Manny Fernandez is now 'officially' the Minnesota Wild's No. 1 netminder, as the team has traded goaltender Dwayne Roloson to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a first round pick and a conditional draft pick.

The conditional pick is a third rounder if Roloson re-signs with Edmonton.

The Wild have long been rumoured to be shopping off one of their goalies, and Roloson was the odd man out after the team re-signed Fernandez to a multi-year contract last week.

Roloson, 36, is 6-17 this season with a 3.00 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
Personally, I think a 36 year old goalie isn't worth a first round pick. I guess we'll see how Edmonton does in the playoffs though.

That is a good trade as far as the Wild are concerned-they couldn't lose here...

Iam with u Munky!!! I dont think Roloson is worth a first round draft pick!!! Hes already 36 years old and his record this season istn very good though....

But hey, it was time that something moved over there....just one day of trading remaining and there havent been much trades so far....are they all waiting for the last minute???

This wasn't an overpayment at all. Theres about 7-8 teams that are looking for a goalie and maybe 3 that are willing to trade one. Better to get a goaler and give up an almost worthless 1st round pick then be stuck with 3 un-reliable goalies going into playoffs.

I think the real X factor here is here are two guys that have been 1 and 1a for so long I'm not sure that as a GM I'd feel comfortable relying on either of them to be #1; and especially at this price.

This and Carolina's Weight deal does seem to bear out what most of the 'talk' at this point has been from GMs; that there aren't many sellers and the ones there are are asking for a price that is giving most GMs sticker shock... :-o

And as for "your thread" Systemfel I'll 'Officialize' it and make it our deadline thread 8-) I'll even sticky it until after the deadline :tiptap: But that doesn't mean people can't and/or won't make their own threads still of course :-)

The Oilers definately felt that whoever they could get with their first round pick in the draft was not worth a good playoff run. Was it a fair trade? Yes Was it a good trade? We can determine that after the next 20 games...

I hope that the Wild use their pick well. They need a star consistent scorer or a big name defender. It seems like they are permanently in a state of 'rebuilding'... They have a decent run and then slump again, meaning that they never threaten the divsional pacesetters..Sure there are worse teams out there, but not many more frustrating...

If there was anyone worth takeing after the first 5-10 picks, you wouldn't see a 1st round pick go for Roloson.
