Just me or is EHM getting slower/harder to load?

Prior to the development of Eastside Hockey Manager by SI Games, the game was a one-man freeware project by Risto Remes. This forum is the place to discuss any aspects relating to the freeware edition.

I haven't played EHM regularly in a couple years. It's partly because any time I try to get back into it, the game either stops responding when I open it, or it sims as slow as molasses. Is this an EHM issue? Because I used to run it on this same laptop with no problem.

If you are in fact referring to the freeware version, yes modern operating systems have oddly enough slowed it down/added problems.

Under Windows 10, v1.18 is the only one that can run without crashing, but it runs very slowly (even slower than it used to IMO). I suspect it has something to do with the limitations of the VB basis Riz used and Windows 10 itself. The VB libraries EHM needs are probably so legacy now that it takes Win10 more effort to run it.

I used to still constantly be running freeware saves/games, but lately, I haven't basically at all because v1.18 is slow and it does a terrible job generating new prospects (but you have no choice because 1.15 and 1.16 will just crash every time). It just takes too long and is too much effort. Part of the charm of the freeware for me was that I could absolutely blow through entire seasons, sometimes several in an evening. Now though, having to use 1.18, it takes too long and I constantly have to go back into draft classes and fix a good chunk of it so that the players don't suck. It's just ultimately too much effort and I end up playing EHM 1 instead when I get the bug to play, because if it's going to take so long it may as well have more detail.

If you haven't changed operating systems or something like that though, you shouldn't be seeing much of a change in performance. I'm not sure what might be causing problems outside of Windows 10.

OK, it seems to be working fine now (1.16, btw, though I haven't tried any simming).

Fixed the loading issue by running it as administrator.
