Thanks much for the feedback Manimal!

archibalduk wrote:For EHM 2004 (and I think also for 2005) there was a brilliant mini wall chart that explained each of the playable leagues and how they were structured (e.g. age limits, promotion/relegation etc).
That sounds cool! I just bought/recieved a sealed new copy of EHM 2005 and there's a great manual/booklet but no chart..... I guess 2004 was the only one with the chart

THANK YOU very much SharksAttack!
Do you know off hand how many of these leagues are "in game" already? I've noticed U20 and above in-game...

Does anyone know if Sweden/Czech Republic/Russia are similar to Finland in the sense of using "letters" to designate the lower age groups/leagues? Seems like a simple/workable methodology I could use...

"PROGRESS REPORT"
Haven't worked on 1974 db in days (doing other things), but will be returning to work on it ASAP

2. div. (Fin-4), 3. div (Fin-5) and A-Juniors (FinJr) are non-playable leagues

Here is what I know of juniors in Sweden:

J20 SuperElit, J20 Elit, J20 Lower
J18 Elit, J18 Lower
U16

The Under-16 is not in the db. The others are non-playable leagues.
Teams in Sweden are affiliated so most have the same organization. The adult team loans to the J20, J20 loans to J18 and J18 loans to U16 if possible

I don't know how it's called for even younger players. I beleive in U16, player are from 14years and up

Thanks so much to SharksAttack/Manimal for the knowledge on parts of the hockey world I know to little about. You've helped me a great deal

Any wisdom from anyone on the Czech or (especially) Russian hockey world?

Try sending a PM to Weissy(SVK,CZE) and Stastny26(RUS). They are the guys updating those leagues for the roster update and I think they'll have the knowledge you'd be looking for

Thanks Manimal!

I`ve finished the couple projects I`ve been working on lately and I`m back woking in the 1974 db!
I expect next month to release a `saved game test version` so that I can hopefully get some confirmation on functionality and some feedback on playability

If you think you're interested in trying the upcoming "saved game test version" and willing to provide some feedback.....can you tell me what team you'll likely choose to be?

Some things like "team staff" will be functional for all teams but not yet fully edited (names/attributes)...if I know where to focus a bit more attentiion I will if I can

Thank You

You can count me in for sure, I would definetely be interested in playing, and hopefully helping.

Any Canadian team will do for me. WHA if possible. Junior hockey is also a go for me.

Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Cowboys, Winnipeg Jets and the Quebec Nordiques are all Canadian/"WHA" teams....do you have a preference?

Excellent! Any particuular team?
I'm simply not going to have the time to do everthing for every team at this time...if I know someone's willing to provide feedback and I know they're interested in a particular team, I can try harder to address as much as possible for that team (buget, arena, staff, colours, affiliations,, etc)

Excellent! Again if I know a team it helps a lot! There's just so much detail to cover

This is really exciting! =D> I'll put myself down for a WHA team too. Could I test the Nordiques if at all possible please?

P.s. I'll be working on the logopack this weekend.

Nino - I've created logo packs for the OHL and AHL (other than the Syracuse Eagles which you mentioned you may not use - let me know if you do end up using them). I'll work on the WHL and hope to have them completed within the next few days (hopefully tomorrow).

Being such old teams, the source logos are fairly low quality. I've done my best to touch them up (I even went so far as to re-paint a few of them) but there's only so much that can be done with them. Hopefully they'll be good enough for our purposes though.

I'll email them to you when they're complete.

Sounds good!

I've just completed the changes in the db for all the AHL teams you've now done the logos for (Thank You), and I'm currently looking at the remaining modern AHL teams and determing the additional changes I'll be making.
All WHL and OHL team changes are already completed in the db; still need to complete QMJHL changes

Progress on the db (in preperations for a September saved game test release) is going well; one of the exciting things I've been working on is adding historical Czech stars of the era to go with the historical stars from Sweden, Finland and Russia

1974 DB HIATUS

I am taking a break from the 1974 db with no intention of even looking at it anytime soon (perhaps a Christmas release?).

Reasons…My summer holidays are over now, and my recently started new job takes more of my time/energy than my old job, the task is huge and working on the db is simply not fun anymore, it’s stress inducing, not stress reducing…..

I’ve only ever played one complete season of EHM, last Dallas Stars challenge (and then the editing “snatched me back”), and I would like to maybe take part in the Nordiques challenge…..and I only just “discovered” the UUDB recently, and I love the idea (the “historical depth” of 2006-11) - I want to play some EHM…

My apologies for any disappointment

Re: 1974 db - Mario Lemieux as an 8 year old

Post by nino33 »

At the start of July I bought a new computer and began posting about my 1974 db.
I had already put over 1000 hours into my db, and I anticipated a summer release.
At the end of July when I encountered some minor problems editing teams, I also lost all the work I had done in July (about 300 hours!);
at the time I said "I must have accidently deleted the back-up db" but I knew I had not - I knew the data had simply disappeared

So I worked throughout August and spent about 200 hours redoing most of the editing I had done in July (the data that had disappeared);
and over this last weekend, when i again encountered some minor problems editing teams, I NOTICED I'VE AGAIN LOST ALL MY WORK!

This time I've figured out "why".....

My new computer has Windows 7, and if you don't "Run as Administrator" when using the Pre-Game Editor NOTHING YOU DO REALY SAVES! It looks like it saves...it shows up again in the Pre-Game Editor, you can use the edited db to test/play EHM as long as the db remains in the original file folder, but as soon as you move the db (into a "saved DBs" folDer in My Documents, or onto a memory stick, or you zip the file and try to email it...if when using the Editor you did not "Run as Administrator", then as soon as you move the db out of the original folder all the data reverts back to what it was before your edits - EVERYTHING I HAVE DONE OVER THE LAST TWO MONTHS IS GONE! I lost it all (twice)....

Everytime I made a back-up/save I would add the date/time to the db name and then move it out of the SI folder into a "Saved DBs" folder in My Documents.
This act of moving the db out of it's original folder stripped the db of all my edits!!! Everytime I thought I was saving acopy...I wasn't

Thanks much to Archi for all his support as I've struggled through figuring this out.....I was begining to think I was going nuts.

So the bad news is I've lost EVERYTHING I've done since the start of the summer (makes me want to cry if I think about it to much) - the clearing of all the NHL players stats, correcting age and team/league for hundreds of players. editing hundreds and hundreds of European/Russian players, editing/placing complete staffs for all NHL teams, creating/placing hundreds of AHL players, creating Bantam/Midget leagues/teams, creating more "youth" to populate the newly created "minor hockey leagues". renaming the WHL, renaming the OHL, and the QMJHL, and the AHL.....all this is gone!

The good news is I had been working on the db for a year by the start of this summer, so I still want to complete it (despite this summer of awfulness).
I now remove the db from the SI folder path and save it on my desktop when editing, and now I ALWAYS right-click on the Editor shortcut and select "Run as Administrator" when using the Editor - I have done a test edit and sent the db to Archi and he sees the edits too!!!

So now that I'm back to work (I have summers off) I have no idea how long it will take me to redo for the third time all the work needed to make the 1974 db playable.....but I'm working on it!

Not to worry Nino, completely understand where you are coming from.

That is awful, just plain awful about the loss of edits, doing what you've done is very time consuming, and can be a real pain in the butt, and to have to redo it is painful to even think about. Although most of us are highly anticipating the release, anyone who's done any work on a DB will feel for ya. Hope your new work is great for you, and that you can enjoy EHM like the rest of us, and good luck on completing the DB in the future!!!

I feel bad -- I found this out the hard way back a few months ago myself when I migrated from a WinXP box I'd used for the past 9 years, to Win7. I assumed it was just me being stupid and failing to think about it in the grand scheme of things.

But I feel bad 'cause I guess I could have posted something here about it when I ran into it and saved you a couple months of headaches. I didn't. Sorry to indirectly contribute to your headache, nino...

My "break" was based on my db saving problems....within minutes of "solving" the problem (and testing the solution!) I was back working on the db.....hopefully the "test save version" will be ready in late September/early October.

A lot of my long winded explanations have been written/posted for this reason...for the handful of us that find such information so valuable...

Have to go to work!

Regards

EDIT – It’s now Sunday night, and I just wanted to add that progress is (again) being made!…..a lot of the Russian player editing has been done, some of the Swedish player editing has been done, and this weekend all of the WHL/OHL/QMJHL team changes have been completed, including the movement of players (31 historical teams have been returned to Major Junior play)

It's been a couple weeks since my last post (when I discovered why I'd lost all the editing work I'd done in July/August), so I thought I'd post again to say I've been getting a couple/few hours of editing done most every day; currently working on removing all modern players with a CA/PA 101-200

I've also done some of the team name editing (WHL/OHL/QMJHL are done, AHL still to be done), as well as adding additional historical international players and editing historical international players so they don't recieve an NHL Release Clause.....these tasks are "in-progress"

AND I still need to add Staff to NHL teams (I manually made all NHL Staff Free Agents over six months ago), and I need to add historical NHL Referees (with edited Attributes), as well as ensure the Player Info (stats) are correct for historical NHL players, and I need to add historical AHL players
[I do have all the data "ready for input" on paper or in spreadsheets]

ALSO I'll be looking to edit team/league history when I edit the Extra Config File...

When all this is done I'll be (again) looking to release a "saved game test version" in order to recieve some feedback

Regards :-)
