Defenseman Walker Drouin has turned down the offer of a contract for next season. Will try again later.
Yes, I know I've invited five guys back overage. The plan is to have Drouin, McKanna, and Leclerc be the overage players. Then if Drouin either doesn't sign with us, or signs a pro contract, Tompkins will get the spot, and if both defensemen (Drouin, and McKanna) end up signing pro contracts, Scott would get the spot.
I'm not sure if I've explained this yet, but I set a rule for myself which I've followed throughout this blog, in an attempt to make things more challenging. I don't accept overage players on loan from NHL teams. I release the rights to all 20 year old players under NHL contracts just after the Memorial Cup each year.
Both Walker Drouin, and Raphael McKanna were drafted, but they were drafted their second time through the draft, so their NHL teams have until after their overage seasons to decide if they are going to sign them or not, which is why there's a possibility the two could play their overage years for me.
December 22nd
Former IceDogs center Freddie Hamilton has signed a 1 year contract extension worth $99.5K with the Connecticut Whale (AHL).
Niagara IceDogs defenseman Walker Drouin is named OHL Player of the Week!! In 2 games he scored a goal, and 3 assists.
