Further control of affiliates

I found this on the SI site:
'INITIAL QUESTION-I am growing ever-frustrated with my team's AHL and ECHL affiliates.
I have two goalies in my system sitting in my AHL team. However, the coaches there never play them, they play two goalies who are listed as being on other AHL teams entirely! So now my goalies are sitting in December with 0 games played, lacking match experience. Nobody wants to take them on loan (possible teams to target list is blank) and I can't get them any game experience.
Might I suggest a new feature for EHM: 07 be the ability to set tactics, hire/fire stuff for your AHL affiliate? No way would an NHL GM let their affiliate keep their prospects tied to the bench.'
SUGGESTED RESPONSE-You can do this by adding a GM to your game (basically another player, which can be you) and take control of your affiliate.
As for why this happens, I think it's because of the players being out of shape. For some reason, the AI has a phobia of using out of shape players. So the only way to get players played by the AI is to get them into shape yourself, then give them to the AI. Otherwise, the players will never see a game unless to fill in for an injury.'
Have any of you guys tried adding a GM just to manage the affiliate?
