I haven't encountered it but it isn't the first time I've heard about it. Have you used "go on vacation"?

I think it's something that happens if you are coming in under the salary floor and you go on vacation. The organization will claim players off of waivers to get above the salary floor.

That's what I thought too but no, I haven't been on vacation, at least I can't remember beeing on one

Edit: I've now released him without the Sharks even showing in his history, I hope that's fine and I can continue.

Let me know if there is a problem please.

Finished October with a 1-9-2 record.

Who's Hot?
Troy Gorsenick and Julius Bergman

Who's Not?
Nikita Zadorov
Chris Tierney
Alex Stalock
Taylor Doherty
Erik Johnson

At least I'm in every game, but guys like Johnson and Stalock have to be better. Zadarov and Tierney I'll chalk it up to youth. I could jump the gun and bring up Demko, but I want him down in the minors for this season. I'll give Goldobin a few more games before making the decisions of keeping him up or sending him down.

50 games in and we're 24-21-5 and both scoring and leaking like crazy! Too bad I'm on the outside looking in still but I hope to beat out one or two teams before the 60 mark.
Our special teams are bettering from abysmal to just a little bit less abysmal.

Coyle is leading the league in both goals and points.
Huberdeau is 4th in points. Wingles is 12th with just under a ppg pace.
Johnson is my best D with 6-24-30 but most of them are getting a respectable number of points too.

All in all my team is already doing much better than my 'nucks team did in five seasons in the last challenge.

So I'm in!
After 7 hours in the spreadsheet (my favorite part) I'm done with the trades and draft. I decided this time to go picks-heavy and got only 5 players in trades. It'll be interesting to see what will happen with this not so balanced and deep roster this time.
Trades went like this:
(I just wanted to have Teravainen in my lineup)
Image

And thanks for Zetterberg! He'll be my 3rd center this year already. Amazing find. Also got both Mascherin and Luke Green (thanks to Oilers for the 14th pick). I thought really hard about getting Max Jones again, but didn't. But I'll watch him. I bet he will become a monster like he did in the Canucks challenge.

We'll start like that:
Image

Pre-season went well with 5-2-0. I'm even hoping to finish in the playoffs or better. We'll see!

Is anyone else's ECHL screwy? It has the salary cap at 12.5k and the floor at 273k, minimum wage at 14k. Looks like I'll be retiring the Allen GM as I don't think he can really do anything.

I think mine is too but I don't care is it probably just helps me. That's probably why there was so much spots for me t send down playrs to.

Though I sucked big time, the Canucks challenge was great, so I'm going to jump in here, too. Though may not have as much time...oh well looks like more fun.

Trades:

Burns, Niemi, and D’Agostini to ANA for Theodore, Gibson, and Rakell

Pavelski and Braun to CGY for Monahan

Vlasic and Thornton to DET for Mantha

Kostka to TBL for Koekkoek and 7th

Marleau to CHI for 1st an 3rd

Interesting draft. Took some older guys, got some supposed top liners in the late rounds (though with the limited time to scout, shouldn't really trust their opinions). Wanted to trade up to grab Matthews, as he was excellent in my Nucks challenge, but the asking price was too high for a top 5 pick, as I'd already made the first 2 trades.

Still deciding how to play. I'm more comfortable playing offensively, but may try a much more defensive style this time...can't get worse than last time!

You're okay if you've waived and released him. I seem to remember somebody having this happen to them in the last challenge too. :dunno:

Yeah, I remember someone getting him last time - certainly served as inspiration as I started looking at trade partners. :)

It was me. :) Yeah, Mantha was a beast. But this time I'd prefer to go for Huberdeau if I wanted to get top class winger. Something like Vlasic + Niemi is enough for him. But I went for picks instead this time.

Well really rough start to the season. Lost Gostisbehere for three weeks before the season opener. Stalock and Grosenick can't stop a beach ball to save their lives.

+ Wingels-Couture-Nieto are on fire and have been most of the season.
+ Ghost since his return has been solid
+ Kids are doing good. Meier has 12(3-9) points, Rychel has 7(4-3), and Goldobin also has 7(4-3)

- Sean Couturier has struggled mightily to find a place in the lineup. (2-2 6.17)

Baby Sharks are doing pretty good with a 9-4-2 record. DeBrusk, Fiala and Ryan are leading the way on the offense.

Fiala seem to be an absolute demon in AHL for me. 19-17-36 in 22 games now
Morrissey are also doing well, leading defensemen in AHL with 6-17-23 also in 22 games

Others doing ok down there are Goldobin (8-16-24 in 19) and Petan (8-11-19 in 19)

The team overall is doing so and so though, sitting at 8th in the conferance in AHL with 13-7-2. Seem to clearly be a goalie issue though, since I didn't get Säteri, and missed the EU deadline to sign Grosenick I had to call up Bergvik to be my backup in NHL, leaving only scrubs in the net at Worcester.

Think I will leave my youngsters down there for the season even though they probably could do some good in the NHL, to give them time to develop and shine a little more

That is rough! I got three goalies up so I'm not that worried about injuries. Gros has only played in one game so he isn't exactly overworked,

1st 20 games went pretty bad. (2-15-3). I sent everyone down who was under the age of 22, with exception of Mirco.

20 games in and the season is a wash so I might as well give the younger kids a chance to win and develop.

Turns out losing Stalock wasn't that bad afterall. AFter 60, the Sharks are sitting atop the Western Conference with a comfortalbe lead of over 10 points, firing on all cylinders!

just lost Grosenick for 3 weeks... now all I have is Bergvik and random generated superbad back-ups :C

Hopefully, the offense continues to carry us!

PS. Should I fill in the after 82 sheet after my team is done with the playoffs? Or proceed as normal but add the playoff games won?

If you make the playoffs, wait until you've finished your playoff run to post your stats. If you didn't make it, just go ahead and post them. Just make sure to take your screenshots.

The team missed the play-offs by 4 points, and the off-season started with more bad news. Barkov sustained a torn MCL while playing in the World Championships, and will be out until late November. I made two trades in an effort to improve defensive depth.

Trades:

Couture to Florida for Aaron Ekblad
Zolnierczyk to New Jersey for Damon Severson, 2014 4th Rd Pick (97)

Draft:

1-11 Kristian Vesalainen, HIFK, RW/LW
2-41 Pavel Koltygin, Red Army, RW/LW
3-71 William Bitten, Plymouth Whalers, C
4-97 Vania Lodnia, Odessa Jackalopes, RW
4-101 Cab Kaleta, Delbarton, LD/RD
5-131 Jonatan Norback, HV71, LW
6-161 Tim Parikka, Assat A-Jrs, LD
6-168 Linus Hogberg, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, LD
7-191 Urho Vaakanainen, Blues A-Jrs, RD
7-203 Otto Makinen, Guelph Storm, C/LW

Projected Line-Up:

Hertl - Couturier - Wingels
Goldobin - Rakell - Nieto
Fiala - Tierney - Smith
Hayes - Karlsson - Hartman
Barkov (IR)

Muller - Ekblad
Klingberg - Johnson
Doherty - Severson
Regner
Tennyson

Gibson
Stalock
