Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Suspension of Buffy was not enough I agree. But the non suspension on Toffoli was worse than that, and even the non suspension on Burrows was not that good.
Toffoli was a 5 gamer, Buffy was at worst a 5 gamer (end of reg season...as it is now he gets to come back in a game that could decide the fate of 2 of three teams vs Calgary) That is bad. Bad bad. There are already stories out there that Calgary and Winnipeg if they both need a point will purposely play for a tie and shootout game to keep the Kings out. This fixing of that by allowing Buffy to play in that game and help the Jets....does not look good, even though I am NOT a conspiracy guy.
Peter is not the only guy widdled about this...a ton of people in the NHL and media are. Ray Ferraro went ape Adam Oates on the radio yesterday about it in Vancouver. God Cannot believe I am defending a guy who thinks RObin Lehner is gonna be a stud (What will we call him now...Vegetable burger? LOL) and that some good skating dman on Calgary is a top 10 dman in the NHL.

I agree completely batdad, the problem with DoPS is so much bigger then just this Buf thing... They are just too lenient and inconsistent overall... I'm just beating on the Buf drum because i actually saw that live and that was vicious, the most vicious thing since Thornton and he gets 4 games, ridiculous... Tanner Glass got a bloody fine for a butt end, he should have gotten a few games, Toffoli and Burrows both should have had several games...

Buffy should get a longer suspension, in worst case scenario he could have broken Miller's neck.

The DoPS will always have haters, no matter who's the player. The suspension always is too long or too short, based on who you're asking, right? The DoPS should base their suspensions on facts, not on 'what could have happened' or 'it looked real bad'. Buf made a crosscheck, hence the 5 game suspension.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
The DoPS have to weigh in intent, how dangerous the play was etc... can't just base the suspension on whether the victim was injured or not since that is usually more or less luck based... How dangerous the tackle is seldom reflects how injured the other guy was... This was one the most vicious "hit" since Thornton slammed Orpiks head to the ice and it should have given a suspension that matched how dangerous it was...Satyr wrote:The DoPS will always have haters, no matter who's the player. "The Suspension always is too long or too short" That's not really the case for DoPS, i almost only hear from other fans that they think DoPS is too lenient, almost never hear that they were too tough on a guy...

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Not the issue here Satyr. The isssue is DoPS is not in any way CONSISTENT in what they do. I could care less who a player plays for, and who the injured and dirty players are.
YOU HAVE TO GET SOME CONSISTENT guidelines, and quite honestly....the penalties are NEVER HIGH ENOUGH. Players need to miss more than 1 game or 2 games and lose 1 or 2/82nds of their freaking salaries.
The DoPS is too much into the grey areas of judging what happened on a play. They need to deal only in black and white. Avoid looking at whether someone was injured, whether the game was tight and there was a 5 min penalty assessed with a tossing....
A dirty play is a dirty play. Needs to be dealt with in the same fashion. Not depending on who the hittee was, who the hitter was and the result of the hit or play and the game.

Do you think the NHLPA would go for this? I don'tbatdad wrote:the penalties are NEVER HIGH ENOUGH. I don't disagree with the sentiments being discussed, but I think it's easy to blame the league and/or the owners. IMO if the players wanted something done (i.e. longer suspensions/higher fines) it'd be done by now

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
The league needs to start somewhere and that is to not be so bloody scared of the NHLPA. The NHLPA needs to start realizing they need to protect their players from injury not from a few $ lost in the salaries. They for god sake are a union and need to look out for the safety of the players. Both sides are idiotic not just one side.

Easy? Last time I check at the beginning of the season they weren't looking like a contender team at all.
Nice to see they stepped up their game at the right time though.

Vigneault should win Jack Adams is all i have to say about it really, he's made an amazing job this season through some pretty badly timed injuries on key players...

Last night was extremely painful. Being a Penguins fan in the Ottawa region is usually a real delight when the team meets. It was last night, for the first 20 minutes...
Even if they make the playoffs, there is no way they are going far. Not when you are missing 3/4 of your top 4 on defence.

Vigneault as Adams? Are you kidding me really? With what has happened in
1. Nashville
2. Calgary
3. Ottawa (look at CAmeron record since firing of what;s his name)
4. Winterpeg
5. Vancouver
And I love how there are so many people out there celebrating that AV has won what his 5th President's Trophy? Hall of Fame for people who do all their work in school and go into the final exam with an A and then fail the final exam?
Same people cheering on his 5th P.T. ....who constantly harped on the Canucks that they could only win and would choke in the playoffs. Same thing for the Rags is gonna happen.
They play in the WEAK EASTERN CONFERENCE...quite frankly .... the horrible eastern conference, and they will barely if they do get out of it and get slaughtered by whoever they play in the west.
AV for choker of the year again?
PS I happen to love AV, just growing real tired of the two faces of the clowns out there who celebrate the Pres Trophy when their favorite team wins it, and slam the rubbish out of it when others do.

If the Flames makes the playoff, Bob Hartley is the one that deserves the Jack Adams. No questions asked.

batdad - Weak Eastern, really? have you been under a rock this season? East is not weaker then West this season, it has been the case for a few years but not this season... AV has 3 Presidents Trophies if i'm not mistaken and yes, he deserves serious considerations for Jack Adams and i think he deserves it, if you don't then fine but if you can't acknowledge that he's in contention then you are just biased against him. I would say that AV, Laviolette and Hartley are the most probable Jack Adams nominees and for me AV should win it, we'll see if he does in June... Big strong West whom Rangers went 18-5-5 against?
Swept both California and Western Canada in our roadtrips, thats the West ur talking about?
"Rags" Why use such a condesending word instead of writing NYR or Rangers? Oh and im not one of those two faces clowns either, i have always thought that winning the Presidents Trophy is a big ackomplishment and have never "slam the rubbish out of it"...

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Except the Rangers and maybe Tampa the East is kinda "weak" yes. Montreal without Price = 12-13th place easily. Detroit got all sort of problems this year again. Boston too (injuries yeah) Washington is Ovy and Backstrom only BUT I'm curious to see what Trozt might bring to them for the playoffs. Islanders are good but not playoffs material yet except if Halak is as good as in 09 with MTL. Pittsburgh is average too (lots of injuries too). Ottawa works hard but let's be honest they are not fit for the playoffs at all. The rest well, they're not qualified for a reason.
When a team like Colorado in the west with 86 pts is #13th, darn, the west is indeed strong!
But if a team in the East goes well in the finale it will be because of their goalie most likely IMO.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Bull... East is on par with West this season... If we go by the same logic for the west philou, only Anaheim, STL and Chicago are strong and Chicago wont do anything without Kane and Boudreau and STL are chokers, who is left then? Nashville is even worse without Rinne then Habs is without Price, Wild is relying on a goalie which until Januari was seen as one of the worst goalies in the league, Vancouver are weak and known for choking, Flames and Jets have nice projects but have a few years to go before real contention i think and Kings might not even get into playoffs...
You can bend on it how you want, truth is that the conferences are really close now... I clearly went to extremes which you also did, truth is in the middle...
Central is clearly the strongest division, but at the same time Pacific has been the weakes division this season so it evens out.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Horrible eastern. Mistake prone disgusting pansy hockey. Not biased against him. I like him. Just do not think with what he has for a roster that he even has to coach in that conference.
The west has DOMINATED the East. There are exactly two western teams under 500 against eastern teams, so maybe it is not me under the rock?
Arizona is 10-19-3 and San Jose is 13-15-4
The rest of the teams in the West are at least 500, only one team is actually at 500. There are 8 teams at least 5 games better than 500 against the east in the West. 4 tea,s (Chicago, Nashville, Vancouver and St Louis) are over 10 games above 500 against the East
EASTERN TEAMS COULD NOT EVEN GO 500 against the EDMONTON FREAKING OILERS.
This does not mean there are not good teams in the East, and it does not mean that the Rags are not good, and did not do well. But fact remains...they would do well without a coach. Not AV as coach of year. Is he in the top 3 --not in my opinion and may barely make top 5.
And if you read below...clear the east sucks against the west overall which is what I said. So the living under a rock comment is sad and a personal attack that is without merit completely and you need to wake up and smell the coffee. I apologize that the western teams play after your 700 Eastern time bedtime, but have a look and not just focus on one thing. (So yeah...attack you back because I am mature)
The fact that you do not know that worries me Peter. Have a look at NHL.com stats. The numbers make it very clear.
Western record vs East overall
OVERALL 237-164-44 LOOKS PRETTY DARN DOMINANT even when you count in the 44 games that were OT/SO between the two conferences.
COach of the year in the NHL to me without question this year is BOB HARTLEy. AV is good, but no comparison in terms of what the coach has done with what he has.
Rags are 18-5-5 vs west. Cool. But here is the thing...4 Western teams have over 20 wins against teams from the east. LOL.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Your numbers are skewed because of the 4 super pants teams in the East compared to the 2 super pants teams in the West... top-12 in East is very even with the top-12 in the West... So no, West has not dominated East... 176-111-49 These are the numbers for top-12 East teams against West, remove the 2 pants teams in the West and we are very close to .500 between East and West....
West also plays more games against East then vice versa since East has 2 more teams... So that would explain how the teams in West have more wins over East then Rangers have over West teams... So yeah, LOL at that
If Rangers played 32 games against West they would on average have 20.48 Wins, but maybe thats not over 20 either?
The under a rock comment was not meant as an attack either, just that i think ur comment about East being really bad was stupid
