Original TBL database

Post by gazzw87 »

Does anybody still play with just this DB? or even just the actual game database?...

Just curious as I personally can only play the game with the TBL database. The one I mean was release a few years ago and all it does is unfake the database, nothing else changes. I've played with one of the Lidas DB about 2 seasons ago, while it was interesting to play more upto date, certain things that the game still doesn't allow because of the 'hardcoding' really bugs me so I can't use them :\ Although I do appreciate the effort and work the guys put into the updating to keep it fresh for all who enjoy it!

Reason I decided to ask is I been reading through the OOTPD Hockey forum again, counting down the hours till it's released or there are screenshots to see what we're getting and it's got me in the EHM mood! Another thing with regards to playing EHM is I can only ever play if I start as Unemployed and Rec Player! It annoys me alittle but if I started as say Boston Bruins I feel like ive cheated the game [-X ... each to their own style ofcourse, just sharing mine!

Out of curiosity, which hardcoded bits bother you?

It sounds petty but the main one at the time, since I was playing as Manchester Phoenix in the EPL with Lidas update.. They still have to be schduled for the Elite league Cup so you end up playing Belfast Giants randomly every now and they during your season!.. Obviously the main issues like the rules of the leagues, alignment of them and whatnot to keep upto date meant doing things like dropping loads of teams in the 'A-Minor League', again petty but when it's happened in my mind it's not 'real' and puts me off using the edited databases.

No it's not petty; it's perfectly understandable. I think all of us here would love to be able to update the league rules and structures. Altering league rules is feasible but I'm not sure about league structures unfortunately.

You might want to check out the Updated Unfaking Database which is basically an update of the original EHM 2007 rosters. If I remember rightly, the rosters haven't been changed (other than to correct mistakes) but incorrect data has been corrected and also attributes have been updated (but they are updated to reflect players' abilities as of 2006/07).

Thanks Archi for the info there. I've played with the database you suggested a few times before but ultimately I prefer the original TBL database! It's still a great game no matter how out of date the rosters or teams in certain leagues are. Obviously the new OOTP hockey will be a nice refreshment let's just hope it's the new era of 'ehm' we have all been waiting for!
