Minty, when we get back to New York could you give me a few prices for some books, basically composing floor filler etc.. or anything to improve my lyric writing?

Well, I happened to get lucky to hook on as CEO of a club that is owned by one of the veterans of the game, look up Luke Hall who own Punks in the Hall.

It's been his bonuses to April that I have then used to buy people books/instruments etc. Since he owns the club the important thing is to have employees who will continue to play the game so he doesn't mind my giving people good salaries for being good workers... As CEO I completely planned a competition that brought in 30 bands over a week's period and eventually made almost 3 million for the club so I got a 100,000 bonus from the proceeds which is how I opened my tattoo parlor and he may loan me some money to get my clothes shop stocked. 8-) So, Im in a unique situation so I try to help out other TBLers with the money/opportunities I have.

The real way to make money for sure in the game though is to be in a band; Luke is currently owed about 6 million from his share of KONG who are in the Top 5 in punk. So really I think most characters have to do it "the oldfashioned way" and start there. :dunno:

Re: the wierd thread at the forum the people in charge of the in-game moderation taking out cloned characters etc. are The Inquisition. They have special items of big power allowing them to teleport for example. "I head a WHOOOF!" means a dev or inquisition member has teleported into your location... well one of the top thieves in the game stole a hat that allows you to do that and they tracked him down, there are reports he was shot with a laser gun/tranquilized and taken back to "Area 51" (so named of UFO lore fame).

As a result some 'gates' opened in the game; including one in a bus station in Tromso... opening the gate and entering took people on a journey that lasted like 10 hours where there were on "The Highway To Hell" and met all kinds of dev controlled characters etc. and were able to access locations not on the Popo map eventually ending up in Hell (a hotel lol) or along the way at other spots including a "Little House on the Prairie" where there was a cow they could get milk from etc. One character reached hell and found Pandora's Box. She 'used' it three times and was at one point seen with a sword and shield and said she was on a mission to hunt down/kill someone. I haven't checked in on it since this morning... :dunno: Crazy stuff man.

I've already got basic composing & lyrics to 5 stars each, i need the next one up

Minty Edit - You need one of the the specific Composing books... I suggest Composing Anthems @ Grandma Eleonora's here in London, but they are expensive, some are 6,000 others 5k and few are 4k.

April is on the road to Stonehenge; I'll teach you all 'ancient history' if I'm still able to learn it when I get there ;)

So, there was a 'gate' found here in London at the London-Glasgow travel route look for 'items' and you'll see a gate... so I'm heading out they say it takes 3 hrs to get there :nerd:

Follow up on the Gate thread people are finding items with a magical aura to them, someone found a crow and another a map... and there is a new Gate just found in Instanbul nobody knows any info on yet. Sherry the character that opened Pandora's Box is in a world of hurt as she currently has Typhus, Cholera AND Bubonic Plague :-o but claims her 'journey' isn't over yet. Stay tuned PopoMundians!!

I might have to check out Stonehenge when I go over to my beloved Blighty on tour later this month. I'm just about to start learning Basic Detective from my master - that means I don't need to save up a fortune to buy the book! Everybody look out 'coz Archi's gonna be making sure no-one's breaking da law :-D

I took a visit to Stonehenge too. I'm waiting to get back to London now. As Minty said, there's not much to do there. I learned the Ancient History skill. I don't know what it might do for me later but you can never have too many skills. I also noticed something interesting. I was set to work on a skill and to go to the gym. There was an update while I was at Stonehenge or on the way back and my diary said "Life away from the city is good for me. Look - my abs are getting toned!" I don't know if there are any differences in what you do at the temple. I meditated. You could also pray and do a couple other things.

Aww man... April totally wanted to get her abs in shape too... I guess she should have stayed longer! :-p

It appears that things change over when you are set to 'Exploring' which means you are out of town so you get messages about camping being rough if set to rest, your abs looking great if you are set to gym and others I'm forgetting now since you can't get to a gym for example.

Did you "pray" (or whatever else) at the temple at Stonehenge? I didn't know if it was just a chance to write something other could see or if it had any benefit.

Too bad we're not in Nashville. There's supposed to be some cow at a cottage that you can milk and get bottles of milk.

Yeah, the milk raises your health by 1% but if you try to drink more than one it says you think oyu're going to puke if you try to drink anymore milk :-p

With all this craziness going on there are vast rumours/questions about Popo having it's second official server downtime (and third unofficial as the game was offline yesterday for a while too!) in a week. Maybe we'll be in a brave new PopoWorld when we get back. I'd guess they are certainly instituting/testing something before bringing the game back online.

I do however love their new Popo Down! image though... much better than getting an error message.

Whoa... :-o we've all become toons it would appear.

Also... holy borderless gradients batman :-p

It will take a bit to catch up to this 'new look' I guess after staring at the other one for 137 days I guess, but I think the borderlessness makes things feel a little disjointed instead of integrated like images are now just kind of hanging off in space... I dunno :dunno:

It looks new and flashy but I can kind of see what you're saying. When I first logged in it just seemed "off". I guess it will take a while to get used to.

Here's my feeling on why I dislike it:
You see, my problem with it is that if the cities we live in are toons and the new default character pictures are toons, we're all toons now. That is a 180 from this being an 'alternate reality' that in it's basics had humans in it that were rock stars and had pets and real lives and played actual instruments etc but to rip all that out of the game for ToonPopo changes the very essence of the game as we are no longer humans. I guess we probably all have only three fingers now to accomodate playing our toon guitars etc. That's not a change of graphical style that is reinventing the game, and for people that didn't want to see the game reinvented that's a tough thing to take.

When I get the "Eureka! Jonathan Chisnall was explaining Basic Detective and all of a sudden it all made sense. Now I understand!" message can I stop learning from my master and just study it myself?

I agree, the borderless look makes it look totally disjointed. You need some sort of border to make everything stand out and not just blend into one big blur. The big areas of white space when viewing things such as your character page look atrocious.

As for the toons, it has completely changed the feel of the game. I liked how it was humans; it somehow felt personal. Now it feels very plastic and artificial.

Yeah, once you've learned the basic skill from your master, you can study on your own.

You know what they need even more than borders? Scroll bars! That would really tighten up the look of the game!

I don't mind the cartoon part so much. I mean, I still use a photo in my character sheet and so do most people I know. Sure, it would be nice if the location pictures were still photos but it's not a game-killer for me.

Awesome! It only took one day to learn Basic Detective :joy: The downside is that I caught a cold off my master and so my fitness has taken a big hit

The toons design hasn't ruined it too much for me but I still don't like it. The poor borderless design is what really get me. The page looks half-finished now. I hope they realise and do something about that. That's is why TBL always has borders. When designing the current TBL site design, I originally had it without borders and it looked awful!
