Penner is going expensive! Just signed him to a 2-year contract worth 5,050,000 per season.

All his awards is starting to show on his paycheck.

After 19 1/2 years with the Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League. I finally got the chance to get my step into the NHL with the Maple Leafs firing their GM.

I got the job and pushed for a playoff run towards the end of the season, but even with going 13-2 after getting with the team.

It just wasn't good enough. We have a lot of things to work on and plenty of additions to get on this team to make it a number one contender.

Goaltending is my number one priority to fix.

i really wish i took some screenshots but i had one Quebec native player , Joe Maggio (lol) and i drafted him 3rd Overall as the Montreal Canadiens GM ( I was only allowing myself to draft french canadians and the odd euro for abit of added challenge

)

Anyways, this guy went to college and played 3 seasons before coming to my Club. He did so-so in his first 2 years in the ECAC and then lit it up in his 3rd year. Still he wasn't good enough for my big league team so he went down to the AHL Bulldogs for a season.

The next year i called him up as a depth player 3rd liner and he stayed there for 2 years playing okay but still not what was expected. So now my 22 year old, in his 3rd year with my team finnaly lit it up (and I almost traded him). Needless to say he had a spectacular career winning all types of trophies (including the Conn Smythe with 1 SCW) and only playing for my Montreal Canadiens taking a hometown discount every contract.

Now in his last years on my team he was stinking it up. 37 years old and just playing awful. The last 3 years i just kept him around for leadership but i finally thought it was time to move on (the classless way). He was still under contract you see for the next 2 seasons at 2-3 million per year.

I had alot of young soon-to-be superstars - or so i thought - and nobody wanted Maggio to trade so i put him on waivers - with no luck - sent him to the AHL and recalled him again instantly to the NHL ...still no takers. I ended up releasing him and a couple weeks later he was signed for 500,000 by the Calgary Flames. That was just before the trade deadline.

So my Montreal Canadiens did great in the playoffs making it to the Stanley Cup finals (our first appearence since Maggio almost single handedly won it for us about 8 years before). Guess who we were up against? The Calgary Flames...

Now Maggio didn't do anybetter with them then he did with us, especially in the playoffs. But he played every game as a 4th liner getting decent icetime. Now to speed up this story we ended up going to a game 7 - winner take all.

Game 7 was in Montreal, as we finished 1st overall and Calgary was 6th in their conference. We ending up going into double overtime and guess who got that winning goal!? Maggio. lol I couldn't believe it.

Just thought i'd share that story because it was truely amazing. You'd never get that in EAs game!

i'm playing the Coyotes, it's the 2018/19 season.
for ten years i've had a line of Hanzal-Mueller-Lisin. they started off small, but over the years they've advanced to starting line. Mueller and Lisin have won plenty of individual awards and they brought the Cup home four times. they aren't superstars, but they work very well together.

so this season, with Derek Morris being 39, i give the C to Mueller. he's earned it. it's going great, we're tearing through the opposition. three days before the trade deadline i get an email from Mueller. "Need new challenge. Trade me."

little ungrateful sh*t!

naturally i don't trade him, he's mad, i give the C to a rookie right winger, injuries on the team pile up and we miss the playoffs.

If I remember correctly, isn't that the only job in the NHL you wanted? (The Maple Leafs)

Thank you and yes that was the only job I was willing to take over in the NHL if it became available.

I had to wait quite awhile, but it finally opened up when they fired the old GM. I missed getting the team to the playoffs with the short amount of time we had when I joined the team.

But we won the cup in my first full season with the team and we got a stack of talent on the team for this year to push for another repeat.

Goaltending issue was fixed when I made a trade with Boston to get their number one guy on my team. Had to trade away some draft picks and a few players, but it was totally worth it in my opinion.

So I finally managed to be happy of my DB. So now I will start a game with my Quebec Nordiques ( Blue Jackets staff ).

I gave myself a couple of rules just to put challenge in the game. Now that I play a team in Qc I'll try to got at least 3 french canadians players in my team, maybe not in the first season though because I put trade restriction.

Like 1 trade to start the season ( with the team I got I need to clear cap space so nothing big gonna happen ) and 1 trade at the deadline. Only 1 waivers pickup but I can waive everyone I want.

I stayed with the original staff mostly, it's rare to see a new GM fired everyone downstairs.

I will at least playing 1-2 season before making decisions for the staff.

Finally draft 1 french Canadian player per draft even if every players sucks.

The full second season with the Maple Leafs started off great and then boom. My number one goaltender got hurt and was out for 4 months with the ACL tear.

I had to go and trade away some prospects and draft picks to the Penguins to grab their number one goaltender.

The only good thing about this is that now I have a giant one/two punch on all teams and my back up is basically good enough to be the number one guy.

Currently I am sitting pretty in the league and plan on making a big playoff push again.

I've finished my second with the Rangers. It ended up being the best I've ever done in the regular season with an NHL team. A first place finish in the east losing the presidents trophy by only one point to the Canucks. In the first year I finished twelfth.

With the season I had it gave me high hopes for the play offs. The best I'd ever done in the past is reach semi final in the east with the Rangers and the Capitals. The opponents were the Lightning we took a 3-1 lead in the series only for them to turn it round and beat us.

That's no fun to see that you are one of the top teams in the league at the end of the season and then to only head into the playoffs and not finish with the Stanley Cup in hand.

It seems like you definitely turned the team around to go from finishing 12th to 1st the next season.

I just finished my 3rd season with the Maple Leafs and we repeated as Stanley Cup champions this year. With the goaltender tandem that I have right now. It's hard for anyone to beat us.

I sure hope that both stay healthy for me and don't get hurt.

In Dec 4th 2011 my Oilers team really plays great! Made some changes that included letting some good players go to make room for youngsters, salary in the long-term and a couple of short-term solutions. Most of the current roster-players will move in the near future to develop a new young team.

Some significant roster players I got rid off:
- Oscar Möller
- Johan Harju (Needed salary room to get a center who actually could win draws!)
- Jeff Petry (Later picked up on waivers by me for the AHL)
- Denis Grebeshkov (I somewhat regret it, but new players are developing)
- Chris Stewart (Somehow his play just stagnated)
- Karol Krizan (My nr1 goalie who played very good but I wanted a change)
- Nick Tarnasky (my defensive 4th-line took a hit)
- Teemu Hartakainen (lost FO skill to waivers)
- Gilbert Brule (Lacked the space and lost him on waivers)

And brought in:
- Pavel Datsyuk (12g and 37a for 49p in 25 games, not bad for a 36 year old!)
- Marty Turco (At 39 he will give some extra time for my prospects to develop)
- Brandon Gormley (Pretty reliable young D, 3rd pair at the moment)
- Wayne Primeau (38 year old for depth and FOs on the 3rd line)

My rooster looks like (click-able!):

Nice team!

I have Victor Mangs playing on my Baie-Comeau challenge team and he's a great player!

On a side note, I'm not a big fan of playing 19-20 year olds though. Also, I think Colin Wilson is a waste on the 4th Line. (but it's your game and you're doing great! )

Mångs started out well this season but sadly lost his game after a while. As I'm almost killed salary-wise this season, my choices were reduced to test Stone (who was the most NHL-ready one). His first games were 8's and 9's, but as you can see he lost it too. Mångs will be called up when he finds his game again.

Hillier and Brown outplayed my experienced players and the ones on try-out, in my expensive team they simply were the only options. The quick fixes were brought in to keep the pressure off my other prospects.

Colin IS a waste down there, but the only one that got decent ratings down there. My 4th line is matched to played against the oppositions 1st line and therefore I needed a strong FO guy so he was bumped from the second LW. I think you understand my problem as I really don't feel like letting him go as long as he's happy and plays well. He will center one of the top lines in a near future as Horcoff and Datsuyk starts to grow gray hair.

Somehow my team got over-stacked and I'm just waiting for my other prospects to develop in the minors.

I finally started a dynasty that I am going to stick with, using the original database (I just can't get past losing 3-4 years of a guys history, like Datsyuk and Zetterberg).

I won the Cup my first year:

I am now working on my second season after a pretty good draft and some shrewd trades. After trading for Bertuzzi in my first season, I had to let him walk on July 1 because he wanted almost $6mil/year

I just finished up my full 3rd season with the Maple Leafs and brought home the Stanley Cup again for the 3rd time in a row.

We are going to be in a bit of a pickle this year as I am having to get about 3/4 of my roster back on board for many more years to come and it isn't easy because some of my younger players are asking for more money.

Which makes sense because they have played great and helped out so much in the year to year Stanley Cup runs.

When I first started with the Maple Leafs. They stated that another player from a separate team would be a valuable team player.

Kind of felt like they were saying trade away players to get him, but when that other player is getting $7.5 million per year.

I'll pass on that trip.
