Can a goaltender win the Conn Smythe?

Hello fellow EHM-players!

As the title says, can a goaltender win the Conn Smythe trophy in this game? I just finished the playoffs in my latest save with the Kings, winning the Cup in Washington against the Caps in Game 7. My goaltender, Jonathan Quick, carried the team through the playoffs when the offense didn't work (61 goals in 27 games).

In those 27 games Quick only got beat 50 times, for a 1.85 GAA and a SVS% at 94.3(!)% and an average rating for 9.15. He was, as the only player with +10 games played during the playoff, the only player with a rating of +9.00, the closest player of those who played in the finals were Caps Nicklas Bäckström with an avreage rating of 8.79, almost 0.40 rating a game behind Quick - with 3 games less played!

For me, it was obvious who should get the Conn Smythe, Quick was that much better than the rest of the players in the playoffs so it just couldn't go to anyone else but to my surpise he wasn't even top3!

The Conn Smythe was awarded to Anze Kopitar, who finished 4th in scoring with 11 goals and 11 assist in 27 games, posting a 8.62 average rating. Second was Nicklas Bäckström, who finished second in points (9+20) in the playoffs behind Alex Semin (11+22). On third place in the Conn Smythe votings was Alex Ovechkin with his 15 goals and 12 assists and average rating of 8.78.

It just amazes me that all these 3 players could finish before Quick so I actually started to look through my old saves to see if any goaltender has won the Conn Smythe, my longest save is to the 31/32 season and there's a few saves that I have played for at least 10 seasons. The result was that no goaltender has ever won the Conn Smythe, it almost always goes to a forward in my saves. Chara won it once when I had him in Pittsburgh and he scored 1.5 points a game with an average rating of 9.56 during the playoffs but that's the only time in more than 70 playoffs that the Conn Smythe haven't be awarded to a forward for me.

So my question is if any of you guys actually had a goaltender winning the Conn Smythe in any of your games because this actually really annoyed me. It was so obvious that Quick should have won it and he didn't even finish in the top3, he also lost the Vezina even though he had superior stats on a "worse" (we finished 6th in the Western Conference but only the Flames and the Devils had less goals against average) team but I could handle that.

I'm quite certain that I have had a Conn Smythe won by a goaltender in my current game... I'll have to take a look to see who it was when I have a chance.

That would be awesome, do you think that you post the stats aswell? I'm quite curious to see how dominant a goaltender has to be to get the Conn Smythe. :)

In my current Chilliwack Bruins game, Henrik Lundqvist won the Conn Smythe in 07-08.

24GP 16W - 36GA - 1.42GAA - .948SV% - 6SO - 9.25AVR. He also had an assist! =D>

That's actually pretty funny. Turns out it was Henrik Lundqvist that won it in my game too. In 2012/13

23GP - 16W - 2.02GAA - .935SV% - 3SO - 8.96AVR... and yes, one assist as well. Not even as good as Vikke's game above, but still good enough for the trophy somehow.
