One thing about NHL trophies: why forwards always win Lady Byng? I think Lidstrom should won it, he's real gentleman.

Calder nominates are: Jimmy Howard, Matt Duchene and Tyler Myers.

Been a while I've announce the Calder nominees. I never paid attention really about the Lady Byng. :-k I never look if it's mention that it's just for the foward.

Lady Byng=the award for small guys who played well, but are not good enough to win another award. Which is why Datsyuk might win it this year.

Calder-Has to be Myers. Dumb if it is not.

Norris-God that vote is going to be close. Edge to Green over Keith, but Keith should get it as without the fire up Washington offense, Green is really just a liability. He is horrid in his own zone. Doughty is going to win it 5 times, but not this year.

Green shouldn't even be nominated, it's a farce if he wins it.

Alright I never really knew that. But Datsyuk didn't got a season like the past ones. Who are the two other nominees? St-Louis and....?

Green his still the best offensive defencemen out there, even if is defence is not as strong as Doughty or Keith, he is still a defencemen so he is still all-round. :-D Even if he don't win it, what gonna happen, he deserve to be nominated.

That didn't make sense. He's not even top 100 overall in SH ice time, he's behind such stalwarts as Schultz, Poti and Jurcina in SH time on his own team, he's rarely used against the opposition's top line, because he is not good in his own zone, which means he does not have a good all-round game, which is why he's a bad fit for this trophy. It's like nominating Kessel for the Selke, exactly the same. Not deserving of a nomination, not because of not being a very good player but because style of play doesn't fit what the award is all about. This isn't a knock on his play, I'd take Green on my team anytime, he's a very good player. Just not a good fit for a Norris nomination.

In a certain way yes you're right. But I think I've seen a conversation somewhere about that the Norris should be allowed to the best defensive defencemen and they should creat a trophy for the best offensive d-men, like The Orr trophy or something like that. That would be great, because the way the Norris is explain, Green would never wins it, even if he is one of the greatest in the NHL and that sucks. Maybe this is why he is there anyway, because there's no other way he can be "honored".

Orr was elite in his own zone too. More like the Coffey award. Except I think there's even too many trophies as of now. If you're the greatest Dman you will win the Norris. Green at this point is not.

Green is maybe the best offensive d-man, but not good in d-men's real zone: defense. That's very good reason to not to give him Norris. But usually one nominate has been most (points)scoring d-man, which is stupid some way.

I think that Keith will won Norris. Doughty is more offensive d-man. But i'm not saying that Doughty doesn't deserve Norris. Keith is just better. But let's wait few years... ;)

Howard played 63 regular season games. He won 37 games with 3 shutouts. Save-% was 92.4 and GAA was 2.24.

Rask played 45 regular season games. He won 22 games with 5 shutouts. Save-% was 93.1 and GAA 1.97.

Howard was nominated cause he played much more games and he won 58.7% of all games. Rask was backup-goalie in the early season.

I don't see any reason why Rask should be nominated instead of Howard. I see that Rask played more shutouts and has best save-% in whole league, but Bruins tactics were more defensive than Red Wings.

Rask is also 5 years younger and has outplayed the reigning Vezina winner. Win is a team stat, not a goalie stat. Just for the sake of completing your points, I don't actually care if he's nominated or not. Infact it might have had a negative affect on his bonuses/cap hit if he was. And it's Myers trophy anyway.

My opinion is same as yours, Myers will won it. Duchene was very good in early season, but not so good in spring.

P.s. Wins means a lot when it's time to share trophies. Cause i don't think that goalie whose team is 15th in their conference would won Calder.

The main Goalie stat in my opinion is SV%. No matter what team you play on, if you stop pucks, you get a good rating. GAA and Wins can both be largely down to what team you play on...

yep save percentage is what i look for ,but sv% depends heavily on teams playing style. It's a fact that good goalie has a good percentage no matter where he plays.

What I'm scared of is that Howard got good playoffs and I fear it would help him in the race for the Calder. But he should not win it!!! :-x

Playoff succes means nothing, cause they have made decisions before playoffs. I'm not sure, but i think so.

Yeah Rask should have been in ahead of Howard. But I can see why Howard is there. Also interesting to note...3 Red Wings have won the Calder since 1950

Can anyone name them?

I can

1. Sawchuk
2. Hall
3. Crozier

Hmmm...what do they all have in common? INteresting. Howard for Hall of Fame!!

Jacques Lemaire announce he retires. That's surprise, he was still good for his age but he say he got no fuel in the tank anymore. Not a bad career for him.

For DJP19.....Volchenkov will "maybe" try the UFA market this summer. They already speaking about a 4.5/5 millions a year for him.
