Hey All,
Apologies in advance for what is probably a very stupid question. What is the Unfaking patch that people keep mentioning on here? What does it do? How does it enhance the game? Where can it be downloaded from?

It corrects all of the fake names in the game to their real life counterparts, e.g. it renames the AAL leagues to the UHL and CHL. It also corrects team and player names. To see the changes, you have to start a new game. It doesn't affect saved games.
This guide explains how to install databases.
The Unfaking Database can be downloaded here:

Are you putting the files directly into the database folder? It shouldn't create any subfolders within that folder.

It doesnt come up with the same screenshots as your guide. I've never had to use winzip before, so i dont know if i'm unzipping the files into the wrong location or something.
Try following these instructions exactly:
1) Copy the ZIP file to your desktop
2) Right-click on the ZIP and drag it to another part of the desktop (you need to keep the right-mouse button clicked down whilst you do this).
3) Let go of the right-mouse button whilst your mouse pointer is on top of the desktop. You should then see a menu appear like the one below:
4) Find the WinZip section of the menu and click on 'Extract to here' (you can see it in the screenshot above).
5) This will create a new folder on your desktop called 'database'.
6) Double-click on the 'database' folder. You will see the contents of this folder displayed in a window:
7) Open My Computer and go to the folder where EHM 2005 is installed. Then go to the 'data' folder and then the 'database' folder. In other words, you want a window displaying the contents of EHM 2005's 'database' folder.
8) You should now have two windows open: One of EHM 2005's 'database' and the other of the Unfaking 'database':
9) Select all the files in the Unfaking 'database' folder so that they are all highlighted (see the screenshot above).
10) Left-click on one of the highlighted files and drag it to EHM 2005's window. This should mean that all of the files in the Unfaking 'database' folder are dragged across.
11) Let go of the left-mouse button whilst it is over the EHM 2005 'database' window.
12) A window should pop-up asking whether you want to overwrite all of the files. Click on 'Yes to all':
13) Start a new game of EHM.
Have you figured it out now?

Does that unfake DB work on top on version 2.1.3 ?, as when it was made it was 2.1.2 that was out.

Yes it does, as 2.1.3 didn't change the database

I tried several more times, but still no luck. Did it exactly as outlined above, but the files that are replacing the current database show the same date. However, when i start a new game, the leagues are still called AAL-3 etc, and the Arena names are still all the same

The only other possible thing I can think of is to remove you .dam files but honestly I have no idea if that will work. If you want to give it a shot copy all files ending in .dam from your database folder and store them somewhere else as a backup. The game should rebuild/recreate those files for you when you next start up your game; I vaguely remember someone having a similar problem when we made a big db upgrade during testing and I think that was the solution that finally worked for him... but, I don't know what your actual result will be so make sure you keep the files you remove in this process so you can restore them if it causes you problems.

This is really strange

All I can suggest is downloading the Unfaking patch once again or perhaps Smetana's.
