I wouldn't. All that does is increase your chance of angering somebody you don't want to (other players and the board). Wait until trading opens up and fine them a few days in a row. They'll allow trades pretty easily.

Re: Challenge #38 - Shark Attack! - Discussion Thread
Okey, finally done with my trades! Overall i'm quite happy with what i did but i did fail to fill some of the needs i wanted to fill. In my plan before i started trading i wanted a first pairing on defence and a #1 RW along with a few picks (not too many) and some prospects that could fill a spot in NHL right away. I didn't get a #1LD and i didn't get a #1RW otherwise i'm happy, here are the trades:
Patrick Marleau to Capitals for their 1st(#27) and 3rd(#87) - Only good offers i got was in picks and this was the best one.
Brent Burns and Antti Niemi to Hurricanes for Ryan Murphy - Wanted him, Vatanen or Barrie for my RD spot
Joe Thornton and Mike Kostka to Sabres for Linus Ullmark - He looks like a beast and had beast numbers in AHL, couldn't pass him up
Marc-Edouard Vlasic to Blue Jackets for Mitchell Marner, Mike Reilly and their 1st(#20) - Tried to get a more NHL-ready player then Marner but this was the best deal i could get, Jackets were the only team that had Vlasic at 5*.
Justin Braun to Hurricanes for Patrick Brown - Tore AHL up, is versatile RW and will provide good depth in NHL (i hope).
Joe Pavelski and Matt D'Agostino for Pavel Buchnevich, Oliver Björkstrand and a 3rd(#62) - Tried so hard to get a solid rosterplayer (either LD or RW) for Pavelski but i just couldn't get a deal i like so i just took the best deal i could find and didn't care about my needs.
Next up is the draft
#7 - C Logan Brown
#20 - RD/LD Luke Green
#27 - LD Chad Krys
#36 - RW Eugene Russell
#42 - G Evan Cormier
#62 - RW/LW Carl Grundström
#87 - C Arttu Ruotsalainen
#96 - LD/RD Nikita Mekeyev
#126 - C Drake Rymsha
#156 - RD Marcus Björk
#186 - LW Maxim Bain
#193 - RD Nick Heid

Yeah it is! Basically just listen to Tim Burke at the draft. Ignore the rest.
Hey, PD, I drafted Logan Brown at #7 also. I got Kale Clague and Tyson Jost in the second round. Beyond that, my draft didn't seem to have anything to get excited about.
I've played 6 regular season games so far and 2-4. I haven't tweaked my tactics or lines yet. I want to give it a little bit to see if it will work. My goalies have been very good though. I can't lay fault there.

b72 - I was so hoping for Matthews though, he was ranked #7 for me but he got taken at #5. Brown looks like a solid prospect aswell. I'm excited about Grundström just because i know how good he was on the last db, new db though so he probably dropped for a reason. Happy to get Cormier in the 2nd round aswell, hate drafting goalies early but since i had 4 picks before him i took a shot at him.

I've actually got Tierney playing out of necessity. I'd rather let him struggle than ruin a legit young talent.

Ugh....another tough time trading....BUT MAN AM I HAPPY

Walking into the draft with two 1sts(6 and 20/ TOronto won lottery), three 2nds(6, 12, 28) and out 4th, 5th, 6th, and NYI and our 7th
Man sucks we can't sign other players....Dal Colle and Ho Sang are unsigned prospects
Missed out on Matthews by one pick...darn Panthers...who are gonna be SCARY soon with McD(Not looking too good), Barkov, Huber, Ekblad...
#6: Pierre-Luc Dubois
#20: Max Jones
#36: Victor Rosen
#42: Evan Cormier
#58: Alex-Olivier Liebel
#96: Oskar Steen
#126: Jonathan Ang
#156: Mitchell Balmas
#186: Ryan Zuhlsdorf
#193: Nick Heid.
Excited for my season, only concern is if Stalock can take the reigns or will I have made a horrible mistake.

Re: Challenge #38 - Shark Attack! - Discussion Thread
I've completed the draft, and am approaching July 1.
Trades:
Vlasic to Florida for Aleksander Barkov
D'Agostini to New Jersey for a 2016 3rd
Braun to Dallas for John Klingberg
Niemi to Philadelphia for Sean Couturier
Thornton to Tampa Bay for a 2016 1st (30th)
Marleau to Washington for a 2016 1st (28th) and 4th (118)
Burns and Pavelski to Anaheim for Rickard Rakell and John Gibson - This was a very hard decision, but we definitely need a goalie, and Gibson should be a stud.
*I am buying out Kostka as I was unable to find a taker for him
Draft:
1-6: Logan Brown, C
1-28: Samuel Girard, LD
1-30: Kale Clague, RD
2-36: Travis Barron C/LW
2-42: Josh Anderson, LD
3-64: Victor Mete, LD
4-96: Drake Rymsha, C
4-118: Makar Tokarev, RW
5-126: Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson, C
6-156: Hayden Verbeek, LW/C
7-186: Logan Stanley, LD
7-193: Joel Daccord, G
I'm hoping to find some good coaches and scouts, as both of those areas need to be totally revamped (especially scouting). I will also look to replace my AGM. Going into the 2016-17 season, my projected lines will be:
Nieto - Couturier - Wingels
Couture - Barkov - Rakell
Goodrow - Hertl - Zolnierczyk
Fiala - Tierney - Karlsson
Hartman
Hayes
Johnson - Klingberg
Muller - Tennyson
Regner - Abeltshauser
DeMelo
Gibson
Stalock

Oops, made a big mistake, forgot to re-sign Stalock... Good thing i traded for Ullmark but i really wanted him in AHL for one more season, oh well...
Now that i look at my depth chart i get a bit disappointed with how i made my trades, should have gotten more quantity and depth, now i need to toss some of the youngsters in at the deep end.
Preliminary lineup (very preliminary)
G: Ullmark, Grosenick
Johnson-Murphy
Müller-Tennyson
Reilly-Doherty
Nieto-Couture-Goldobin
Buchnevich-Hertl-Wingels
Melkman-Brown-Smith
Goodrow-Tierney-Hayes
Something close to that will be my lineup for season one.

PD: That's a big mistake! You're going to miss having Stalock.
NickFlyers: Nice getting Meier! I kept trying to get him but the trades didn't come together.
MicroKiller: Very nice trades! I'm really surprised that you were able to land some of those guys for what you did.

b72 - i know, i'm kicking myself. Ullmark looks as good as Stalock but i don't like that i have to rush him because of my mistake. Really should have gotten some more depth with my trades aswell, not very happy at all. I'll fight through it though
It's good that Johnson can play on the left, i feel OK with my D actually.
Reworked my staff in both San José and Worcester. Got a bunch of 20-20 scouts, Bob Francis is my new assistant GM, Guy Boucher is my new Head Coach and i also added Jay Leach to my coaching staff. In Worcester i basicly got everything new with the headlines being Ron Rolston as the new Assistant GM and Todd McLellan as the new Head Coach.
Edit: LOL, Bob Francis retires 2 days after he signed. Got Chris Pryor instead.

Hey, and now I just won the draft lottery!
Not that it seems like there's any clear cut nr1 in the draft.

Here are my trades...
Traded Marc-Edouard Vlasic to Cancuks for rights to Thatcher Demko (Fans called for my head)
Traded Brent Burns to Savres for Mikhail Grigorenko and Nikita Zadoror (Fans called for my head)
Traded Joe Thornton and Justin Braun to Blues for Petteri Lindbohm and Jordan Greenway
Traded Joe Pavelski to Canadiens for Nathan Beaulieu, Kyle Connor and Jarred Tinordi (Fans called for my head)
Traded Matt D'Agostini to Penguins for a 3rd and 4th round pick in 2016
Traded Mike Kostka and Patrick Marleau to Canucks for Pavel Zacha and 4th round pick
Traded Antti Niemi to Kings for Tanner Pearson
Noticebal difference this time around, I went after a few prospects, but mostly young players who could help me now. I also won the draft lottery so I'll be drafting Chychrun again.

Good job, VD! How did you get him to sign?
I ended up signing Torts as my HC. Rick Olczyk is my AGM. I brought in Sam St. Laurent as my goalie coach. Had a lot of trouble finding Technique-based assistants. I ended up with a few Conditioning-based ones instead. I also grabbed what I could for good scouts.
I cleaned house in Worcester. I brought in Jesse Wallin as HC. I brought in Pang as my goalie coach and a good mix of assistants.

I had Pearson in the last challenge and he was very good. He was my #2 LW for quite a while.stone169 wrote:Here are my trades...

I had Lindbohm and Greenway in the last challenge. Lindbohm was a decent bottom pairing defenseman. Greenway never developed into anything.
Looks like we went after some of the same Habs. As a Bruins fan, I almost feel dirty for doing so.

I really need two of Buch, Goldobin, Fiala, Marner or Björkstrand to step up. If they don't then i will just bring Tarasov up to plug a hole and let the youngsters develop in juniors/AHL.

I don't know if anything has changed in this version of the DB but Marner never seemed to develop into anything in the last challenge.
