Phoenix Coyotes assistant coach Rick Tocchet is one of three people facing gambling-related charges, it was announced today by the New Jersey State Police. Tocchet is alleged to be part of a gambling ring that processed over 1,000 bets in excess of $1.7 million over a 40 day period. Tocchet faces charges of promoting gambling, conspiracy, and money laundering, which is the most serious charge.

They were talking about this yesterday during the Avs game since of course Tocchet coached there too and of course they were hoping it wasn't true... but they did say that if it is this could be realllllly ugly because it is alleged to go pretty deep and involve some really big names.
They went on to say that it's just what the league
doesn't need right since for non-fans the recent history of hockey will go "lockout: missed a year . . . player suspended from olympics for steroids . . . betting scandal" and they unfortunately have a point

Eh, I always belived the reason there so many harsh laws against gambling is because ANYONE can make money from it, and not have to give a piece of the pie to the goverment.

If they gambled on hockey, they should be punished. But if this was a gambling operation to place wagers on NFL, MLB etc., I wouldn't bother.
