I'll support italy with them having ex Eagle john parco but yeah they will be teh whippig bots no doubt.

Also i expect germany to struggle.

My tip well why not Czech Republic This will be hasek's last Olympics and could be Jagr's aswell well at least as good as he is now.

Russia have a strong goalie and a good mix of experience and potential goign forward

Also the swedes look pretty good especially if forsberg is fit.

of course Canada are the favourites but i think they will feel the tiredness of the NHL season but will still be right up there whatever no doubt.

predictions
Gold - Czech Republic
Silver - Russia
Bronze - Canada
4th - Sweden

Does anyone know if any of the games are going to be on terrestrial in the UK, i've looked on the BBC website and they have some early games(their schedule only says the next 7 days) but they're on the digital channels, any ideas if the later rounds will be one BBC2?

Just meaning that they seem to have quite a few injury doubts although they ain't the only ones but prob the worst off in injury terms from what i've seen. I'm sure they will try and make it as many as possible to play but a few knocks in the olympics and they could come into some trouble.

International rules and ice may play a bit of a part. The ice is bigger than nhl. many of the players on the euro teams came back over for the lock out and so perhaps have a more recent experience of such rink size. the same could be said about rules with the NHl changing their rules may be strange for some of them and with little training time before it they will have to adjust quickly. Very much minor factors I know and i expect Canada to be among the top 4 and are the favourites.

There are a few russians who decided to stay in russia this year they im sure will be desperate to showcase their talent and get teams intrested in them.

Not too sure either. they may have a press the red button but if you don't have any digital that could be a problem. maybe they will be streamed somewhere on the net somewhere by some foreign channel somewhere.

You can find their entire schedule here. It seems that they just show 'Olympic Grandstand' on BBC2 which I guess means they'll show a bit of everything that's being shown on the digital channels. I guess it's best to look at the hockey fixtures and then check BBC2 while the game is playing :dunno:

So am I (duh), though I believe that our chances are pretty slim this time. Compared to the other teams only our defense is amongst the top5. For goalies we're questionable at best, with Kipper we could've had a shot there but without him, I doubt it. As for forwards, our problem has pretty much always been that we lack top scorers and playmakers, I'd be willing to bet that the problem will be our downfall in the olympics also. We have plenty of great grinders, and while that has saved us several times, I doubt it will this time.

On top of this, the coaching staff has done just about everything possible to unimpress me on the previous tournaments this season.

Yeah it does seem to have gone downhill since 2004. I remember watching the championships last May and not being too impressed with many things that the Finns did; especially the defence

apologies.

I'll be rooting for the underdogs, as I do not really have a preference. I hope we see some classic games though. The women's competition starts on Saturday, when does the men's begin?

Every year there's the sceptics moaning, "no way, we're rubbish, we can't do it" etc, but still we keep reaching the finals just about every year. 8-)

... if it wasn't for that darn Canada! ](*,)

Sadly no gold for more than ten years. Well maybe this year! =D>

With the women's competition they have live streaming on the BBc web page and will probably do the same with the men's, but I believe that this is a service only available to Broadband users in the UK I'm afraid. (the quality isn't brilliant anyway)

Oh yeah so you can! Here's the link. Shame the quality isn't great. I don't think it will be that great trying to spot the puck! Hopefullly they'll show the games on BBC2. ;)

I just got back from watching Team Canada have there last practice on Canadian ice before heading over to Italy. It was so awesome seeing them play on the same ice i've played on for years, and come out of the dressing room's I've been useing. I don't remember all the lines, but I do remmebr that Quinn split up all of the Tampa bay guys, and one line that he really seemed to work with alot was Nash - Thorton - Gagne. Doan was the 13th forward and odd man out.
