Regen characteristics -- what are they, and what do they do?
Has anybody done a full listing of the mental characteristics that a regen can have, and does anyone know how they all effect the player's behavior?
Here is a list off the top of my head:
Determined / Low Determination -- self-explanatory.
Ordinary -- I suppose this is, too, especially since it always seems to appear as the only characteristic on a regen.
Loyal / Mercenary -- I *assume* a loyal player will stay with you for less, whereas a merc will demand premium while he's a RFA, and join the highest bidder once he gets UFA status. But how does Fickle enter into this? Is Fickle to Mercenary what Extremely Loyal is to Loyal or vice versa? Or is it the opposite of...
Professional -- I guess it's self-explanatory. I assume these guys will, among other things, not rock the boat and make better captains than the rest of us. But is there Unprofessional?
Weak / Strong Character -- More vs. less likely to have personal problems?
Poor Self-Belief -- Will see his morale plummet after one bad game? Won't get as big a morale boost from goals as others? Just a whiny little sod who can't perform in the play-offs?
Resilient -- Opposite of the previous?
(Very) Aggressive -- Easy, since (like Determined), it's directly tied to attributes.
Mellow -- Huh? No idea here... although I just realized it might be tied to low aggression ratings.
Relaxed -- Another question mark. More likable than most, perhaps?
Dour -- Saw this for the first time yesterday. No idea what it does; maybe make him a more likely candidate for the 'disliked staff' list? Or more likely to dislike someone?
Spineless -- To be frank, I'm not 100% sure this exists, but I think I saw this once. I don't know what it does, but it sure doesn't make me want to draft the guy.
Ambitious / Unambitious -- More/less likely to develop as a player, or just more/less likely to want to play for a winner and get upset if the team is in the bottom of the standings? Does not seem to be related to work rate.
Any others?

A couple more:
Honest -- Now, I'm sure this is a good attribute, but I just don't see myself signing some scrub just because I can trust him to confess when/if he cuts down my cherry tree.
Independent -- I don't have a clue. In fact, I'm not even 100% certain whether this is good (as in 'can deal with issues himself'), bad (either 'individualist' or 'loner', neither of which is all good in a team sport) or a mixed blessing. Might this be the opposite of Poor Self Belief?
Realist -- Again, a mystery. Perhaps this guy is less likely to complain about ice time if the players ahead of him on the depth chart are better. Does this have an opposite? Anybody seen Delusional?

Re: Regen characteristics -- what are they, and what do they
I think you've got most of them right. I think Mellow and Relaxed are different levels of the same thing but that's just a guess. Dour does seem to be a guy with a negative attitude. Spineless would seem to indicate that the guy is a coward. Maybe it's tied to bravery? I'd say a good example of "unambitious" would be Alexander Daigle. He's got the skills but he's not very ambitious. He never cared to use his gifts to the fullest. I think Resilient would have to do with how uncommon it is for a player to get injured. He can withstand a lot of punishment. I wonder if there is a "frail" trait?Kekkonen wrote:Has anybody done a full listing of the mental characteristics that a regen can have, and does anyone know how they all effect the player's behavior?

Good suggestion, except that the scouting report actually calls these 'Mental Characteristics'. The only thing you can judge their frailty by is their injury history (which I must confess I don't pay nearly enough attention to).bruins72 wrote:I think Resilient would have to do with how uncommon it is for a player to get injured. Looking at the 2014 draft pool in my game, I think you're right. For Mellow, you need to have 1 in Aggression. 5 or less gets you Relaxed.bruins72 wrote:I think Mellow and Relaxed are different levels of the same thing but that's just a guess.
A couple more characteristics:
Competitive -- I suppose this is good.
Slack -- Not related to work rate like you might think. I wonder if these guys make more than their share of bonehead errors.
Driven -- No idea about this.
Sporting -- Nor this, really. He is a good sport?
Casual -- Um...

I know I asked about this earlier, but I'm still a bit confused and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
You can view this when you scout players who aren't pro just yet? Such as going after OHL, QMJHL, and WHL players? Possibly college and anyone else who just isn't pro yet, right?
I thought that I saw extra stuff for those players who aren't pro yet when you scout them, but I haven't done that in my game yet and I did scouting projects a very long time ago and haven't since. So I can't really remember much, so if you could just let me know, I'd appreciate it.

This stuff only appears in the reports for REGENs. Those are players that are created based on players that have retired from hockey. A regen could be of an NHL all-star or it could be based on a guy that gave up hockey after juniors because he wasn't good enough. They usually don't show up for a couple of seasons.

You can't see these on real players -- those that are in the database at the start of a game. They only appear on regens, i.e. players generated by the game to replace retiring ones. I can only assume that the real players also do have these characteristics, but they can't be explicitly shown in the game, probably due to the NHL licence. (Similarly, when scouts go and take a look at a real player, they may come back impressed with his maturity, bravery, professionalism etc., but they never have anything bad to say. When they go and look at a regen, they may warn you that the player is lazy, unprofessional, or whatever.)
