History Project Testing Thread (Manimal v4.0.5)

I was originally going to put this in the same thread as the initial research thread, but thought it better to put it in a new thread:
This is a thread for any of the researchers to post any mistakes in they encounter when testing the histories. Here are some initial mistakes found:
1) Toronto player's histories have been duplicated.
2) Some NY Rangers players have Hartford Wolf Pack in their AHL history when it should be Connecticut Whale.
By the way, the only users testing these rosters are those that helped with the research (I'm not looking for any volunteers). The histories will be made available to everybody when the Manimal v4.1 Rosters are released.

By the way, if anybody who helped with the research didn't receive my PM then please let me know and I'll send the download details to you. There are so many users that helped that I may well have missed one or two users from the PM by mistake.

The Rangers goalies do not have the games played added for play-offs, making their play-off stats not showing up in game

As with some of the Maple Leafs histories, some of the Hurricanes histories have been added twice.

Tonight I'll make a list of errors in KHL.
As long as you have seen these errors:
1) Ivan Baranka In two seasons in the AHL is unknown team
2) All the Russian players, which I have accents Russian vtoraya liga - it's not right, because it's Rus-4, need to change for these players on the Russian Pervaya liga
3) for some players need to change Belarus first division on the Belarus Hockey League
a complete list of the evening in Excel file, send

That is from the Hartford Wolf Pack/WolfPack/Connecticut Whale flaw. The Hartford Wolf Pack is/was an high school team (if I'm not mistaken). The AHL Hartford WolfPack was renamed Connecticut Whale

I will check Elitserien first.
I have started with goalies and found one mistake with Viktor Fasth in AIK. If you still got my accde file (or I send it again) you can see that I somehow got the years, club and competition in wrong order in the history editor. The other stats is in right place, so it should be like this;
2006 Tingsryds AIF Swedish First Division
2006 Tingsryds AIF Swedish First Division
2007 Växjö Lakers Hockey Swedish Allsvenskan
2007 Växjö Lakers Hockey Swedish Allsvenskan
2008 Växjö Lakers Hockey Swedish Allsvenskan
2009 Växjö Lakers Hockey Swedish Allsvenskan
2009 Växjö Lakers Hockey Swedish Allsvenskan
2010 AIK Hockey Swedish Elitserien
2010 AIK Hockey Swedish Elitserien
I'll continue with defenders.

Yeah, but unfortunately it makes the games played all mixed.
http://i43.tinypic.com/fjp1g1.jpg
I found "unknown teams" for D Ryan Gunderson (Brynäs) and D Daniel Rahimi (HV71)
Ryan: 2006/07, Columbia Inferno in ECHL and 2007/08, Lowell Devils in AHL.
Daniel: 2007/08, Victoria Salmon Kings in ECHL.
I check forwards in a while.

I ran a few tests and Unknown team is what it says when a team is no longer active. I thought I had found a way around it but it did not work

I don't know if you know about these already Archi but there are some crazy record stats. For example it shows Eric Staal scored 80 goals in 08-09 season and Cam Ward has over 70 wins in three seperate seasons. Craziest stat is that Troy Brouwer seemingly scored 166 assists in 08-09 season and he actually has that in his history. Ward's and Staal's record stats don't show up in their histories. Brouwer has 16 assists in 08-09 so it's just an accidental mistake by whoever updated the Blackhawks stats. His 2010-11 season is also wrong as he didn't play in the Capitals until this season.
Those are just some quick notes I made when glancing through some NHL records and player histories. I'll add more if I find any.
I also want to thank everyone who were involved in this project. Great team work everyone!
EDIT: I just noticed you said that Hurricanes stats were duplicates so that could explain Staal's 80 goals and Ward's wins.

Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. Ward only scored 40 goals that season and so the 80 goals appearing would make sense given the duplication. I'll be sorting out the duplicates prior to the release of v4.1.

I've noticed almost every Rangers player has zero goals in most of their seasons or no points at all from any seasons.
Also, Brad Lukowich has his Texas Stars stats as NHL stats. That's my own stupid mistake.

I have discovered that team names for extinct teams will become 'Unknown team' if their league is not enabled at the start of a game. For example, Victoria Salmon Kings in the ECHL.
Not all teams have a 'Last division' in the editor so if you find any of those, let us know
Reave wrote:some "unknown teams" here too.
Iowa Stars, AHL.
Iowa Chops, AHL.
We decided to have all AHL Iowa stats saved under the Chops name. I have now decided to remove the nickname.
All Iowa Stars or Chops stats will be called just Iowa

I can generate a list of all teams without a League and Last Division referred to in the player histories if this helps the unknown team issue.

First of all this is just a SUGGESTION and my point is certainly not to rush things as I am a very patient person .
I'm merely suggesting that you would consider making a PUBLIC BETA of the current work because there are thousands ( maybe more ) people who have been using
the Manimal ( Lidas ) rosters for a long time .
As I am sure of this site is the biggest and most comprehensive site available for EHM , there would be LOTS of more people checking into minor flaws than currently ( not by any means playing down the fantastic work already done ) .
My point being a thousand pair of eyes see a lot more than a few .
Hope u consider this and i totally understand if this request is too much asked .
Sincerely yours .

I have ordered the part to fix my PC so once I have it fixed I should be able to help with the testing. Unfortunately the patch won't work on my work PC at it is Windows XP and does not have Framework 4.0.

In that case there are a few players I've updated that have wrong team in their histories as I put all Iowa Stars stats under Texas Stars name. Sorry I didn't catch that in the other thread.
I could probably look those players up and post them here so you can edit them. Is that ok?

I am not so sure it was in the other thread. Could have been by PM.
Feel free to post those guys here

Here's a minor correction from Lukas:
about Jaromír Jágr, who has for years 1994 and 2004 club "KB 65" instead of "Rytíři Kladno" (which is the current name of the club he played for in those years, even though the actual name could have been different as the names of the clubs often change in the Czech Extraliga as the sponsors change).
Weirdly, this isn't the only case when these two clubs are interchanged in the histories (KB 65 and Kladno), I actually asked you to correct a history record for one player already in the same manner, so there may be more players with this - but as of now, I haven't found anyone else.

Crikey!

That's for pointing that out. I'll see what Manimal thinks about fixing this. The easiest option is probably for me to use the History Editor to effectively re-do those teams.

I'll try and get it done this weekend. It'll be reasonably straightforward to write a script to do this.

This is all Manimal's project and so he has the ultimate say. But from my perspective, I personally think it's better to keep it a closed beta test (obviously however it is Manimal's opinion that counts and not mine - but understandably he may be too busy with his DB work to respond to you right now).
I totally appreciate where you're coming from. There are many users who are extremely enthusiastic to help out and, as you suggest, there would likely be many users checking out mistakes in the history. However, if we make it a public beta, it becomes more of a release than a beta. Whilst some users would test it out as intended, many would understandably want to get under way with a new game. That's not really the intention of the current database. None of us want to release something that is half-finished and is not top quality. If we released a public beta then what would really be the difference between this and a normal full release? The only real difference would be the many mistakes we have uncovered in the history research (it's somewhat inevitable given that we achieved to research over 50,000 new entries covering nearly 6,000 players).
There are two main reasons we released a closed beta to just the history researchers:
1) To say thank you for all of their incredible work. If it were a public beta then it would defeat this purpose.
2) To give them an opportunity to check their work is in the game correctly and to pick out any mistakes they find. They know how the research worked and know what to look for when testing.
This is a bit of an exceptional situation. Ordinarily, the roster work is done solely by Manimal using the Pre Game Editor (with research coming from the helpful researchers which Manimal inputs into the Editor himself). This is the first time we've had this kind of data entry in updating the database and we've covered five years' of career histories (such a large amount of data increases the margin for error). Had it not been for the history researching project then there wouldn't have been any beta testing at all.
Obviously we won't catch all of the mistakes in this round of testing, but hopefully we'll pick up the main ones. It'll be an ongoing process even once the rosters have been released publicly . As you may have seen from the mistakes/omissions thread, there will be a thousand eyes looking at the histories once the rosters have been released publicly anyhow.
