EHM The Blue Line

Give me suggestions for a good European team to manage.(following the Stars debacle ) I fancy Koln Haie perhaps, but any others worth a crack?

HIFK Helsinki, or Helsinki H if you're playing without the unfaking

A great team with long and successfull history, the season starts with rather nameless team compared to the recent years but as real life situation shows, the team is still more than capable of kicking some serious butt

I'd go for the Finnish or Swedish Leagues. Iirc, Sweden has relegation and promotion between leagues; that could be interesting.

For Finland, I'd suggest Espoo Blues because according to their number one fan (Tasku) they have some great potential but just need someone to harness it.

Not sure who would be a good Swedish team. We have a few Swedes here so maybe they could help you out.

Some of the Russian teams are tough, basically all the European teams are tougher to manage in my opinion.

I think i need a new challenge as well. I have the original EHM 2005 version (cant get the hang of the winzip to upgrade it to this seasons rosters). My current game is Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL and to be honest, i'm finding it far too easy.

The UK leagues are no challenge at all, can win the EIHL with any of those teams. The BNL bores me due to playing the same teams 10 times by Xmas.

I chose Koln initially, but i quit that game a while back after things started to go pear-shaped.
I am now manging in the less pressured surroundings of the Swedish Allsvenskan with Bjorkloven (no I had never heard of them either). After 17 games I am third in the division with 35 points, a point clear of the fourth place team Vasteras and with two games in hand over them. I am guessing that the top four go into some sort of play-off at the end of the year. I would love to get them into the Elite League but i might then move on. I have the Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, German, NHL and AHL leagues selected, so there will be plenty of choice.

The top four teams goes to a qualification serie with two teams from Elitserien and two teams is going to be promoted from that group. They actually changed the rules for Allsvenskan so now all the teams plays in one league instead of two as it was earlier.

If you hadn't picked Björklöven you could have choosed Djurgården.

Somehow we just scored three goals (one whilst shorthanded) in the last 15 minutes of the game against Vasteras to tie it 5-5. we then survived overtime to take a point-I'm delighted!

Do the Smetana rosters make for NHL speed of play, and if this is the case would it be better to change to the unfaking series whilst managing elsewhere in Europe in the future?

I swear that this game is against me. On every successful season I have we always have a massive winter slump:thdn:. I resigned from Bjorkloven because we were going to miss out on the play-offs and I couldn't stand the thought of another naff season in the Swedish second division I think I'll manage Ajax on FM...

This happens me sometimes too. But I'm always trying to sign a few good free agents to help the team for the next season.

I might manage in Norway-where you are either in the play-offs or relegated-that'll sort me out in the first season! Otherwise perhaps HIFK in Finland or Djurgardens-just to please you joehelmer

Thanks, Djurgårdens roster is'nt too good, but some new players they got a roster that is okay. I got beatebn by Farjestad in the quarterfinals, 4-1 to them. Just wait for next season.

Most importantly-do they have any transfer cash? That was one of the biggest problems at Bjorkloven, that and the fact that they had about 23 centers and no wingers

Djurgården got $150,000 in transfer funds at the start of the game.

I'm think I'm gonna give the Leafs a shot now because I really need a challenge and there's lots of things to be fixed i TO.

I just finished my first year in the Norwegian league with Trondheim i enjoyed it after playing nhl and ahl exclusively previously. They dont have much cash and you start out with some rather useless people...it was a challenge to sneak into the 8th and final playoff spot. half the team will be gone during my first post season. budget of $325k and 10 foreigners, before i took over they had given $55K to some 35 year old no-name canadian guy who ended scoring less than 15 points all season with mostly 2nd line ice time, i cant wait to put that cash to better use.

I'm looking at changing things up a bit to give myself a better challenge to change things up a bit and force me out of my old habits and approach things a little differently...wanted to get some opinions/feedback on my "gameplay" ideas:

Russian Connection - ALL Russian roster, trade every non-Russian player/prospect and only sign, draft, play Russians

Baltic Sea Roster - like Russian Connection but players from Sweden, Norway (Scandinavia), Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and Denmark (excluding Russia since it's only a very minor border)

Minor Nations - like above but EXCLUDES USA, CAN, RUS, SWE, FIN, & CZE

No UFA - No UFA/RFA signings allowed, draft and develop or trade only (excluding my players who go RFA). This is similar to what I already tend to do the most, BUT, I won't be able to sign any "stop gap" players to hold me over until my draftees develop

Scout the UK and try and get a British player into the NHL? Would be a long-term project, maybe taking over and 'managing' your farm teams as well so as to develop him properly. We've had guys drafted before but no Brits have ever cracked an NHL line-up. Would probably require some 'fudging' on the GM's part to get him ice-time as I can't think of anyone in the game ATM who has that sort of up-side from a CA perspective.

In my current save, I can't remember exactly which options I ticked on at startup, but I currently have some prospects that I drafted from UK, Hong Kong, and South Africa. Almost drafted a guy from Spain, a couple from the Netherlands, and a Turkish player. That's why I mentioned a "minor nations" type of save...still include enough "mid-level" nations that I can ice some NHL players, but also gives me a chance to see if I can get those rare players from more minor nations into the NHL.

Hello. I've been playing EHM for awhile now and want to do a career where I take over a low level team and work my way up through the ranks as a GM by jumping from job-to-job. I think I want to keep it in North America, but could be persuaded otherwise. Which league is the best for something like this? Should I start in the ECHL or on a CHL team first? Or somewhere else all together?

I've played EHM since it came out, and I've not gone more than 2 seasons in the big leagues without starting a new WHL career, with the CHL you'll find that every 3-4 years you have a completely different team that you've scouted yourself(after the first 4 year transition).

What I like best is that you can groom players, if they are a 4th liner their first season, they could be the league's leading scorer a couple seasons later, en route to being an impact player in the NHL. To make things neat, I try and upgrade a few players every couple of years so that I know there is bonafide NHL players that I'm dressing and playing against. The AI doesn't make complete players at that age, so it's up to you to fill the voids and lead your team!

Note: OHL and QMJHL run under the same reputations, etc. so they are really the exact same, it's just preference. I follow the WHL so it's easy for me to play hours upon hours. I'm talking.... HUNDREDS of hours. There's a reason I get this game for free B)
