Ted NolAN? Really? Blast from the past. What most of the media is not seeing though is that he is INTERIM head coach. He will coach to end of season, and the new GM whoever it may be will be hiring the new coach.
BRian Burke in Buffalo? LOL.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
darn Kadri is a dirty player. Really ugly "hit" on N.Bäcsktröm. Funny that he didn't get more penalty of that hit (I'd suspend him 10 games!), but later in the game hit Granlund he got the shower. He probably hates Finns?

That hit on Backstrom was freaking stupid. He tried to make it look like he got pushed but we can clearly see that he never try to stop.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
2 games tops for hit on Backstrom. Nothing for hit on Granlund. Missed the head. Was a bad call by ref to call that a match penalty. Only reason he did is that there is no 5 min major for hit to head. And ref was wrong on that---missed the head. It was purely a makeup for the bad call on a 2 min goalie interference for hit on Backstrom. Deserves a couple games for hit on Backstrom.
I hate the Leafs....but Kadri is NOT a dirty player. He plays hard, competes hard and makes a mistake here and there. Last night on the edge definitely made at least one. The Granlund hit is not perfectly clean, but neither is it dirty. The hit on Backstrom? That can happen to anyone who goes hard to the net.
Now...Joffrey Lupul on Sedin and missing with chicken wing and hitting Kadri in the jaw. That was dirty. And darn funny since Henrik got out of the way. Can you imagine if Kadri had gone down in that game as well as Bolland....already without Bozak...wow McClement on the first line. LOL

Exactly what I thought. But anyway it's stupid that they "makeup" for their mistakes like that.batdad wrote:It was purely a makeup for the bad call on a 2 min goalie interference for hit on Backstrom.

In hockey it's usually that if one team takes penalties a lot, then the other team automatically gets a penalty sooner or later just to "level" the game.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
You could not give the Granlund hit 5 min. There is no 5 min penalty for what occured there. It was a clean hit, save that the ref thought there was head contact. And since no 5 Min PM available for head contact...what to do? Right....a match.

To me he clearly make it look like he gut pushed. He didn't event tried to stop at all. At least the hit would've been okay.batdad wrote:The hit on Backstrom? That can happen to anyone who goes hard to the net.
Edit: 3 games for Kadri.

Yeah I had that reaction too haha They have cap space for him? Anyway, I hope for Versteeg that his performances will get back on track with them.
Also, Seguin and Benn, wow. Best duo in the NHL right now? Sure is IMO.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
Florida paying 1/2 Versteeg salary. Perfect for Chicago. Gave up two guys who would not see much time for them, and got a player who they know will contribute, and know exactly what that contribution will be. Steeger is a good solid hardworking Adam Oates disturber, who can score occasionally. Play him with Toews and Kane, and he scores a ton. Allows them to have two high powered offensive lines if they want, which will both have incredibly high defensive moral compasses. With Toews, Steeger, Hossa.....Hawks own zone play in the top 6 group is almost better if not better than any team in the league. Plus..they all score.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
What was the point in that for Florida? The only thing I see is that Versteeg had a good salary they got rid of. Other than that, it was a very bad trade for them.batdad wrote:Florida paying 1/2 Versteeg salary. Perfect for Chicago. Ovechkin Bäckström & Stamkos St. Louis... might be better!?. Well trading Seguin to Dallas looks like it was a good trade, works good there in the first line.philou21 wrote:Also, Seguin and Benn, wow. Best duo in the NHL right now? Sure is IMO.

Ovy/Backstrom is always good. Stamkos/St.Louis too but for a couple of months it will be...well, nonexistent.
They're all good duo but those two killed it yesterday!

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
They don't have much of anything else except a goalie at the moment but... umm, hello, Datsyuk/Zetterberg. Babcock seems to have given up on the idea of splitting them finally so... might be interesting to see where that goes. Zetterberg is on course for his best season in 4 or 5 years right now.jhcjobpb wrote:Ovechkin Bäckström & Stamkos St. Louis... might be better!?.philou21 wrote:Also, Seguin and Benn, wow. Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
OVi_Backstrom is out for me. No chance when you suck in the playoffs. Crosby-Malkin out for me as Malkin not been playing well. Stamkos-anyone out for me as Stamkos is not playing. Sedin-Sedin out for me as well ..... Canucks.
Datsyuk-Zetterberg outstanding
Benn-Seguin outstanding.
But...there is at least one pair missing right now....
Kane-Toews. These two are AMAZING together, and they both make the team better. Kane is growing up and acting almost human, and the two are playing some great hockey both with each other and without each other.
Alex Steen -David Backes (or Oshie, or Pietrangleo)
Duchesne-Stastny (Landeskog)
Parise-Pomminville
Also, you really have to consider Getzlaf-Perry in this group as well...
Oh and Luongo er Brodeur - Schneider.
The best duo at this point has to be from the west. The third best team in the East would not make the playoffs in the West. The Vancouver Canucks who currently would be out of the playoffs would be 2nd in the east.
Great line this morning on radio talk show about nicknames in the NHL. Marty McSorley outed a classic. Some guy named Brent or Brett Thompson-who apparently is now an AC in the NHL was a player with Marty in LA. He got the nickname "Two People"....DO you know why?
Because there is no way one person could be that stupid. LOL
NHL duos right now
1. Toews-Kane (or Keith)
2. Getzlaf-Perry
3. Datsyuk-Zetterberg
4. Benn-Seguin
5. Crosby-anyone else on the Penguins
6. Backes-Steen
7. Thornton-Hertl
8. Ovi-Backstrom
9 Sedin-Sedin
10. Duchene-Stastny
HM--Krejci-Iginla (or Lucic), Kessel-Lupul, Parise-Pomminville, Richards-Kopitar
Thinking a bit about history, a bit about RIGHT now, and a bit about team success...that is how I see it.
And as for the Versteeg deal...Olsen is supposedly a pretty solid prospect, although I am not so sure.

I assumed we were talking about active duos playing on the same line regularly together. Last I knew, Kane & Toews weren't. Are they now this season? Wasn't Hossa playing with Toews and Kane with Sharp?batdad wrote:Crosby-Malkin out for me as Malkin not been playing well.

Same for Crosby-Malkin, when did they start playing on the same line?

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
Kane always get some time with Toews. Not all the time, but some.
Crosby and Malkin get put together just about every game somewhere along the way, especially when the game is close.
I know they are not always together, but no one is. Coaches break stuff up all the time. Even the twins.
