Do Coaches "Specialize"?

First of all, I'm sorry if this question was already asked and answered before, I didn't quite know what keywords to search aside from the few obvious ones, and so far came up empty on the search bar, so here it is:

Do assistant coaches kinda "specialize" on the type of players they coach in the game? In other words, is it better to have a team of coaches who have really strong attributes in different categories (one good with coaches, one good with forwards, etc) or to have a more balanced team of coaches who can coach all positions competently (for both a farm team and a parent club looking to win) assuming stuff like tactical knowledge and man management are comparable?

This kinda just popped up into my mind cause I recently got a new assistant for my AHL team with 20 determination, 20 Working with young players, and 17 goaltending cause I've got Tuukka Rask in his last AHL season before he's ready full time and a recently-drafted really good goalie prospect playing AHL hockey next season (18 years old, 20 reflexes, 19 recovery, average of 14 ish in every other technical aspect that's not stickhandling, decent physical/mental attributes aside from anticipation and influence)

Also, how important is a coach's determination rating to prospect development? Is it just more of an in-game thing?

P.S. Goalies just went 1st overall in back to back seasons in the game I'm in, not including my guy. This is gonna be a goaltender's league.

The EHM guides do go over coaching quite well.

In my experience you will have a hard time finding 6 coaches (1 HC and 5 AC) with 'balanced' stats that are good. I'll usually have 'specialized' coaches. I usually get two coaching with a high offensive stat, 2 with a defensive, and one wth Goalies and one with Tactics. I also try and make sure that determination, disicpline and adapability are high too.

Take a look through the Team Practice section of the EHM 2005 Guide: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/wiki/inde ... m_Practice

There's a lot there about coaching attributes, etc. Although it was written for EHM 2005, it is equally as relevant to EHM 2007.

Like I say, take a look through it and let us know if you've got further questions.

Need some intel
I've just read that guide and notice that he's assigning coaches up to four spots... i usually asign one to one spot:

These are my coaches wich i placed by their stats and not they're "text" skills.

Tactics: Head Coach, coaching style "General", likes direct offense
Att: Ass. Coach, Technique Based, Patient
Def: Ass. Coach, Technique-Based, attacking style of play
G: Ass. Coach, Technique Based, Patient
Cond: Ass. Coach, Conditionning based, defensive style of play
Shoot & skating (same guy): Ass. Coach, Technique Based, Direct style of play

When you put a defenseman on defense training, is his offensive stats will rise up too or just is defensive one? Same with attackers, if they usually train on offense will their defense stats rise up? Don't know if you get me...

Usually my players stats rise up but i want to get it to another level like getting a prospect and building him up the way he's supposed too. Like getting young mike green and helping him rise is offensive stats and getting a bit of D too.

I thought I’d seen a post awhile ago that connected what practice areas improved what player attributes, and I did spend some time searching for it, but alas couldn’t find it…sorry - if you do any testing to get your answers please post your results!

If you put in the training Defense "Attack" Low, this will develop their offensive attribute. but if you put no attack, you're defense will not develop their offensive attribute.
Personally, i develop a new program named Offensive Defense
Denfense:Normal
Offense:Normal
Spped:Normal
Shoot:Normal

It depends on what intensities you assign to the regimens within the schedule. If you set Offensive Skills regimen within the Defensive Skill schedule to intensive, then yes, offensive attributes will rise, generally speaking.

yeah i noticed that. but do their style of play or their preferences influence the training too?

Their preferences can manifest in the player being upset with the type of practice he's being given. When trying to teach a center to play LW, after a couple of weeks I got a message saying he wasn't happy. Putting into a more regular practice cured him.

I generally have 6 practice regimes set up in a season. Early on, Conditioning is set to intense, and then I put 2 of Shooting, Offense, Defense or Tactics to intense, with all others (except goalie) on medium. In December, I switch conditioning to skating.

I'll look at each player to see which skills need the most improvement, or which ones have recently declined, and set him to the practice that works the 2 most needed areas.

From what I've seen, though, but not yet thoroughly tested, playing in games seems to have a much bigger impact on skill change. A forward set to a checking role sees his defensive skills increase even if I don't have him on a defensive oriented practice.
