Further control of affiliates

I found this on the SI site:
'INITIAL QUESTION-I am growing ever-frustrated with my team's AHL and ECHL affiliates.

I have two goalies in my system sitting in my AHL team. However, the coaches there never play them, they play two goalies who are listed as being on other AHL teams entirely! So now my goalies are sitting in December with 0 games played, lacking match experience. Nobody wants to take them on loan (possible teams to target list is blank) and I can't get them any game experience.

Might I suggest a new feature for EHM: 07 be the ability to set tactics, hire/fire stuff for your AHL affiliate? No way would an NHL GM let their affiliate keep their prospects tied to the bench.'

SUGGESTED RESPONSE-You can do this by adding a GM to your game (basically another player, which can be you) and take control of your affiliate.

As for why this happens, I think it's because of the players being out of shape. For some reason, the AI has a phobia of using out of shape players. So the only way to get players played by the AI is to get them into shape yourself, then give them to the AI. Otherwise, the players will never see a game unless to fill in for an injury.'

Have any of you guys tried adding a GM just to manage the affiliate?

Just a question there: when u go on vacation, the assistant GM takes over, right??

Can u take over the team again whenever u want when u are on vacation??

I ask that because I thought sometimes to take over Providence to control a bit better my rookies.

Yup, Assisstant GM takes over while your gone, and you can come back whenever you like.

I always run my AHL affiliate. Always. I hire good coaches, choose the lines, and the training schedules. I let the head coach chooses tactics most of the time, the only time I choose the tactics is if I want to roll 4 lines to get everyone ice time.

We will even allow you to do this in your Challenge games as well; it's mentioned in the rules 8-) I suggest to make it easier on you to name whatever you name your other GM name them starting with AHL or ECHL so they are easier to pick out of the 'Switch GM' list.

I will always at least get new coaches in and set which coach will be doing which area of practice.

Usually I keep a note about when their next game is (as there are bigger gaps than the NHL) put them on vacation until then and check in that afternoon to safeguard that players aren't playing at a low condition.

If you want to set your lines to make sure your top prospects don't end up on the third line or something and that your tactics/team selection are used set your three * marked GM options to 'Yes' (Use current tactics/team/lines).
