Official 2010 Draft Talk thread

With the draft approaching, I wanted to set up a thread for discussion of the prospects available in the 2010 draft and also for discussion of the draft itself once it happens.
To start things off, I'd like to recommend a great blog written by Kirk Luedeke. He's a writer for the New England Hockey Journal that focuses on the Bruins and prospects. He's got a lot of connections with pro scouts and gets some good info on players. He's also very active on the Bruins board at HFboards. Anyhow, while the blog is focused on the Bruins draft, he's doing a spotlight on each player ranked/expected to go in the first round. Each spotlight features strengths, weaknesses, projections (what type of player), background info, and quotes from scouts, team personnel, and the player themselves. These spotlights have some great info. They might even be useful in researching for next year's version of the Lidas Rosters. Anyhow, read on! BTW, if you want to see the Hall and Seguin spotlights, you'll have to show May blog entries. Everyone else is in June.

I wonder how far Kabanov will fall?
I really like Pulkkinen, Jared Knight and just because of his name, Greg McKegg.
I hope the Avalanche take either Jack Campbell or Jon Merrill. I've heard they may spring for McIlrath and I just think that's a colossal mistake.

Kabanov have already drop alot in the rankings, I really hope he's not gonna be pick in at least the 2 first rounds, he did not deserve it at all.
I just see today at the job that I would be in vacation for the draft, now that's great.

I JUST finish exams when the Draft starts.
Kabanov will be in the top 2 rds. Nobody will pass on his talent. He's a top 5 player in terms of talent. He'll mature. Someone will pick him up.

A weak team certainly, who will take it as a "project". He proves to me he looks like a crybaby. I know he got potential but just for that I wouldn't take any chance, I don't want a second Radulov.

He's burned all bridges to the KHL and QMJHL. All he has left is the AHL (which he's not eligible for yet) and the NHL.

Do you talk about Radulov? Because Kabanov didn't prove anything with only 22 games in the QMJHL.

Kabanov.
Radulov was great in the Q, but he took off for the money.
Kabanov is (in my opinion) better than Radulov.
Kabanov went though what I think was wrist surgery last season and bounced back quite well before the Wildcats dropped him.

23 pts in 22 games, nothing really special to me and HE left the Wildcats not the Wildcats dropped him. He left because he wasn't satisfy of his ice-time and I've heard by some people in Quebec that the whole team wasn't liking his attitude.

Even then, some team will be desperate enough to nab him.
Look at Tebow this year in the NFL Draft. Should have been 3rd round, went 1st .

Sorry I don't follow NFL too much so I really don't know what you're talking about.

But yeah I'm sure some "desperate" team would pick him, I've got no doubt, I'm just saying they shouldn't.

Ah well Tebow is an extremely overrated Quarterback who was way overhyped. His throwing technique is horrid.
Now on to some other prospects.
Who do you like Phil?
Personally I really like Pulkkinen, not too high on McFarland, no matter how well he did at the combine.
I think McIlrath is severely overrated.

Honestly, I don't follow that much the prospect until I watch the draft.

But Pulkkinen seems really promising from what I've heard of a couple of fellows here.
Did McIlrath was the guy Danny talked about in another thread? Like the Bruins have spot him? I really don't know him but it seems to be really too earlier to be pick up in the first round.
I'm more curious to see if after the decent draft they got last year if the Habs will destroy this one.

That's the one! I just don't like him. Don't know what it is. I feel as though he's Belak 2.0.
I don't know what the Habs are going to get, but this draft looks strong into the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Yes it was him. I don't know if the Bruins are seriously considering him. Seems he's got a mediocre skill-set but is one mean customer. Sometimes it's better to take a gamble on the guy who's at least outstanding in one aspect of the game in his draft class ( in this case physical play) rather than to go for the alleged safe pick. Taking Hamill high in the first in 07 didn't exactly work out for the Bs.
I hope Skinner falls to 15, unless of course the Bruins trade up to grab one of the Dmen supposed to go earlier. I guess Austin would be fine as well.

Hamill is still developing and looks like he'll be a decent 2nd line player in his time. I actually really like Hamill. He was regarded as one of the top prospects in his draft and by far one of the safest players to take. He's developing quite nicely.

He's just coming off of surgery, he's obviously going to be going through some pain. He looked okay in the games I've seen.

I'm hearing a lot of talk about the B's loving Watson. He seems like a good B's type of player. I'd love to see the Bruins go after McIlrath but I don't want them to take him with the 15th overall. If he's still there in the 20's, I wouldn't mind seeing them make a deal to use the 32nd overall plus something to move up and grab him.
As for Kabanov... he seemed to be trying to do the right thing for a bit. He admitted he made a mistake by leaving his Junior team and stated that he wouldn't be going back to Russia to play. He said he wanted to play in North America, whether that be in Junior, AHL, or NHL. Then about a week or two later, his agent (who is supposed to be one of the better agents out there) dropped. From what I've been reading, his father is a control freak and is really helping ruin the kid's career. He's going to be a risky pick.

Wow if that's true about the father that sucks really bad. If I was a kid trap with parents like that I would be like "Yeah you're in Russian and I'm in America so screw you I'll make my own career."

I know it's not as simple as this but it would be the best.

With everyone looking forward to the upcoming draft, maybe we should try doing a mock one right here on the forums, with everyone choosing teams and making the picks.
Who's with me?!

LOL - QUICK! Where is Hensel and that Sens fan to get us off on the right foot!?
A for effort. The inaugural TBL-half-assed-fantasy-draft was epic in it awesomeness. Did you see the part when they wanted to start trading picks AND players. OH, and signing staff. Freakin' classic.
