Tentative feature list announced

Post by archibalduk »

Today OOTP announced an initial feature list for FHM 2013. Keep in mind that this is still an initial list and things may change:
  • Windows and Mac support
  • Two game modes: Modern and Historical
  • 2012-13 game start with these playable leagues: NHL, AHL, ECHL, QMJHL, WHL, OHL, KHL, DEL, Elitserien and EIHL
  • Over 1,000 teams, comprising nearly 100 leagues, that are non-playable but are stocked with real players
  • Start any NHL season from 1947-48 through today, with players appearing on their actual teams or in a draft
  • Real stats, finances, and rules
  • Detailed player model with over 30 skills in 5 main categories
  • Trades, player transfers, RFA/UFA signings, and more
  • Set lines and tactics and make changes on the fly during games that feature a huge, editable play-by-play database
  • News engine featuring a database packed with thousands of articles
  • Stat keeping, including CORSI and Fenwick
  • Almost everything is editable, from logos and colors to data to league rules and more
  • Fantasy draft
  • The OOTP Devs are thinking about a second fantasy draft for player rights but that's just an idea on paper right now
  • Expansion draft - You can move teams, "delete" them or add new teams, player from deleted teams become FAs, if you add new teams you can hold an expansion draft (existing teams can protect player). All this is possible before any season you want.

I've added some additional details regarding the draft features:
  • Fantasy draft
  • The OOTP Devs are thinking about a second fantasy draft for player rights but that's just an idea on paper right now
  • Expansion draft - You can move teams, "delete" them or add new teams, player from deleted teams become FAs, if you add new teams you can hold an expansion draft (existing teams can protect player). All this is possible before any season you want.

I'm assuming this is all offseason only?

Some may think it dumb, but it might be useful if you're playing in the minor pros and could have teams fold midseason (because that actually happens, quite often). So when ECHL Elmira, say, financially is just bombing (like they are in real life right now), you can just finally put them out of their misery

Or maybe that's just me...

I haven't seen the feature in action, but I read it as being an off-season thing only. It would however be neat if you could fold teams mid-season like you suggest. I'll raise this with OOTP once I've seen the feature work for myself.

I really just can't wait, from the Q to the NHL again... With the possibilities to see team closing up if they are doing too bad... Wow! And that's the first version? And with this community modding and making the game X10 times bigger! Can't wait!

I can't wait for this game! I'm especially excited about the addition of CORSI and Fenwick stats. Although I personally think people place too much importance on advanced stats in real life, they should come in very handy in the context of a sports management sim. The more stats the better.

The ability to add or remove teams between seasons sounds great as well.
