They play in the CCHA. They're in Sault Ste. Marie, essentially on the eastern end of Lake Superior... thus "Lake Superior" State. LSSU is Div. II in all other sports.
There's also a NCAA Div. II school in Michigan near Grand Rapids named Grand Valley State and their nickname is also the Lakers. They have no NCAA hockey program. They happen to play in the Div. II GLIAC conference in all other sports with... Lake Superior State. So there are two schools/teams named "Lakers" in the same conference.
That happens when you live in Michigan. With the Great Lakes all around you. People like to use the name "Lakers".
Makes more sense than the LA Lakers anyways, what with the severe lack of lakes anywhere around Los Angeles...

The LA Lakers were originally from Minnesota, land of 1000 lakes.

I know that. It's like the Utah Jazz though.... What the Dickens, change the name when you move and the original no longer fits. At least they're not the Oklahoma City Supersonics...
At least in the NHL they think about that. Like the North-Start been renamed the Stars or the Nordiques change for the Avs. It would've been weird to got two name that the meaning is for north in the south.
Nice finds!
It's one thing Lidas put in (I think) two updates ago. I suggested that hockey is evolving so countries were you play hockey got completely randomized players. Just to give the illusion of of a spreading of hockey culture. Also a country don't have to be top 5 to produce a NHL-player and most of the randomized players end up rubbish anyway.
Japan and Netherlands surely got the potential to produce players and maybe the chinese guy have moved from china?
They got some nice overall but some BIG holes too. The first one got no teamwork and no workrate. the second one got no passing, no pokecheck it's looking bad for a defencemen. The third one got no dertermination, no workrate, no checking and no deflection. At least he's the one with the best rating, the two other mehh.

He played with China Sharks in Asian league, moved to North America after draft.
Maybe the dictatorship falls in a couple of years?
I'm currently trying to make one Icelandic and one hungarian prospect to NHL-players as an extra challenge. The problem is that they had consistency of 5 respectively 1 when drafted but both at least improved it by one point!
