Hall of Famer Respawns

Kind of a general question, but when/during what Draft do the Hall of Famers that retire at the beginning of the game become available for selection? When they do, do they typically become superstars as well?

Thanks.

Every single player who retires will be regenerated to keep a constant amount of players in the game. There are a few things that won't change, but many will - therefor it's not easy to say who this regen initially was. To answer your question: Generally european players will respawn as 15y old guys, north american ones with 14 years. So, if they retire in June/July they will be available to pick in the draft 3 or 4 years ahead (2009/2010).

Attributes/abbilities that will stay the same:

*Potential abbility as the most important one - players with a random PA (especially the -14/-15 ones )will be diced again everytime they retire and their PA has a wide margin (i.e.: A prospect like Dougie Hamilton can be very good in his first session, but much worse once reborn and in the new database (3.1) all the star-players are having those random PAs)
*Cosistency
*Flair
*Size & Weight (--> very good indicator for guys like Jágr [234 pounds I think] or Mats Sundin [6'5''], a player will be fully grown when 20y old, so he is smaller and lighter when reborn and in the draft)
-----------------------

The rest of the attributes is mostly random including their mental ones (Getzlaf's regen will most probably be far worse mentally as those are pretty high and hard to "reroll"), but generally spoken a guy with a very high PA develops faster than others would do, even if they are not so good mentally. A good indicator apart from scouting reports to determine if a player is a strong regen is to have an eye on their development until the age of 20 or so. If they get 4-5 (depending on initial values) points in most of the attributes over that time frame it's most probably a regen with a high PA.
Hope that helps, it's a lot of fun to try to identify regens in a draft without using programs. But it's hard...

Thanks a bunch, that answers my question :-)

Only regen I've successfully been able to identify was Zdeno Chara, but that one's probably the most obvious. I'll keep an eye out in three to four years, thanks!

Hasek is also a very obvious one. 5'11" Czech goalie.
