Try this program: http://www.extractnow.com/

It's free, simple and I've had no problems using it for RARs or ZIPs.

You get an error message that says "Error, can't extract." while using Extract Now?

With the program open, click on the Settings Tab. Make sure you set the Destionation to somewhere you can find it. The Desktop is a good spot.

Then apply your settings and drag the .zip or .rar file into the main window of the program. On the right hand side, there is an extract button. Click that and the file will be extracted to the location you specified in the Settings Tab.

Cool? 8-)
