I've messaged Archi a week ago about this, but he's probably very busy these days. So do you think I should release a "v0.9" of this database now even though there are those errors? The database is playable now, but still has a lot of things that needs fixing.
Yes please!!

Have you tried the 'Database Optimization' in the EHM Updater?
I think that should help you out

Yes I did that last week, nino suggested that too but it didn't help. :-( Maybe I'll try that again, just to be sure it doesn't work.

I was thinking here... about Pat LaFontaine! :-D He played his last game in season 97/98. BUT he officially retired in October 1999. So basically I should have him in this database right? So should I have him in Rangers with a long injury at the beginning of the game (he may retire automatically, or he might continue his career after that)

Hi CJ,

If you're looking for other opinions, I for one agree that you should release it.

From what I've read in some of your recent posts, the sort of things you're addressing right now appear to be relatively minor in nature. I know you want the database to be as perfect as possible before you release it, but the one thing I've learned from my day job about software is that it will NEVER be perfect.

Some of us (well, myself anyway) can accept that there may be a few funnies in there. Who knows, that may even add to the fun of it! Besides, once you release it, there will be lot more pairs of eyes that will find a few inaccuracies and suggest improvements to you. The more people that test it, the more feedback you'll get.

It's true there may be some people who will prefer to wait until you officially release version 1.0. That's fine, they can still do that. In fact, if people do find things in version "0.9", you can fix them in 1.0 and make it even better when you do release it.

Taking a step back, you've really accomplished a lot in the last few months you've been working on this. You should be very proud. We are truly grateful for all the time and energy you've put into this. Speaking personally, I would love to try it sooner rather than later.

My suggestion is to take a long hard look at the things on your "to fix" list, and decide if there's anything that really MUST be fixed right now, i.e. are there any real absolute "showstoppers" on it. If not, please release it. We've waited a long time to share your wonderful creation with us.

Looking forward to it!

Cheers,

Glenn

Hello Glenn! :-)

Thank you for your post! Now as I've thought about it, I think I'll release the first version tomorrow. :-) And no I'm not seeking perfection in this database as that will never happen, that would take ages. My priority is to make the NHL work nicelly from 1998 to this date.
Users may be able to play at least 3 seasons without any mysterious player errors and such. Things beyond that, I have no idea how to drafts look like. :-D

This topic now belongs to Lazion again. :-D I will release my version of this database now, and I'll create my own topic for it.
Anything that has to do with my version discuss it here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 34#p162434
