EHM 2007 on Windows 8

Post by Aahlstroem »

Windows 8 will be released very soon and I think that I'm going to buy it and try it out. But do you guys think that I will be able to play EHM with Windows 8? Even though FHM is around the corner EHM is EHM and I've got some nice saves that would be fun to be able to go back to and play some times.

A while back I installed a consumer preview (ie beta) of Windows 8. I didn't install Windows directly onto a partition but instead as a virtual PC within my own Windows 7 install. So I don't know how reliable my experience is, but I ran into two problems:

1. Missing msvcr71.dll file. This is easily fixed: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 117&t=8700

2. When I tried to load EHM, I'd get an error saying "No restrictions - at least one of the days, executions or hours must be restricted 15". Unfortunately I never got round to fixing this before I uninstalled the consumer preview. The cause may well have been because I was running it as a virtual PC.

If you can get that far then you're on to a winner.

My EHM won't start suddenly.

I have tried to re-install, but everytime I try to launch it, nothing happens.

What to do?

Did it work before okay on Windows 8? Did you install anything since it last worked okay?

Try disabling your antivirus and firewall (you may want to disconnect from the internet first, to be safe). Some antivirus and firewalls are known to prevent EHM from running.

Did you run the patch installer using Run as Admin?

My EHM stopped working after I updated my antivirus (avast!) to the latest version. It just won't load at all. So I tried with uninstalling the antivirus, but the game still won't load. (Now I've installed avast! again). Does anyone know what to do?

I've had no problems with the game or the patch prior to this whatsoever.

Try disabling your firewall too. Firewalls and anti-virus software are often the cause of EHM suddenly refusing to load.

I have win8, and now I have avast! also. When I got this new laptop win8, EHM didn't start. I don't know how I fixed it, as I've tried so many things. But you can try right-clicking on the ehm2007.exe/preferences. And fill in the "always run as admin" or whatever it is called. That's how I keep it.

I've always played the game as admin since I started to use win8. Disabling the firewall does not help as well I'm afraid :(
When I try to start the game by using the CSD-patch I get this message:
"Loading EHM...
Please wait whilst EHM loads...
ERROR: EHM is not running. Patch aborted.
Patch failed.
1 error(s) and 0 warning(s) encountered."

If that helps in anyway.

All the CSD Patch is saying is that EHM isn't running at the point it tries to apply the patch.

Can you load EHM without using the patch?

I've fixed it. I uninstalled everything connected with EHM and erased all data-files, all tactics, saves etc (I saved some saves in a different folder). Then I installed the game again and it worked. Then I wanted my graphics back and downloaded pictures, logos and skins. And the game stopped working again. So I took away my downloaded skins and now the game works. So... a skin was my problem.

Silvergreyish or ehm12. Those were the two I downloaded.

I've had a similar problem earlier, a specific database wouldn't work for me so I deleted some other dbs that I never used and it started to work.
