Nied's case was totally different: it was Burke's plan to not have him at the start of the season. So he missed the training camp while being contracted, which resulted in a financial sanction saving cap room for the Ducks, allowing them to sign Schneider. The few remaining bucks needed under the cap where obtained by McDonald's trade, and then Nied could "take his decision to return". That was planned from A to Z. Great plan on the paper, but it didn't work.

Sundin's case is different. I think he loves Toronto, but is probably fed up with the fact that the team isn't going anywhere, which may prevent him to win a Cup. So returning to Toronto is tempting because he loves the franchise, but retiring is tempting too because he knows he's old and won't win with the Leafs. Then the millions put on the table by the Nucks are tempting too. Returning to Sweden may by tempting too. And afterall, why not going elsewhere? Nothing's planned here. Just total confusion in Mats' brain.
Hey, Mats?! Put your skates on in any team and prove you're a real warrior! Or retire and don't annoy us anymore with your inability to take a decision! If you need 3 months to decide wether you should pass or shoot, you'd better retire. If you can make your mind faster, then play and stop your mediatic one-man-show that noone cares about.

Rob Lang is now a Hab, in exchange for Toronto's 2nd rounder in 2010, which is now going to the Blackhawks.

And that should put an end to the Sundin to Montreal stories. Clearly Mats met with Gainey and said "Nope not coming here"...and Bob went and did the Lang move.

Forsberg Sundin ....who cares

I'm surprised that it took so long for a team to launch its plan B regarding Sundin. The Habs may have given the signal to other teams: season starts soon, and you can't count on Sundin. Maybe he'll decide to come back once no other team will have the cap space to sign him...
