I hasn't read the whole thread so don't get mad at me ;)

First, you're doing a great job dabo, keep it up!

Second, will there be any kind of youth academies like in FM? In EHM the talents just pop up anywhere and very often not in the clubs that produces talents in real life. I know that many talents starts in small clubs and then goes to a bigger club, but for example: Fredrik Pettersson who played this latest season in Frölunda HC and will play in Atlanta next season comes originally from Frölunda, when I play with Frölunda in EHM I never get a talented player to my youth teams. I hope that you understand what I mean :-p

I know what you mean and I would like to do it more like FM yes.

One thing I like about EHM 2007 over freeware EHM is the general handling of the farm team (just talking NHL/AHL here).

In the freeware, the NHL GM has too much to do, IMO, regarding the farm team - perhaps, though, in NHL 2007, the GM has too little to do.

I would love to have my Assistant GM just handle all that stuff. However, I would like to be able to provide guidance in some way to the Asst GM and farm coaches. For example, I just signed a guy I think is going to be a future star but, based on current skill wouldn't crack the AHL lineup. I'd like to tell the farm guys to give the guy a shot and provide assessments to me on a weekly basis - or something like that.

I have to agree that I would love to tell staff in the minors how to develop guys, and the weekly assessments on the players would be fantastic. It would be nice if the a coach from any level could pop a message in the inbox saying "Hey, player X is struggling at skating" and then you could figure out how to remedy that. Personally, I love to micromanage every aspect of development so stuff like player progress reports would enhance the game so much.

Another idea based on player development would be the ability to communicate directly with the players. In EHM 2007, the closest it ever got to that was when you had to set a player's status. But there would be so much more you could do with it. If one of your players had a really good game, you could send him a congratulatory note, and maybe that would improve his morale for a few games. Or maybe they're struggling a bit, so you tell them that if they keep working hard, good things will come, and maybe that will improve the work ethic for a few weeks. In real life, a lot of GMs communicate frequently with players/prospects, and adding this to Dabo's project would be sweet.

One thing to keep in mind with farm teams is that the NHL team (GM or AGM) don't always run their team's AHL affiliate and sometimes they share that affiliate with another NHL team. I know the Bruins basically run their AHL affiliate in Boston but I'm pretty sure that's not the case all over the AHL, especially with all of these teams changing affiliation every other season. Maybe the way to handle it would be for the NHL team to be able to send "suggestions" to their farm teams? Maybe you could designate your top 5 prospects that you have loaned to your affiliate and they would get preference in regards to ice time? That way, if two teams shared an affiliate, they would each have 5 guys that they could designate as their top guys loaned to the team and those 10 guys would definitely get played. Then the affiliate team would be able to do what they want with the other 10 roster spots.

First of all, thanks to Dabo for taking this project on, it looks really promising so far and I'll do my best to help. :-D

I like the preference idea, because on every farm team you have players who the parent team are looking to develop further and have high hopes for, but you also have guys who are just there to fill out roster spots.

One option I'd like to suggest is holding a rookie camp in summer where you would invite all your prospects, plus undrafted ones or maybe even guys entering their draft year. You would play inter squad games, intense practice sessions and play against other teams' rookies. Plus you can later invite these prospects to your own regular training camp a few months later.

Yeah - as thorough as EHM was, it never did the rookie camp thing and that's something I look forward to every year IRL.

That sounds good with the exception of guys entering their draft year. I don't think they join individual teams' camps. They would go to the combine or one of those big prospects games. The rookie camps are usually held a month or two before training camp. Teams invite recent draft picks (their own) and other prospects, mostly those who they haven't signed yet. They even invite undrafted UFAs. It's interesting to note that NCAA players ARE allowed to join these camps. The Bruins finally started doing rookie camps a few years ago and because of the types of players invited and the lack of pro experience, college players don't violate NCAA rules. It gives the youngsters a better idea of what they need to work on in the eyes of their NHL team.

It would be nice to get a look at the NCAA guys more.

In European leagues it would be a HUGE step forward if you actually could decide training for the young players playing in juniors... :-k

I think coaching styles should rub off on player developments.

Say as a 14 year old I play for an extremely defensive minded coach, odds are I'm going to play a more defensive style.

Sorry if Im flooding the board, but I agree with the above, 13 year olds [as mentioned in my player creater post] should be vary maluable in terms of stats, as most of them have been just learning the game for however long, and havnt really seen what they're good at, some guys will obviously be better skaters, or have better shots, but the coaches should handle most of it, maybe with a player that should be being tought defence not living up to his full potential because his highschool coach only focused on defence, so when he hit the big leagues he just couldnt score the way he could have, but we would never know because we cant see full potential
