Bizzare AI Behaviour

Hey guys,

Something really weird happened in the game today. It's currently the offseason before the 2009-2010 in a fantasy draft game I'm playing, and I'm about 2 days into training camp. All of a sudden, one day, out of the blue, about 18 teams (yes, 18) make offers for my 5th dman: Braydon Coburn. He's never been asked about before in a trade proposal, and some of the returns being offered are significant (one team offered a former 1st round prospect, a 2nd rounder, and a longshot prospect). His numbers weren't even that great in the season before: 2-18-20, -1 while playing with very good partner in Matt Greene. I didn't put him on the block or anything, and the player is perfectly happy. Does this mean he had a sudden potential spike in the game? Is this a glitch? Coburn is expendable to me right now because I've got some AHL'ers that are pretty much ready for full time NHL duty, but I wanna keep my original fantasy draft roster as together as possible, and I don't want to trade him if this was a sudden potential increase or something.

Maybe it's just a normal part of the game, and I might be overthinking it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

It means he is developing past being a 5th dman in the opinion of the AI GM's. It happens in my games a fair bit....where they look at my team and see a player who is playing a role for me that is lower than they think they can play for them. It is always (almost) with young players...and those who are appearing to be closing in on being superstars.

My Chara regen had that happen in his first season, second season and third. Why? because year 1 I left him in juniors, year 2 in the AHL and in year 3 he was still only my 6th dman. Some day I am going to post some screenshots of the young defensemen I have on my roster and in the minors and juniors. They are all developing like crazy. And they are all 6'2 215 or bigger. And not one of them is from Canada.

I did not do it intentionally--Just they were the BPA in the drafts. Only the Chara regen is a 1st round pick...yet 3 others have been all stars (and he has not been yet)

Ahh ok, that makes perfect sense. Thanks

Playing 3rd pairing minutes he put up really good offensive numbers (2nd PP unit minutes must have helped), 36 points in 80 games. I think I'm gonna hang on to him as long as my payroll allows me to. But if a team that can offer him a bigger role and my team a solid return asks for him, I'll probably let him go if some of my AHL kids are ready to step in.
