I made a trade recently that ended up giving me Bobby Ryan. I gave the Stars my 7th Rounder of the 2007 season and then my 7th Rounder of the 2008 season.

In my opinion, they got ripped off.

Same for Marc Staal (NYR) and Ryan O'Marra (NYI, faked as Peter MacKie).

holydogg: you mean the 3.0.4? If yes, Marc Staal is still easy to acquire

Oh, not for cheap as two 7 round-picks, and rarely at the start of the season, but i never had any problem to agree on a deal with the Rags, usually with a decent deal, often slightly in my favor.

Shadd666, thank you for the tip on Staal.

I went ahead and traded for him during the 2006/2007 season and he has been nothing but great for the team.

I haven't started him in the NHL just yet, but he is a big star in the AHL, right along with Ryan as well.

The Rangers offered a 20 year old Marc Staal for Steve Reinprecht.

I quickly accepted that deal.

Is Zach Hamill actually that good of a player to grab for your team? I know that he is always ranked as the best player, but it just looks like others are much better then him on this game.

If anyone has had success with him, it would be nice to hear about it and as for trades lately. I ended up with all the Staal brothers not too long ago, but I lost that game. Kind of makes me angry, because it was hard to get Buffalo to let go of Jordan Staal.

whenever I have long(ish) games Hamill never turns out too great, none of his technical stats seem to go above 15/16

I got Jonathan Toews for Ryan O'Marra, thought that was pretty good since i can never get Toews, pitty I deleted the game for the new DB.

Hmmm...in my game J.Toews does well, but not really great. He is a 1st liner in Chicago, playing with S.Hartnell and D.Heatley

. In return, R.O'Marra ("faked"-P.Mackie) is one of the leading Calder candidates in 2011, playing on my 4th line (K.McArdle, T.Vincour). Assuming their potential are similar, I've rate this trade as quite even.

i dont know how some of you can pull of the most perfect trades.

i only can get high draft picks or 2nd tier players

I think that too many people worry about what the GM of the other team says during the trade screen. Just because they say that they don't like the trade doesn't mean that they won't take it, you know what I mean?

There have been plenty of players and coaches that I have signed that don't care to come into the organization, but you offer them something good and even though on the screen they say they don't like it. They still sign and end up on the team.

It's just a matter of playing around with options and seeing what you can come up with. Now, I will admit that trying to get people like Crosby, Malkin, Eric Staal, or even Ovechkin can be hard. But you offer the right stuff and sometimes it will surprise you that they will take the bait.

IMHO, TIMING IS EVERYTHING!!!

I use the following strategy to get what I want:
1.Studying the other team needs through carefully (like key center, LW prospect etc.) and offering them what they want.

However, it very much depends on other team GM's ability to evaluate your own playes. If you offer him, for example M.Bell as a key LW they "need", that's fine. But the question is whether the other side sees him that way

. Throwing in some extra draft picks or prospects may trigger the trade though.

2. Immediately after the Draft Day (or through the Draft Day) you might want to leave some of your draftees just as they are (don't check the "Untouchable" box). It's amazing what kind of offers you can receive from teams with a desperate attempt to get what they want.

3.You might want to pay attention to media rumors about certain players. Often critisized players you can sometimes get quite cheaply.

I have to agree about watching out for the players in the news section. If you find that some players are giving a certain team problems, you can easily snatch them away. Plus, they might sometimes go ahead and put that player on the trade list for you to offer something as well and that can make it even easier for yourself.

Also, I notice that if you go after a team that has too much players and not enough money, they sometimes will give up those players that are good. I know that I was playing my game once and got Ovechkin because of that exact reason. It seemed like they didn't want to give him up, but they did.

As for things after the draft, that is another good thing as well. There have been plenty of times where I get people who will offer me good players or draft picks for those that I have on my team right then.

I tend to not trade unless it is a great deal, but it all depends on what you get in return.

My best trade on 2007 must be the one I got on a Blackhaws game. Then I traded Khabibulin, who lost every match, to Edmonton for Liam Reddox, Robert Nilsson and some other guy who I don't remember the name of. Anyway, all of them was 20-21 years old, so it's feeling great to some very good prospects for Khabi.
Instead I signed Curtis Joseph and suddenly we began to win matches, LaLime was the second choice first but he lost almost all of his games as well.
I got this save running on the computer in dorm room, so I will check it when I get back.

I think that so far, my best EHM07 trade was during the Hawks challenge. I sent the rights ro Eric Doyle, who i drafted #13 overall in 2007, to the Penguins for Evgeni Malkin, who was injured since 3 months. Doyle certainly has what it takes to become a very good to excellent defenseman, but will need many years of devellopement, while Malkin is already the phenomenal force that everyone knows.

Another moved i liked was sending Tuomo Ruutu to the Leafs for Scott Niedermayer in season 4. Ruutu was an upcoming UFA, asking 5.5M$ per year while he was having a pretty average season. Nied' was already 36 years old, but still a highly dominant defensive presence, and re-signed for just 4.1M$. It saved me enough cap room to go after Zach Parise to center my 2nd line. I know that Zach is good enough to center the first line, but i actually have a Malkin-Lecavalier-Hossa first line, so there was no place for Zach there. In the same time, Seabrook continues his learning process. After 2 years along with Adrian Aucoin and 2 years along with Derek Morris, he is now playing along with Scott Niedermayer. At just age 25 he won his first Norris trophy, and still has room of improvement! The other great effet of the Ruutu-Niedermayer trade was to bring leadership, as Morris wasn't really considered as a good captain by his teammates.

Recently, traded Jussi Jokinen and Trevor Daley for Brad Richards. Okay, my salary caps take a hit but Brad won the Conn Smyth and the next season he's currently battling for the Art Ross.

A #1 center is priceless ^^

I just started a new game with the Red Wings.

In the first draft (2006), I drafted Milan Kytnar with my 6th choice (180 overall).
First thing that happened after the draft was that the Ducks offered me their 2007 first rounder for him.
Hmm...ok...was what i thought and pressed the respond button. The Ducks thought it was a really good real (!?) for them, so I decided to do a little more negotiation... - I added their 2008 first rounder too.

Believe it or not, but they accepted!

- 6th rounder against 2 1st rounders... not bad at all

I've made a few trades I am quite happy with during my current game (as the Flames)

To Calgary: Justin Pogge
To Toronto: Kevin Lelande
I had Lelande playing backup (to Matt Keetley) on my ECHL team. Kevin Lelande was my "goalie of the future", but now that I have Pogge, he's backing up Kipper, and I have a very strong goaltending unit.

To Calgary: 2009 First Round Draft Pick (14th overall), and 2010 3rd Round Draft Pick (78th overall)
To Florida: Stephane Yelle
Yelle was my 3rd line center, and I needed to make room to bring Ville Leino up from the AHL. I shopped Yelle for a month, and all I was able to get was naff farm players, or 4th round draft picks. Then Florida lost both Jokinen and Horton to long-term injuries, so I knew they'd be in the market for a reliable forward.
