I'm still in two minds. £150 seems a lot. I was hoping the price might come down by £25-50 or so.

I might send him a message back and see what happened to the promotion.

Okay, let me know either way, I wouldn't mind contributing to them but £150 is a bit much

Maybe a few people from TBL could put in? Then some sort of competition for the jersey at the end?

Might be an idea?

Calv mate: I was at MK on Saturday myself. Thought your boys did a great job considering how short-benched they were (is that normal for them, I know Gron is injured at the mo, but looked like there were only 15 or so skaters dressed)? Presumably they ice a few more at 'home' in Deeside?

Arch: bet you're glad you didn't make the trip on Sunday... :-p

Perhaps we could arrange a TBL trip to Bracknell this season? Maybe for the Saturday of the double-header in Feb they have coming up (I think it's Feb anyway).

Hull's results have picked up a bit. Good to see.

On Saturday I had a sense of inevitability from the first couple of minutes of the game. I've only seen Phoenix twice now this season but the tactics appear to be soak up pressure in the defensive zone keeping the opposition to the outside and then forcing a turnover and catching the opposition out on a fast break. The problem on Saturday was the defensive coverage wasn't good enough /MK were good offensively so they struggled to contain the forwards and without Gron there was a lack of firepower in the forwards.

Hand went with an all import forward line of Aaltonen, Kovar and Satek which meant the other 2 lines had little scoring threat. Couple that with only having 4 D means it's going to be a long season!

Sounds as though Sunday was even worse....

Phoenix have a couple of Deeside players on two ways, but they only play when Deeside do not have a game. Bentham has joined but not sure if it's just temporary or permanent. They have 13 outskaters typically.

I'd be up for a trip to Bracknell, Feb should be fine

Howcome is it that the Bees have the same logo as the OHL Sarnia Sting?

And I like these Braehead Clan jerseys (minus the ads, of course)

At a guess I'm going to say plagiarism. There are a few other similarities as well:
Poutrelles Delta Ste-Marie (LNAH): http://lnah.com/equipe.php?st_no=367
Sheffield Steelers (EIHL): http://content.ll-0.com/sheffielduni/sh ... 2107063302

Calgary Flames (NHL):
Guildford Flames (EPL): http://i2.getsurrey.co.uk/incoming/arti ... flames.jpg

Chicago Blackhawks (NHL)
Streatham Redskins (NIHL1): http://www.streatham-hockey.co.uk/uploa ... /image.jpg

Buffalo Sabres (Old): http://www.nhluniforms.com/Sabres/Images/Sabres22.png
Basingstoke Bison (EPL): http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/logos/eihl ... 007-08.gif

Detroit Red Wings (NHL)
Haringey London Racers (NIHL2): http://www.tottenhamjournal.co.uk/polop ... 175072.jpg

Augsburger Panthers (DEL, old logo?): http://www.fan-lexikon.de/sport/augsbur ... r-8008.jpg
Nottingham Panthers (EIHL, Old logo): http://www.leftlion.co.uk/images/conten ... rslogo.gif

Here's what I found on another forum:
In the 1980s I'm not so sure it was a case of copying logos and strips as a case of needs must.

As far as I am aware there was no-one manufacturing hockey kit in the UK at that time. So most teams got a job lot of shirts for a particular team, in some cases simply wearing the shirt as was or occasionally applying their own logo.

I seem to recall, although I stand to be corrected on this, that at one time Dundee used a set of actual Rangers shirts, second-hand from the NHL.

I don't know if there was ever an issue over copyright. I assume not in view of how much it went on.
The Guildford Flames jerseys are the old Atlanta Thrashers jerseys, with different logos/sponsors stitched on (they do this in Canada, which is why you can't buy replica shirts with the names stitched on. They auction off the game worn jerseys for an incredible amount of money some over £1000 /1400 euros I think)
Manimal wrote:And I like these Braehead Clan jerseys (minus the ads, of course)

It's not bad, British teams have a tendency to have a few special jerseys throughout the season (e.g. Manchester did a special one for a breast cancer charity evening, http://www.lewiscphoto.co.uk/p21073710/ ... #h5e7b828f) it gets a bit boring after a while but they usually either auction them for charity or auction them for profit and they provide a reasonable source of income. Manchester Storm announced 3 sets of retro jerseys, each one sold for £125 and theres probably 54 of them (3 lots of 18) so thats an easy way to make £6750

Subject to booking plane tickets, I'd be up for this. Although obviously I'd prefer Guildford than Bracknell, but appreciate that might be a bit too far for you travel-wise.

Although given how poorly the Flames are playing, it might be nice to see another team instead!

As for Guildford's jersey, my brother and I were speaking to one of the jersey sellers a month or two ago as I was asking why they have the NHL logo on them. It turns out the the NHL manufacture the jerseys in the US, the logos etc are then stitched on in Canada and then they're shipped over to the UK. Hence why they're so expensive! I did try to get a player's jersey at the end of my first season watching the team but learned that my £200 bid was way too ambitious - most usually go for £800 IIRC and the most sought after go for over £1,000...

Full packed hockey weekend for me. Was in Belfast for friendship four tournament with some NCAA teams. Was interesting to see that level. I think the word to describe it best would be raw. Was a much faster style of play probably helped by the fact they were wearing full cages but a lot more stray paces and not keeping the puck in from going past the blueline. Some nice individual goals. Was very impressed with southeastern think they were best team out of the 4 but Umass Lowell edged them out in the semi final like they did both nights scored a last gasp goal to go to overtime. Brown were pretty decent but and Colgate looked quite a bit behind the rest. They are doing it again next year in Belfast, not something I would go to every year but good weekend and Belfast good city for a weekend and the locals very friendly and the bar Rockies is like a hockey museum.

Sunday flew back to Edinburgh in time to see Sir Tony Hand have his jersey retired. Cracking jersey the caps wore in tribute to the racer era and a score you would expect in the 1980's. Dundee beat Edinburgh 11-9. Edinburgh had them beaten but blew it. I quire like low scoring ho key and appreciate good defense but it was a novelty as a one off to see a game like this. Caps have shown great improvement this year and while they are great at coming back from behind at home they have a habit of making it tough for themselves. Cracking league this season.

Next trip for me will likely be the elite league play off finals weekend. Caps might have a chance this year of getting there a small chance but better than ever before.

I'll be there anyway I imagine Calv!

Would be good to get an EHM get-together at any game really, was just thinking Bracknell to offer them a bit of support, even if it's just a couple more through the door.

A Lightning, A Flames and a Phoenix fan walk into a rink...they all have a great time and enjoy the game because British Hockey is like that...

I'll need to check train times, but Bracknell might be a bit of a stretch for me. Especially as it's a bit of a way from the train station (45 minute walk)...

Well its a little way off yet mate. Plenty of time to plan or decide on something different. Where would you be coming in from? Guildford I presume?

I'd be down there in the car anyway. Could grab you from the station, or if I'm down in Basingstoke that weekend could meet at a station on-route? Would make a change to got to Hockey and not have to explain the rules to everyone! Lol

Haha! I hate explaining the rules! :-D

I'd be flying into Gatwick so it's a bit of a way (and a really long way from where you're coming from!!). I usually fly back first thing in the morning after the game and so stay over at a hotel in Gatwick.

More bad news
The Phoenix have set up a Supporters Trust to gain funding in order to complete this season and get back home to Manchester next season.

At the end of last season, due to a situation beyond their control they were unable to continue playing home games in Manchester, leaving the club little choice but to try and find an alternative home to compete in the Premier Ice Hockey league, leading to this season being played out in Deeside, North Wales. The move has not only impacted the ability for the massive Manchester fan base they have gained over the last 10 years, to make the trip to Deeside every Sunday, but to sponsors/investors who have found it challenging to support a team with their heart in Manchester but a home in North Wales.

The Clubs owner Neil Morris said "We know that we need to get back to Manchester next season, the demand is high from our fans and sponsors alike, the re-location this season has hit us hard and I'm not hiding that fact, the new arena is and can happen, it will be great for the Phoenix and the Manchester economy, but we need help to make it to the end of this season at Deeside or we can't make coming home to Manchester a reality. I am fighting for this club, we can do it, we've done it before! We are not ungrateful to Deeside, without the Flintshire Council stepping in to help there would have been no Phoenix at all this season, something we will never forget and Deeside people and their Ice Hockey Team, The Deeside Dragons are now in our Phoenix Family"

The Phoenix are now turning to the Faithful and commercial Businesses to help bring them home to Manchester next season. The Phoenix Supporters Trust will offer multiple levels of rewards in return for investments, starting from just £20
They've also had to change the company that supplies the coaches for the fans to get to Deeside and have cut down on the number of them. I think Goodwins were supplying them for free, so it sounds as though they've dropped out and now Phoenix are having to fund them

To be honest, I wouldn't be all that surprised if we end the season with only 8 teams. :\

Many people said at the time Manchester's PR was outrageously optimistic about the move to Deeside and the apparent land in Manchester. Would it be all that surprising to find this summer that they can't find any land or can't get the planning permission etc?...

One would think that buying arena stocks would be much more attractive to those who want to see the venue built than this. One gets 10% discount of next year's season ticket by investing £500? Really?

Wow, that's a pretty terrible offer. You're effectively paying for an iron on badge and some meagre discount on various items - provided them make it to next season... :\

The situation with the coaches can't help either, they've cut the number of coaches to the games which will probably negatively affect crowds.

British hockey can be such a mess sometimes
