The Official "Trade Deadline Deals" Thread
Posted: Fri Mar 03, 2006 8:42 pm
by Systemfel
A thread for the upcoming NHL trade deadline at 3 pm EST on March 9th.
So far two deals have been completed:
Calgary sent AHLer Cam Severson to the Blue Jackets in exchange for rugged d-man Cale Hulse
The Ducks obtained ECHL goaltender Jani Hurme from Atlanta for fellow ECHLer Joel Stepp
Some Rumors
Olli Jokinen (FLA) | Sens, Flames
Roberto Luongo (FLA) | Canucks, Kings
Martin Biron (BUF) | Canucks, Kings, Oilers
Mika Noronen (BUF) | Oilers
Keith Tkachuk (STL) | Devils, Flyers
Dwayne Roloson (MIN) | Canucks, Sens
Andy Raycroft (BOST) | Oilers, Canucks
Brendan Witt (WSH) | Canucks, Preds, Flyers
Shane Doan (PHX) | Flyers
Bryan McCabe (TOR) | ?
Sergei Samsonov (BOS) | ?
Willie Mitchell (MIN) | ?
John LeClair (PIT) | ?
Curtis Joseph (PHX) | Oilers
Jeff Friesen (WSH) | ?
Brian Leetch (BOS) | Rangers
Mark Parrish (NYI) | Flames, Flyers
Bryan Berard (CBJ) | ?
Mark Recchi (PIT) | Flyers
Obviously, the Oil will trade for a goalie and Witt will definitely leave D.C. Doan would look great on the Wings, but I doubt we have anything that the 'Yotes would want, really.

Good Thread!
Remember how close teams are to the cap will have a big effect on any trades. Does anyone know if there is a web site that shows cap room?
I heard on XM Home Ice Radio that the Wild are trying to re-sign Willie Mitchell and that the Panthers will offer Olli Jokined 5.2 mil/year for 3 years. And, the big rumor is Luongo to the Kings, but the details aren't known...

The talk around Boston is that it would be surprising to see the Bruins make any major deal. With Toivonen still hurt it makes it unlikely that they will move Raycroft. And since the Bruins are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, it's unlikely that they would move Samsonov, since they would really need him and they might not want to shake up the locker room right now.
But as always ... we'll see

Wild sign Fernandez to multi-year deal, this has to mean they're trading Rolson.

You can add Mark Recchi(PIT) to that list he has said now he would approve a trade if he felt it would benefit the Penguins for the future. Carig Patrick(GM) has confirmed this and said he has no definite plans but is looking in to possibilities.

Will Buffalo
ever trade a goalie?!?

People we almost certain they wouldn't get out of camp without a deal and here it is almost the deadline and they still haven't made a move...
It's rumored if Phoenix can't resign Derrik Morris before the deadline they will look to deal him instead and if they do they'll have plenty of offers I'd bet.
As for Cap room, yeah TSN has a great team by team listing of contacts but there isn't a page with links for them, it's a sidebar feature of their
main page so just pick the team you want there...
It will be interesting to see how teams approach the deadline this year with the cap in mind. I'd guess Tkatchuk will not be moved due to Cap issues; he has a no-trade and his 2006 is a team option year. That option is for I think 3.6 million but it counts 5.8 to the Cap (for reasons I don't understand...) and it'd rumored he won't go anywhere without that being picked up.
Anyhow, here is TSN's Trade Center Page:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/trade_deadline/
Another one I like to check is Sportsnet, they have put together a "5 deals that make sense" feature that is worth a

though I guess "makes sense" is a relative term... I think the Jokinen to the Flames portion sounds like a Leafs fan talking

Last I checked the Flames don't exactly have the means to bring in that kind of salary with nothing going the other way...

Well, I'm almost certain the Flames will not land Jokinen. Think Ottawa will win that battle.

Not a trade, but...
The Wild just claimed Mattias Weinhandl off waivers from the Isles!!!
Holy bananas!
In answer to your question, this is a family forum - Archi.

I just heard a rumour on HNIC. Some guy who does the radio for the Oilers or some such thing said the Oilers are gonna go after Belfore if they can't get Joesph. I reallllllllllllllllly hope they do
EDIT a few hours later: They just interviewed Darryl Sutter and heres how the interview went:
Interviewer: What are the prospects of a trade?
Sutter: What prospect?...I'M NOT TRADEING ANY PROSPECTS
Interviewer: err...uhh..ok what is the likelyhood of a trade?
Sutter: Not very likely...We made two already thats enough for our locker room.
I was laughing too hard to hear what he said about Team Canada.

Montreal traded Jose Theodore straight up for David Aebischer.
I'm stunned, but very very happy.

Wow... there's one that if you predicted it preseason people would have called you completely insane, now not so much. I find the injury factor to actually be the most surpising, that and Aeb has been playing just about as well as any goalie after the rough start while Theodore's season has been finding new bottoms to sink through on a continuous basis.
I also saw that the Canes picked up some grit sending a 3rd to the Rangers for Ville Niemenen.
The latest I've seen was: The New York Islanders have traded forward Mark Parrish and defenceman Brent Sopel to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for defenceman Denis Grebeshkov, forward Jeff Tambellini and a conditional third round pick.
So LA gets some firepower for the playoff push and the Isles officially signify "Yes, we're rebuilding"

One of those deals that could be really interesting to look back on in a few years and see how it's worked for the teams involved... I guess the development of Tambellini will tell the majority of the tale on that one.

Leafs trade Ken Klee (their only good defensive defenseman) to the Devils in exchange for a prospect.
Then they trade a 4th and 5th round pick to Blue Jackets in exchange for Richardson.
Not really bad trades but...whats the point of tradeing away a good gritty defenseman for an older, slower version?

That's a fairly odd trade to say the least. I guess there must be some logic to it but I just can't figure out what.
The B's have picked up Czerkawski from the waivers. Not too bad an acquisition I must say. I've always been impressed with the way he used to play for the Islanders. I hope he can make a big impact for us

Good luck with him, more often than not he was a healthy scratch in Toronto. Maybe he just didn't like the city.

Wooow, Aebischer for Theodore? That's pretty...weird.

I thought he was traded to the Sharks?
