I've played one game where I started as a GM in the WHL, spent a couple seasons there and got hired to GM in the AHL. My problem was, I started with my reputation/experience as either one of the really low ones or automatic (it was over a year ago and I can't remember). I spent a few seasons GMing the AHL team, winning the Calder Cup once, and couldn't get hired to GM an NHL team. Every time an NHL team fired one GM, another NHL team would hire him, then the GM they fired would get hired by another. They kept swapping GMs from the same small handful of guys, never going outside of them. Sometimes they'd even hire a guy they fired a year before. It was ridiculous!

Hmm... Thats a little strange.

Well I was offered the Job of being the GM of the Blackhawks when I was in charge of the Red Deer Rebels. After winning the Presidents Cup in my first year in charge.

I'm in 2009 with the Blues and things are lookin pretty good. First thing i always do is overall the coaching staff, so i dumped Murray immediately and picked up Pat Burns and then changed all assistants as well. After a few player moves i ended up winning the cup that first year as well as having the 1st overall pick do to having Toronto's first rounder. I got Hamill.

Made it to the finals the next year and lost in 6. Now i am currently 3rd overall in the league in January 08 and looking strong. The team as it stands now...

Semin Lecavalier Boyes
Tkachuk Staal Shanahan
Christov Weight Lemtyugov
Pandolfo Trudel Tootoo

Oshie as my most used sub... going to trade Weight for picks/prospects to make room for Oshie or Hamill or Berglund

Pitkanen Tallinder
Regehr E. Johnson
Gonchar Aucoin
Picard

Esche
Toivonen

i am really trying to play pretty realistically meaning no crazy trades like 5 2nd rounders and 2 prospects for malkin... i really like using the homegrown talent and seeing if i can get them to be successful at the NHL level. So far, Lemtyugov has been a good 3rd liner as well as EJ looking strong. Hamill is tearing up Peoria, player of the month 3 times and rating of 9.5. All in all, i am looking at getting at least 12 million of the books next year in KT, Gonchar, Weight and Shanahan and the only real hole to fill is a 2nd line RW. Hossa is the target and everthing else will be filled by my young guys.

09/2010 lineup hopefully

Semin Lecav Hossa
Christov Staal Boyes
Oshie Hamill Lemty
same 4th

I could live with these top 2 lines. Not to mention both goalies average ratings of 8.5 with 20 games played a piece. Sorry for the length of this...

I think its the Blues that have the rights to a guy in Sweden or some place in Europe. His name is Kahnberg I think, and hes got very good offensive stats, you ought to try and sign him.

Starting season 08-09 in my Wild franchise

Paul Stastny - Pavol Demitra - Marian Gaborik
Benoit Pouliot - Mike Richards - Pierre-Marc Bouchard
Roman Voloshenko - Mikko Koivu - Matt Foy
Jody Shelley - Samuel Pahlsson - Jamal Mayers
Stephane Veilleux - Graham Mink

Chris Phillips - Derek Morris
Kim Johnsson - Nick Shultz
Ruslan Salei - Brent Burns
Aaron Johnson

Kevin Weekes
Josh Harding

I expect goaltending to be a little suspect but hopefully i can put together a good tandem. Also I will be relying on my top line for a lot of scoring although Pouliot had 16 goals as a rookie last year. Jamal Mayers was a pleasant surprise scoring 18 goals, and Pahlsson had 43 points. Stamkos I drafted 3rd overall and I am going to give him a chance to make the team. Pierre-Marc Bouchard broke out with 59 points in 53 games so he will be a big part of my secondary scoring. Also, I picked up Mike Richards on an RFA offer sheet, and I expect him to improve on his point totals playing second line minutes. Also, Chris Phillips and Derek Morris are newcomers that should shore up my back end, especially since Morris won the Norris last year. Injuries really hurt me last year with Demitra missing 60 games, Bouchard missing 29 games and Gaborik missing 10 games. That was one of the big reasons I sold off a lot of my players last year.

Trades made last season:
MIN trades G Miroslav Kopriva and F Branko Radivojevic to ANA for F Samuel Pahlsson
MIN trades G Manny Fernandez to WAS for G Billy Sauer, G Fredrick Cassivi, and G David Shanz
MIN trades F Dean McAmmond and F Mark Parrish to PHI for 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2008
MIN trades F Brian Rolston to COL for F Paul Stastny
MIN trades D Keith Carney to PHI for 2nd round pick in 2009
MIN claims D Ruslan Salei off waivers
MIN claims F Jody Shelley off waivers
MIN claims F Jamal Mayers off waivers

Offseason trades:
MIN trades F Zack Torquato to PHO for D Derek Morris
MIN trades D Shawn Belle and 2nd Round pick in 2008 to TB for D Chris Phillips
MIN trades 6th round pick to DAL for G Mike Smith
MIN trades 5th round pick to LA for G Kevin Weekes
MIN signs G Jason Labarbera to an RFA offer sheet
MIN signs F Mike Richards to an RFA offer sheet

You also picked Richards on RFA? Philadelphia just doesn't treat him as they should :dunno: .

Anyway, I like the first line...very slovakish :-D , Stastny's father is Slovakian. I think your defense is darn good IMO.

I just started a new season unemployed with all leagues selected. There were at least 30-40 league jobs available and about 8-10 international jobs. I applied to all of them :)

Was offered two British league jobs and a Norwegian league job. As well as at least 3 interntaional jobs.

So I accepted the Norway League Job (Furuset) and the Norwegian U20 job. In the first season with Furuset we finished last but avoided relegation. For the U20 job we finished 2...just shy of promotion. I want see how long it is until I get offered a new job, I figure once I win a championship I'll start looking.

Yeah I was very glad to get Stastny as Colorado offered him for Rolston straight up. Real great trio of slovaks now. Also, my defense has been great this year, it was a problem last year but Morris and Phillips have really helped in that department. Also, getting Salei off waivers has been good too, his play has been a bit dissapointing but now he is playing on the third pair it has improved. A 2 million dollar salary is hard to swallow for a 10 minute a game defenseman though.

OMG, I have just found old notebook where I kept notes about my current progress with team, mostly used for off-season trades, where I wrote down UFA's asking salaries, so then I could decide if I take him or not...it was back with EHM 2005, my Sharks game...taking look at it...I didn't know half of these guys...and I didn't realize their true prize until now!

Goalies: Caron, Raycroft, Munro

Defense: Grand-Pierre, McCarthy, Hannan, Mezei, Rachunek, Campbell, Barker, Gauthier

Offense: Mark Bell, Chris Drury, Martin Havlat, Milan Hejduk, Bobby Ryan (when I saw this name, I was like...What the Dickens? did I really acquired him?), Martin Straka, Chuck Kobasew, Jason Spezza, Gratton, Plyuschev, Kuchejda, Dej, Trupp

lol funny, ol' memories  I had two won cups within three years or so...

please, just don't critise my roster, back in days I didn't give a darn about if they fit or not, I usually played three very offensive lines, i didn't have a clue what checking line is!

Season is going well at 14-11-2, leading division so far :-D .

Harding has picked up his play after a slow start and I am 7-3 in my last 10 games. I think my slow start can be attributed to me trying to play more of an offensive game but now I have tightened up defensively its great. Demitra and Gaborik are tearing it up as well, last game Demitra had 1 goal 3 assists and a shootout goal. Gaborik had 2 goals.

I traded Mayers to Florida for a 3rd round pick, and I traded Vielleux to the islanders for Robert Nillson. I think this will turn out to be a steal as Nillson is 23 and had 9 goals lats year on the forth line, although he was -52  Oh well

I had to take Paul Stastny off the top line to spread out the offense so yeah the Slovak line is no more :-p
The second line has been my shutdown unit, ignore Mink and Pahlsson's +/- they have been improving.

Current Lines w/ stats through 27 games

Forwards

Benoit Pouliot 6 g 20 p E - Pavol Demitra 16 g 43 p +20 - Marian Gaborik 21 g 40 p +18

Graham Mink 4 g 5p -2 - Mike Richards 4 g 10 p +5 - Samuel Pahlsson 4 g 6 p -2

Roman Voloshenko 5 g 13 p -2 - Paul Stastny 5 g 28 p +9 - Pierre Marc Bouchard 9 g 17 p +7

Jody Shelley 0 g 0 p -9 - Robert Nillson 0 g 1 p -1 - Matt Foy 2 g 2p -15

Mikko Koivu 1 g 1 p -13 - Ryan Stone 0 g 1 p -3

Defensemen

Chris Phillips 5 g 12 p E - Derek Morris 4 g 13 p +4

Kim Johnsson 1 g 10 p -3 - Nick Shultz 1 g 4 p -1

Ruslan Salei 0 g 4 p +3 - Brent Burns 1 g 12 p -2

Aaron Johnson 0 g 3 p +3

Goalies

Josh Harding 6-3 3.88 .867  (better of late though)
Kevin Weekes 8-8-2 3.14 .902

Power play is cruising right along at 20.4%. This is due to all of my point presence and guys like Mike Richards in front of the net. My second unit has been clipping along too as my third line comprises that. Now that Harding is back to form my 80.3% PK should improve. Also I have scored 5 shorties so far.

After a second season of futility at Furuset we have been relegated to the Nrowegian First Division. And I was fired. I have now been hired by Gruner, the team that got promoted. Funny thing is...Gruner has a higer player budget then Furuset...so I should in theory be able to build a better team.

Some of you guys have made some interesting trades during your career. Kind of cool to see that stuff on here, because I like to see what can happen or what the game will allow at times.

I personally had to erase my computer and I lost all of my saved games. I was dumb enough to not save it the first time around, but oh well.

I am about to start up a new game with some random team and go from there with what I hope is a great career.

To all of the rest, good luck and keep up the great work.

Well i took over SKA St. Petersburg after i edited the leagues a bit ... i am a big fan of russian hockey and it is sad for me that russia only has 1 division in this game. well in mine there are 3 divisions with russian teams and most of the other leagues changed a lot too :)

i made it a bit harder for me though, as i released all players oler than 20 years from SKA. So i had to build my team from UFAs. But i found a great core i think. after investing a bit of money to pry lose some 2nd and 3rd liners of other teams in the league

my president though we are fighting against relegation, but so far i am big in the playoffs with some guys producing numbers i would never have imagined

I recently thought it would be fun to take the Penguins over and see how I could do with them in a few seasons or for longer if the game is that much fun.

Right now, I just finished my first season with the Penguins. Easily not the best season I have had in the game. I didn't make the playoffs, but I did make a late run that almost paid off for me. I was in the 13th spot and just 12 points out of the 8th spot.

I had 8 games to try and make a good run. Won 6 of those games to get myself tied for 8th with the Thrashers. But with the Thrashers having that one extra little game, they beat me out for the final playoff spot.

It's ok though, because the Penguins in all regards are not as good in the game as they are on the ice in real life. They are very young and somewhat inexperienced when it comes to defense and goaltending. Which is why I was able to acquire some good players during the season.

I was able to get Marc Staal in a steal. Gave them some prospects that I felt would amount to nothing. Then I was able to land Chara after giving up some talented AHL prospects and a few 4th line people.

All in all, I feel that it turned well for me. Cause Fleury did 10 times better in the net when they were on the first line with Crosby, Malkin, and Recchi. He went from a .892 SV% to finish the season with a .912 SV% and his goals against average was also lowered from 3.56 to 2.85 in the games that I landed Chara.

As for anything else, I basically gained quite a few draft picks in the offseason to grab tons of good talent. I am hoping that many of them payoff for me in the next few years. As the talent that the Penguins did have on hold in the start of the game were mostly all flukes.

Looks like you have a good season going for you, but it also looks like your goaltending could use some work.

What is the ratio for goals scored and goals against?

I feel that if you are willing to do something. You could easily trade for a good goaltender or a good prospect goaltender like Carey Price.

Yeah the goaltending was a concern for me early but in my last 20 or so games I have only been giving up 2-3 goals per game but the rough start skews the goalies stats.

191 goals for, 160 against thru 49 games

That's not too bad, but late in the stretch is where you want to keep from allowing the 3 and 4 goals a game. Plus, you also want to minimize that in the playoffs, because if you get into a good heated playoff battle with a team that has a very experienced goaltender.

Trust me, he'll be on his game and you want your guys to be also as well.

Just finishing up the offseason of 09. Comin off a somewhat improbable Stanley Cup victory and i traded Zach Hammill and my own 1st (i had 2 others) for the first overall (selected Tavares). Also missed out on Hossa as a free agent, but i managed to pick up Pronger for a steal since STL is his favorite team... 3 years 3.5 per. Also got Kovalchuk in a trade with ATL.

Kovalchuk Lecavalier Boyes
Semin J. Staal Shanahan
Kana Oshie Lemtyugov
Pandolfo Draper Tootoo

Pitkanen Pronger
Regehr Tallinder
Aucoin E. Johnson
Picard

Toivonen
Price

Got a ton of highly rated propects too, just need to figure out when to get them to Peoria and how to get them a sniff of the NHL. Cherepanov, Voracek, Colin Wilson, Tavares, Schnell...

I can tell you right now that those prospects who can still be sent down into the juniors.

You should definitely take advantage of doing that on account of them being trained so well when playing in the juniors. Yes, I know that some players would rip the juniors to shreds if you send them there, but they still get trained well. Then you can bring them up to either start in the NHL right then and there or you can throw them down into the AHL for a few games first.

Thanks for the advice. I really want to get good at developing youth cause i love doing it, i'm just not sure what the best way is. To me it is soo much more satisfying to watch a player you drafted turn into a star than trade for someone.

My team in 2012/13:

Nash - Tavares - Zherdev
McArdle - Brule - Voracek
Fedoruk - Rasmussen - Eager
Baldwin - Stamkos - Kane

Staal - Bouwmeester
Babenko - Morris
J. Johnson - Teubert

Niitymäki - Allison

Quite happy, won 3 SCs so far and doing well again - also, I've got quite a few promising prospects in the system, so I'm looking at a bright future :)
