: it's free, and it's good. If you have enough free disc space, it's really worth giving it a try. What's more, MS Office is known to be having backward compatibility issues once in a while (or even more often, and I believe we have seen an example of that above). Some files made by newer versions of the suite don't work on older ones. And both OO and NO seem to be able to cope with that, and even with the .docx/.pptx/.xlsx, which no version of MS Office older than 2007 can open.

And once again, Manimal: thanks for the guide. I'd sure be referring to it come OHL Challenge.

GOt a question, think i should post it here. So I get guys in the very late rounds of the draft who are scouted as future key/core players, and then I scout them again before the signing window, and they are nothing more than future depth players. Is it my scouts? the players? My scouts suggest some guys that have limited potential. Should i take them instead...maybe they will imporve?

I tried opening this but none of the links worked. does anyone have a copy?
