Just got a weird expectation for season 2 in a NYR 1947 game: "Play .500-Ball".

Haha! Sounds like the Rags have given up on hockey!joehelmer wrote:Just got a weird expectation for season 2 in a NYR 1947 game: "Play .500-Ball".

I'd recommend reporting that on the OOTP site.

We ended up dead last but that doesn't mean that my Chairman goes crazy and wants us to play baseball all of a sudden.archibalduk wrote:Haha! Sounds like the Rags have given up on hockey!joehelmer wrote:Just got a weird expectation for season 2 in a NYR 1947 game: "Play .500-Ball".![]()

Re: Franchise Hockey Manager Beta v0.9.0 Discussion Thread
despite many features being disactivated and a somewhat disconnect feeling between my league and the world as well as the lack of polish (which was expected) i really like the look of the game. Like OOTP there is alot of wasted space that i hope changes before release but my first impressions are great so far. But certainly for most people who plan on purchasing the game should wait for it to get further along in developement.
I think i'm going to write up a small list of requests i'd like to see (small like the West and East Conferences switching sides on the screen so East is on the left) but i'm no where near that point yet. I'll be playing it for awhile on the weekend. Until then just 20 minutes the odd day if i'm lucky. Overall i'm very impressed though.

I will probably not play this much for some time the game is too unpolished, but I can really feel that there's a lot of potential in it and with some more development I'm sure it will be a great game.

Yes, that's a fair assessment. I'm sure alot of people will feel the same way. I'm glad they decided to push back the release date. I'm sure it was a very difficult decision but a wise one that will pay off in the long run.joehelmer wrote:I will probably not play this much for some time the game is too unpolished, but I can really feel that there's a lot of potential in it and with some more development I'm sure it will be a great game.

I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well everyone is receiving the beta. Given the other public betas I've played, I was honestly expecting a lot of misunderstanding, disappointment, and even anger. But plenty of people seem to understand what the beta is, and are doing a nice job of participating.

Well we are a classy forum here Stinson! Everyone was waiting for so long for a new hockey sim that everyone will probably do their best to make it better. There will probably be some whiners somewhere but I don't think we're gonna see that here.
Re: Franchise Hockey Manager Beta v0.9.0 Discussion Thread
I regret paying money for this personally.. maybe when it's more polished I'll like it.
I do have to be understanding about the fact it's beta.. but it's more of the layout I don't like.. maybe if I play it some more I'll get used to it and like it.
But if ratings get updated for EHM soon.. I'm sure I'll be sticking with that

Why? You have endless money you're Bruce Wayne!
It's sure a new layout can be confusing. When I first plyed EHM I was completely lost and sometimes that was frustrating.

LOL.. I lol'd at that.
Yeah that's probably what it is for the most. I'm almost sure of it.
I miss pressing space to continue!

Re: Franchise Hockey Manager Beta v0.9.0 Discussion Thread
Having played OOTP's baseball product, I knew the basic way that they approached the game's layout. I will say, that at this point, I can see that there is some progress to be done in that regard, although I do like it.
I think some of the player attributes, potentials and the rest will need to be revised, but that's what this community is for
At this point, I have to say, I like the beta, and I'm glad I spent the money on it. I think this is going to be a game that a lot of people will play and enjoy. And while I'm not in love right now, there's still a lot of time until the official release date, so I'm sure there will be a vast difference. I cannot wait.

Re: Franchise Hockey Manager Beta v0.9.0 Discussion Thread
I wouldn't get too hung up about the interface at this point. From what I've seen, it's about 99% copy-paste from OOTP Baseball, which implies, to me at least, that they're just getting something in there to use. I have a feeling that the interface and usability will be tweaked and refined quite a bit between now and release.Brucewayne wrote:but it's more of the layout I don't like.. maybe if I play it some more I'll get used to it and like it.
That is, only if people like you provide your feedback! So don't be afraid to post your concerns on the OOTP beta foums

Visited the forum after a aomewhat long time to see what you guys are talking about FHM and this caught my eye:
I would like to stress that i'm not giving any kind of critique with my question, it's just one of those things that you see somewhere and can't wrap your head around it.
Loving the game though, just skimmed through it last night and it seems to be a game that will be pretty deep.
I didn't get this one, why would you like the Eastern conference on the left side? Or am i understanding something wrong here?dave1927p wrote:...I think i'm going to write up a small list of requests i'd like to see (small like the West and East Conferences switching sides on the screen so East is on the left) but i'm no where near that point yet. ...

In essence all we're doing is pre-ordering a game with a chance to have an early look at it thats the way I took it anywaysB. Biggest thing I miss is a player game rating and the season rating as well. Especially with players I don't know. I can't watch them so when 75% seem to be about 3 stars I'm pretty much blind. May not be a game killer for me but it might.

Do you mean what they were doing in EHM before the season starts? Like best rookie, best LW etc...CeeBee wrote:Biggest thing I miss is a player game rating and the season rating as well. No, the game rating like a guy who scored a goal and maybe had a couple of hits and a +1 might get a 9 for the game. The season rating was just an average of all the games played ratings. For example a guy in junior with a 6.5 avg rating would be a pretty good player but 6.5 NHL would be in the AHL pretty quick.

Ah alright this rating! Yeah I guess it was something unique in EHM. That's probably something we we'll need to get used without. You can see that like a more challenging way to evaluate the players and look more carefully at his stats.

Re: Franchise Hockey Manager Beta v0.9.0 Discussion Thread
Or not get used to. Baseball stats can tell pretty much the whole story. Hockey stats, not so much IMO plus I am not going to spend the time to wade through hundreds of players and thousands of stats. I just don't have the time or patience. Hell, even baseball uses a combined value stat of sorts. Either VORP or WAR and there are also fielding stats that give a pretty good one stat rating. To me, maybe if it was a 10 star system it might help as there would be more catagories but it also needs to be dynamic as well. Just because Marleau might score goals in the first 6 games doesn't mean he's Gretzky of Richard.

This ^ I don't see how you can be disappointed with your purchase, you haven't gotten to play it yet. We purchased FHM 2014 v1.0. There is still a ton of work to go into the game before you can really grade your purchase.
I agree, I won't play the beta too much, there is so much potential, but small things like if you switch a player it puts him in twice rather than swapping the two or inability to resign players makes it hard to move forward for me, but the potential is amazing!
and Archie that logo pack is incredible, so many logos really makes the game a lot better, its weird its just a logo but adds so much to the visuals.

Re: Franchise Hockey Manager Beta v0.9.0 Discussion Thread
I have always had mixed feelings about these ratings. I feel like they took some fun out of the game because I was only paying attention to whether or not a player was playing above 7 and assuming he was effective. I agree though that hockey cannot be 100% done based on stats. I'd like to see more input from my coaches telling me that so-and-so has or hasn't been looking good, as my indicator.philou21 wrote:Ah alright this rating! Re: Franchise Hockey Manager Beta v0.9.0 Discussion Thread
I'm not speaking only on goals and assists though. Plus/minus are very important too but I admit it doesn't give you the best evaluation ever. Honestly I don't know what to say.
Personnally without rating I'll just go with my judgement and the reports that the coaches could give me.
